I suspect that you need to engage them more quickly. Can you advise on what to do about this?
Your assumption is correct. Only the zealots are placed in the corner for the battle, and the rest are single units, so as not to destroy the entire army. Also, due to the small army size, the dragons will be divided into several relatively small stacks, rather than standing in two groups of 250 units each. You can sacrifice 4-5 adepts for the "punishing strike" spell on the zealots. I don't remember very well right now, but I think you could equip a piece of Necropolis gear on the hero: the dragon won't be able to attack on the first turn. Then, cast "vampirism," and all the dragons will be eliminated, practically without any losses. And as a general suggestion: it's better to practice on easier difficulties. If it doesn't work on "hero," you can also try on "recruit." The main thing is to get it right.
Thanks for the idea! I also thought that maybe the hero's stats are not optimally distributed. There's no readiness in defense, and in attack, it's unclear why fire arrows were chosen (at one level, there was a choice between navigation and fire arrows, lol). Without Logistics and Darkness, it will be difficult here; luck is present at the start. There are still two skills left; defense seems more useful than attack; maybe try Leadership (with Empathy)?
I was also thinking that the hero might be leveled up in a suboptimal way.
In attack, you definitely need to get “Magic of Speed,” and the sooner, the better. “Fire Arrows” is the most useless perk from this branch for Varens. Everything else is chosen depending on the skills taken. In “defense,” tactics or archery are good. If there is leadership, then “Retribution” is preferable. It’s not necessary to put points into “Readiness” for this hero at all. For Varens, the best defense is offense. The more attacks his troops inflict, the greater the chance of stunning the enemy. This means they shouldn't stand still. From the defense branch, it is more important to have Initiative (especially with “Tactics”) or at least “Stone Skin.” I like to take Leadership - "Empathy" rather than Defense for Varens. You can see what happens (my replays from the Unicorn Empire campaign, but the hero leveling is the same)
Great map, I can't wait to start playing the Unicorn Empire campaign. I especially liked the armies in the garrisons and the legions of undead, and of course, the abundance of phoenixes. The recommended mod was very helpful, as I essentially completed the scenario only thanks to it.

Hello everyone! I decided to try out a map, and when I reached Horncrest, I encountered a problem: Lorenzo "refuses to attack" Horncrest. When I hover the cursor over it, it turns into a red crossed-out circle (like when hovering over a rock – indicating there's no path), but when I right-click, it shows the troops in the city. Moreover, there are two enemy knights in front of the castle – Laszlo (I've already beaten him before – he ran away) and Iris. I can't attack either of them – the same thing happens as with the castle. Help...
There is no need to besiege the castle in the usual way. The task requires you to gather 200 archers and purchase a catapult at the war machine workshop near the road. After fulfilling these conditions, the castle will be unlocked.
Yeah, the AI where 60 archers kill 1 peasant is ridiculous; you won't get such an easy win with mods – it's impossible to pass even on veteran difficulty.
My question is, why is it necessary to attack Lorenzo's Castle? I took Adrian with a ballista, and it became much easier, but when I approached the castle, I couldn't attack.
Added 4 minutes later I sent archers to him – it worked!)
Added 31 minutes later "Further on, there are sacred halls where foreigners are forbidden to pass." This message now appears every turn for the blue player.
Yeah, the AI where 60 archers kill 1 peasant is ridiculous; you won't find such an easy game with mods – you can't even beat it on Veteran difficulty.
This is standard AI behavior on Hero difficulty. On Veteran, they don't target single units but rather the archers. Mods don't solve this problem. Unless, of course, it's Eternal Essence (which I haven't tested).
"Beyond this point lie the clan halls, and entry is forbidden to foreigners." This message now appears every turn for the blue player.
The turquoise player couldn't get there; most likely, a script error occurred, and it's been happening for quite some time. Are you sure you're playing version 3.1?
The turquoise color definitely couldn't appear there; most likely, a script error occurred, and it happened quite a while ago. Are you sure you're playing version 3.1?
YES, it's the 3.1 Gold Edition. Could it be that I don't have the latest version of the map? How can I check that? The map was installed as part of the EWA mod.
