Elves and pegasuses are quickly eliminated, so you have to take flyers and archers from other towns. Also, it's unclear why many suggest protecting elves.
:D :D Besides ramp castle, there can be ramp dungeon, ramp phoenix, ramp swamp, ramp necropolis, ramp barbarian, and even ramp inferno (I played against Sam once). I don't see any reason to rule out ramp if the opponent gives you the opportunity to choose a decent castle. In my opinion, the most difficult thing is to play ramp against dungeon. Because in this case, it can be difficult to rush, so you are limited in your choice of tactics. That is, if your treasury contents are worse, there is a high chance of losing.
Yesterday, I played against a player I respect, who unfortunately left the forum. It was his red Rampart against my Dungeon. Once again, I was convinced that the Rampart's weakness lies in its strength: the elves. They are really weak, and the strategy of using mass slow and Expert Shot is often focused on them. I think one of the reasons he offered me a draw was because of the significant loss of his elves, which made clearing the treasure and gaining an advantage against my ogres less effective (I got lucky: even though Lorelei arrived on the first day and Shakti had two stacks, Tamika arrived with one skeleton on the first day, and I managed to develop her to around 50 by the end of the game. I can imagine what Gosha can do starting as Necropolis on the second week if even I, with just one starting unit, developed so well:). The elves definitely can't rush him:smile27:).

Yesterday, I played against a player I respect, who unfortunately left the forum: his Red Rampart against my Dungeon. Once again, I was convinced that Rampart's weakness lies in its strength: the Elves. They are really weak, while the strategy of using Mass Slow and Expert Marksman is usually focused on them. I think one of the reasons he offered me a draw was the significant loss of these Elves, which also made clearing the treasure more difficult and reduced the advantage against my stompers (I got lucky: Lorelei arrived on the first week, and Shaktie had 2 stacks - Tamika arrived with 1 skeleton, and I managed to develop her to about 500 by the end of the game; I can imagine what Gosha can do with a starting Necropolis on the second week, if even I, with my first skeleton, developed so well:). The Elves definitely can't rush him:smile27: ).
500 skeletons are certainly strong, :D but this only happens with a favorable setup (many small monsters and few ranged units), and even then, it's usually closer to the end of the month when an explosion of 1500-2000 is quite possible, and even 50 ducks aren't that strong. Also, Necropolis is in serious trouble without a large number of conveniently located small monsters, and if they have access to them on the second week, I'm 80-90% sure they're doomed when rushed. Their early-level troops are easily defeated by the corresponding Rampart units, and an extra 100-150 skeletons might not even help. And how much more delicious loot Kirra can gather if she's allowed to develop is even scarier to imagine; 500 skeletons will simply be laughable against that. And Rampart's strength is not always in the Elves; it's not worth making the main bet on them, IMHO. So, overall, Rampart is a very strong Castle, I wouldn't say it's definitely the strongest, but it's very, very serious in experienced hands. P.S. Have you played against Loy? ;)
I wonder where the idea that Rampart is a weak faction comes from?
The only thing you could criticize is the complex process of building dragons and upgrading them. It's quite difficult to find crystals for pegasi and wood for upgrading elves. But overall, it's a very pleasant and comfortable faction to play, which makes it a favorite among many beginners (as well as Castle). The gameplay is very simple, with a decent starting offensive power and a good starting hero. What more could you ask for?
No one said that Rampart is weak; it’s just that it’s usually considered to be around the 5th or 6th strongest faction. Rampart is quite strong if there’s an opportunity for a rush. If you’re playing against Sylvan or Dungeon, it’s more difficult to execute a rush. At the same time, I, for example, believe that the red Rampart is the most difficult opponent for Necropolis, and that’s precisely why. And the advantage in turn order doesn’t immediately make a difference (when playing as Kirra); if you know the map, then, of course, Logistics is effective. But on an unknown map, a lot will depend on whether you guess correctly or not. Plus, Marksmanship isn’t the best skill (unless you’re rushing).
He's usually considered to be around 5th or 6th in terms of strength.
That's a strange position: confused: Oelm
And the advantage in move range doesn't immediately make a difference (when playing as Kirra). If you know the map, then of course, Logistics is effective. But in an unknown area, a lot will depend on whether you guess correctly or not.
I disagree. Having Logistics as a starting skill is also a plus and makes a difference from day one. Oelm
+ not the best skill, Archery (if there's no rush).
Again, I disagree. Without Archery, Rampart isn't really Rampart. Elves aren't that strong anymore! Otherwise, everyone would play as Mephala if Archery wasn't needed.
I disagree again. Without ranged attacks, a Rampart isn't really a Rampart. Elves aren't that strong anymore! Otherwise, everyone would play as Mephala if ranged attacks weren't necessary.
In my opinion, Kiir is chosen mainly because of his logistics, not because of his ranged attacks. Mephala isn't chosen because of a lack of logistics, not because of a lack of ranged attacks, I think. For example, if I'm given Gunnar when playing as Rampart, I'll gladly use him, especially if he gets a good starting skill. I don't see anything wrong with the lack of accuracy.
Derty, you're nitpicking. The starting log certainly plays a role, but if the opponent also has a hero with a log, or if their hero gets a log right away, there won't be much of a difference at the beginning of the game. We were talking about the logistical bonus. By the second week, the lack of explored territory usually starts to have an impact, and you often have to go blindly, sometimes even without any speed boosts. But with Castle, the scouting is more active thanks to the stables, so the moves can be more accurate.
In terms of strength, I think that on the standard map, the blue Rampart is weaker than the red Necropolis, Fortress, Dungeon, Swamp, and Castle. Weaker doesn't mean it has no chance. The setup and the player's skill can easily compensate for the difference. For example, if Kirra has stables and boots, then the increased number of moves will more than compensate for the lack of scouting.
Shooting is certainly useful at the start. But, as I wrote, if it's the third week and a rush is happening, then this shooting sometimes becomes useless. Some kind of implosion spell (you wouldn't cast antimagic on elves), or a powerful meteor, and that's it. But Gunnar's tactics will never be useless.
By the way, Mephala is also an alternative, as is Yvory (mainly because of the starting army):D
I formed my opinion mainly from single-player games, since I don't play Rampart much online.
Dirty, you're nitpicking about words. Logistics from the start, of course, plays a role, but if the opponent also has a hero with logistics, or if dad got logistics right away, then there won't be much difference at the start of the game. The discussion was about the logistics bonus. By the second week, the lack of explored territory usually becomes apparent,
Starting logistics is only Pira (Deesa, Gunnar, and Monere are not starting), and other heroes not only need to get it but also level it up to expert. Oelm
and you often have to go blindly + sometimes even end up without a speed boost. And with Castle, exploration goes more actively thanks to stables, so the moves can be more precise.
One could also argue about "going blindly". Solid knowledge and understanding of the template can make choosing the path easier. Vicc described this well in his article. Oelm
Archery is certainly useful from the start. But as I wrote, if there's no rush, and the third week rolls in, then this archery sometimes becomes useless.
When the third week comes, you should have achieved something by that time. Archery is precisely the skill that will allow you to clear a respawn faster in the second week and take those cons earlier. Archery increases damage by one and a half times, which is more noticeable with two shots from elves. If elves take down 20 griffins in two hits, then with archery it's already 30. Critical? Oelm
By the way, Mephala is also an alternative, like Ivor (mainly because of the starting army):D
Mephala and Ivor are very interesting options that undoubtedly deserve attention. Oelm
I formed my opinion mainly from single-player, because I play few games as Rampart online.
Me too! But nothing's stopping us from discussing. Let the "fathers with years of online experience" appear and correct us. :D
I'm not talking about knowing the map layout. Moreover, it's simpler than in Heroes of Might and Magic VI. I'm talking about when you enter a dungeon on the second day and don't know where to go because the hero has traveled far, and you haven't scouted the area yet. That's when moves are often wasted inefficiently. But a hero with the Logistics skill is available on the first day in 50% of cases, or with Earth Magic if not.:)
Strength lies in speed, in my opinion, because ramp speed isn't as crucial as it is for other castles, and it's easier to equip smaller castles with fast units (in this regard, only Conflux with two units with a speed of 7 is better). The most likely units (level 1-2) in other castles with speed are mostly still less than 6. Ivor is preferable to Kirra in the first week in combat, but in the long run, Kirra, of course, is the best. By 200%, which almost no one plays anymore, Enova is interesting as a starting hero. Mephala is a candidate for a "mom," a good hero, and her specialization is important for both wyverns and angels. When one of these four heroes is the starting hero, two are in the tavern, with a hidden stash of centaurs near the castle and elves a little further away, flowers bloom, and life becomes beautiful, like a girl's smile in spring. In general, if logistics or other mega-warriors aren't taken immediately, the choice of the main hero is now largely based on the presence and development of two skills: logistics and earth. This is the trend of recent times.
Well, generally, the Swamp will be faster, and the Dungeon also has good chances for upgrading harpies.
The choice of the main faction is now largely based on the presence and promotion of two skills: Logistics and Earth.
Regardless of whether there is a mega warrior, a hero with Logistics and Earth gets priority – it’s more effective. At least for some time.
The idea with movement points isn’t that obvious, so I don’t feel like explaining it in detail. For example: You run into a Treasure map on day 122 with 5 Angels. The hero with Logistics has a lot of movement points, but no Scouting yet. It’s not a given that you’ll spend the movement points very effectively, meaning that out of, say, 4000, a third will be spent on scouting, and the rest on clearing. At the same time, a hero with Scouting can come out a day later, but the territory will already be explored. That is, he will spend his, say, 2000 movement points on battles. The reasoning is somewhat conditional. But I myself have noticed this in the game more than once. And if Kirre also has to carry slow units, then there are even more losses.
1) so that there is always a chance for a 1-6 in the Castle, Rampart has only 1 day to build an additional dwelling. There are 3 more or less options 1) building Elves 2) upgrading Centaurs 3) Mage Guild ......
Well, I experimented with option #2. About a month after that post, I managed to play as Rampart 3 times. All 3 times on 111 I upgraded Centaurs and scattered with Lošaks on Captains. In two games there were 1 or 2 external dwellings of Centaurs, in one there was an external dwelling of Elves, and in all 3 there were external dwellings of Unicorns. In all three games, besides upgrading 111 Centaurs, Horses were built in the Castle on 117. In all three games, the external dwelling of Unicorns was taken, with buying them out. In the first two games there was approximately 11,000 gold and 15,000 gold respectively for the buyout by 121. In the last game there was little money, even had to trade on 2 markets to build the Castle... but there I also had to build and upgrade Serpents in the Swamp secondary hero to break through LotS's Grand Elves guarding the external dwelling of Horses, and also break the external dwelling itself with acceptable losses (3 Serpents and 1 Dendroid). As for the army's combat effectiveness - there were actually 2 decent stacks. I started all 3 times as Ivor (Kyr never came as a second)... Elves were from 3 to 6 on 111, and 10-13 from 112. Centaur Captains were from almost 35 to 60+ (with the external dwelling). They fought steadfastly. Crypts - not a problem. In the Dwarf dwellings, it's better to go with up to 20 in a stack on 115 with 3 Dendroids and 2 Horses. With the same army, you can take the minimal Griffin Conservatory on 115. On 121, if possible to upgrade the Elves and buy out all the Horses with the Centaurs... you could take Conservatories 2 and 3... if there was an external dwelling of Horses or Elves from the first week, then you could also take the max Griffin Conservatory, but sometimes you have to deal with the upgraded stack problem... and sometimes there are already Silver Pegasi and Earth Magic is already Expert, and then on the second week everything is broken except for Titans (if enough Angels and Titans are not spawned).
One can also argue about "going in blindly." A good understanding of the pattern can make choosing a path easier. Wick described this well in his article.
