Tournament
"Новичок-2015. Winter"

Greetings to all fans of Heroes of Might and Magic 3, future participants, and supporters of the traditional "Новичок" tournament. I hope the new season will once again please us with great games and new discovery players.
Trolls registered between 2011 - 2013, please do not flood; otherwise, penalty points for flooding will find their heroes.
This is our traditional twelfth tournament for Новичок.
We have no exact or strict definition of who a "новичок" is. This tournament is for those
- who only recently realized that you can play the beloved old game Heroes over the internet,
- who only recently found out that they aren't the only ones who can easily beat computers and that it's not so simple with a real person,
- who recently started playing with more than one or two heroes and building chains...

We are not inviting fathers and grandfathers, we do not want to see clones, and besides, would a medal obtained in such a dubious way have any value for a strong player?

The main goal of the tournament is to get to know each other and gain experience in communication and gameplay.

Winners of past tournaments:

"Новичок-2014. Summer" - Falcone
"Новичок-2014. Winter" - Aiwe
"Новичок-2013. Summer" - The_
"Новичок-2013. Winter" - высокий
"Новичок-2012. Summer" - twaryna
"Новичок-2012. Winter" - 7z
"Новичок-2011. Summer" - Sky Pioneer
"Новичок-2011. Winter" - Sevensan
"Новичок-2010. Summer" - тенью бездомной
"Новичок-2010. Winter" - Сатир
"Новичок-2009. Summer" - Erdem
Participant Requirements.

1. Players registered on our forum or another gaming resource between 01.01.2014 and 01.01.2015 are eligible to participate in the tournament; applications from players with an earlier registration date will be considered individually.

2. Players who have longer playing experience will not be admitted to the tournament.
3. Players who are already strong enough and have shown decent results in any tournament are not eligible to participate.
4. A tournament participant must play several games in the season or write at least 5 detailed reports in "phantom" according to HeroesWorld rules (games can be played after registration). This is necessary to ensure that you are technically able to play online and have an understanding of the Forum rules.
5. Players wishing to participate in the tournament undertake to provide any additional information requested by the tournament judges.
6. The organizers reserve the right to refuse registration to anyone if they believe there are valid reasons, without a public explanation of those reasons.

Leave applications in this thread. There is a Detailed instruction with pictures FAQ17 on the forum explaining how to do this.
The following steps are required:
1. Check if an ICQ number is entered in your profile; add it if it is missing.
If it is in your profile, a small green daisy — the ICQ symbol — will be visible under the avatar. If not, follow the algorithm.
2. Leave an application in this thread. To do this, click the Sign up for tournament button located at the beginning of this thread and at the top of each page.
3. In the application, specify a convenient time (days and hours) for playing and your time zone.
4. 2-3 days before the draw, you must contact the lead Iamsamstan (IСQ 435-191-039) and confirm participation. Players who disappear from the forum (lack of user activity for a week) will not be admitted to the draw.
Organizational Matters.

1. Leads - Iamsamstan (IСQ 435-191-039), злой_романтик (ICQ 296-524-052), Judges - WiZarDX_576(ICQ 608941846), in the absolute same extreme case, contact Pit for LM (ICQ 471401475).
2. The tournament is conducted according to the Rules of organization, conduct and participation in HOMM3 online tournaments.
3. Organizers will make changes to the rules and regulations during the tournament if necessary.
4. For each played game, participants must submit a detailed report and detailed confirmation in this thread. Only then is the game counted. All tournament reports must be written using the automatic report writing system: Detailed instruction with pictures FAQ18.
- To create a report, click the New report button located at the top of each page of the thread and fill in all necessary fields according to the template. After that, write your detailed comments on the game.
- To confirm a report, the second player must find the game report, click the Confirm report button and also write a detailed report.
- It is considered good tone to thank the opponent for the game.
5. All tournament games go into the HoMM3 HW player rating.
6. Technical results are assigned for games not played within the established timeframe.
7. Saves and password files for all games must be kept until the end of the tournament and presented upon first request by the leads, tournament judges, or any member of the AC. Forgetting or losing a game password may serve as grounds for assigning a technical defeat in the game.
8. Disputable points, if any arise, are requested to be discussed off-forum. To resolve them, you must contact the lead or tournament judge via ICQ and provide daily saves, ICQ logs, and other necessary information.
The same judicial decision is made primarily based on the tournament rules. If a situation is not regulated by the rules, judges are guided by basic logic and gaming ethics.
9. The tournament winner will be awarded a "Tournament Winner 'Новичок'" medal under their avatar:
/attachments/29412/>

Regulations.

Stage 1. 36 participants are divided into 6 groups of 6 people. A round-robin tournament is held in each group, where everyone plays everyone else once. 1 point is given for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, and zero for a loss. The 2 people with the best results and 4 players who took 3rd place with the best indicators advance from the group to the next stage. Result criteria by order of importance: 1) points earned, 2) Berger coefficient, 3) result of head-to-head meeting. If these criteria are insufficient, a system of tie-breaker games will be offered to the players. If that also does not help, democratic judicial discretion will be applied. All games in the group stage are played on template 2sm4d(3)
Stage 2. Tournament of novices against veterans. NP vs LM. Each play-off participant has the right to choose one person from the LM team; the composition of this team is currently being formed.
Stage 3. Play-off. Starts April 27, 2015. Conducted via an Olympic system with elimination after the second lost match. Each match in the upper bracket is played to two wins, and in the lower bracket to one win. Time limit for 1 game - 1 week. (The loser in the upper bracket moves to the lower bracket and continues playing there. The loser in the lower bracket is eliminated from the competition.)
Templates in the first game are chosen by the player marked in blue, who also chooses castles first. In the second game, you switch places. For the third game, you may toss a coin or contact the organizer for this.
Dates.
Registration - January 29, 2015 - March 01, 2015.
Approval of participant list - March 01-02, 2015.
Group stage draw and start of tournament - March 03, 2015.
Time limit for one game - 10 days.

Rules.

1. Game version. The tournament is conducted on game version SoD 3.2(4.0) + HD mod + by mutual agreement
HW_rulez (For correct operation, the patch must be installed for both players.), and by mutual agreement WT.
2. The tournament is conducted according to the rules of online games in Heroes 3.
3. Restarts total 3 days ( 111+111+111 or 111+112 or 113)
4. In the final part of the tournament, template selection is done by drawing from a list of 5 templates: 2sm4d3, jebus Cross, Panic, 8mm6a, mini nostalgia.

After the percentage of games based on templates is published, and it becomes clear that the game from 2014 is unlikely to even make it into the top ten, then you can bring up this topic. Although, it shouldn't be removed from the list of templates. There will still be old-school fans... or simply as an alternative.

After publishing the statistics on game templates, and considering that the CMK (presumably a game template) is unlikely to even make the top ten for 2014, then it would be appropriate to raise this topic. However, it shouldn't be removed from the list of templates. There will still be old-school players... or simply as an alternative...
Facepalm...:smile04: What are we even talking about? What percentages? Let's force beginners to play 8mm or Mini Nostu – they are more popular than CMK according to statistics. This tournament is for those who are JUST STARTING to play online, and for them, CMK is the simplest template.
P.S. – if any of the beginners think they are already experienced and ready to play complex templates, then what are they doing in this tournament? They should withdraw while they still can.

How do these arguments relate to the 5 templates in the playoffs, where there are both 8mm6a and mini-Nostu? Like, after 4-5 games in the group stage, beginners will suddenly be ready to play the other templates?:smile04:

This relates to the fact that the most prepared newcomers will emerge from the group, and I don't want to and won't put less experienced players in an unequal position due to their lack of knowledge of the template. Seriously, just imagine a game where someone who has only played online 10 times in their life is playing on the 8mm template. How long will that game last? And there are only 10 days for the tournament...
P.S. - I'd appreciate it if any further off-topic discussions were moved to the tribune so as not to clutter up the thread.

It will clearly be easier for a beginner to play Minotaur than to play Stronghold. In Minotaur, it is clearly understood how to get to the opponent, and without control, there is only one possibility.
In Stronghold, there are a ton of these possibilities, the guards are more difficult, and the game is more boring.

They will be playing for six months, and some 6LM tournaments even last a year. No, the rules were announced a long time ago, so let's stick to SMK for now.

The simplest, and also almost the most popular template at the moment is Jebus. You don't even need to know the scheme, and it can be played up to a maximum of 137 (well, 1 out of 50 might take longer), unlike CM, for which 22x or 23x timings are considered quite normal.
Just saying, for future newbies.

Just something for future newbies to keep in mind.
Of course, Jebus :D. All our newbies know how to take level 7 lairs, how to properly place chains, and how to go to the center like level 117 or at most level 121 players... I've read several reports from newbies on Jebus – they reach level 13+, then run around, and somewhere around level 22+ they get to the Fortress. It seems like it just doesn't sink in that there are many people playing here with 5-10 years of online experience.
I wonder if it's possible to organize at least one tournament without any "dad" advice on how to improve the rules? :D

Just my IMHO, SMKA is an uninteresting, unbalanced template, and I'm not the only beginner who thinks so... It would be nice to be able to choose from 2-3 simple templates by mutual agreement. Personally, I learned to play straight away on 8-player, Jebus Cross, and I've only played SMKA online twice. I believe it's time to debunk the myth that SMKA is the best template for beginners.

I suggest organizing a tournament with Only SM, instead of making it difficult for newcomers. :) Newcomers are learning how to play now by watching streams. When was the last time someone streamed games on CM? :)

If the Jebus template is used, it will be a tournament of losses and whining about the terrible balance.

I started playing in June, before the newbie summer of '14, and played almost exclusively on the SMK for the entire months of June and July. I managed to get somewhat familiar with online play. My first games on Jebus in July were terrible, even though I had watched a lot of streams and replays. In general, it took me about 4 months of playing before I was ready to play properly on any of the 5 newbie templates. I completely agree with Romantica on this issue. Even in this thread, in some reports, it doesn't even come to a full-blown battle; on Jebus, people can spend 2 weeks on respawn and lose on GO, wasting 10+ hours on the game, and on HL, they can spend 2 months looking for each other.
However, adding Panic and Balance, for example, is perfectly feasible.
