The show tournament by twaryna is still ongoing, and it's already clear that the version has turned out to be quite playable. Some minor edits are still possible, but overall, the gameplay will not change in the foreseeable future.

Therefore, we are starting an open HotA tournament.

Game information and download links are here - http://vk.com/h3hota.

Game version: HotA 1.3.8 + HDmode.

Template: chosen by lot from Jebus, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6lm10a.

Castles: all games are played in the Wharf vs Wharf format; one player chooses the color, and the other player chooses the starting hero first.

Timer - standard for ХВ rules, but battle time is 2 minutes (with unfamiliar troops, more thinking is required during combat).
Jebus - 24+8:30+2
Diamond - 19+8+2
Mini-Nostalgia - 19+8+2
8mm6a - 21+8+2
6lm10a - 21+8+2

Roads - fast for Jebus and medium for other templates.

Restarts - 3 days in total (+objective restarts due to blocks, bugs, or encounters).

Red-rush is allowed.

Other rules correspond to the HotA show tournament rules

Tournament format - Swiss system with elimination after 2 losses. Each round is played as a best-of-one (bo1). Time per round - 3 weeks.

Rules may be clarified later, as some nuances might have been missed the first time. In case of a disputed or doubtful situation, it is recommended to contact the judge immediately. That is, do not abuse discovered bugs.

Players have the right to agree on any changes in the rules except for the game version.

Each participant must pass qualification - play at least one full online game in HotA. This is to ensure that you have installed the software correctly and understand the game rules. Players who participated in the show tournament or have game reports for HotA in the season are exempt from qualification.

Register here, specifying ICQ/Skype. Start as soon as a quorum is reached.

UPDATE

Regarding the tournament start dates - 3 weeks are given for registration and qualification, meaning the draw for the 1st round will be on 24.04.2015

Players may independently agree on tournament games ahead of the bracket. For this, players must have an equal number of wins/losses. The fact of agreement should be reported to me before the start of the game via a forum post or ICQ message. Independent games that were not reported before the draw of the corresponding round are considered null and void.

Anyone who wants to start already can find an opponent for the 1st round themselves and play against them. Early games may be counted as qualification if bo3 (best-of-3) is played.

Final:

Maretti vs YaR

To win the tournament, Maretti only needs to win once, while YaR must win twice.

UPDATE

Since the starting confusion has ended, we will play more orderly from the 2nd round onwards.

1) Players who do not meet the round deadline (regardless of whose fault), will play in the next round with a debuff - their opponent may choose both the color and the hero.

Exceptions are possible at the discretion of the organizer. For example, if players reported difficulties in advance (within one week from the start of the round).

Therefore, I recommend not waiting until the last day, but agreeing and starting to play immediately.

2) Private messages from the organizer should be answered within 3 days. The same applies to public messages with any requests. Lack of reaction is interpreted against the player.

For example, if in response to a private message "How is the round 2 game going?", one of the players replied (regardless of what), and the second remained silent, then in the absence of a result, a technical victory will be awarded to the first.

3) If a player withdraws from the tournament or is disqualified, their slot is passed in order of queue to players who have already been eliminated from the tournament. Priority is given to those who progressed further, and if they reached the same distance - to whoever played earlier.

Therefore, I recommend agreeing and playing subsequent rounds before their official start.

YaR
and the cyclops shot them all down.
thanks for the game.
The main mistake was, having a basic earth faction, to refuse to use air units. I couldn't find a slow spell anywhere, and without mass haste, there was nothing to do in the front battle, as the opponent completely blocked me with 30 cyclops.
Thanks for the game.

This was an amazing game!!!
A couple of times during the game, I thought all was lost.

We started the game on the first day of the second round, and we saved the game 4 times.

Briefly about the game:
In the second week, I took the Dock from the AI and made this city my main one. In the third week, I took the Dock town. On the starting territory and in the surrounding areas, there were many Workshops (Giants) and Outposts (Cyclops), and I scouted a total of 1 Utopia in the first month. In the third week, I killed another AI (Inferno). On the starting territories, there were 2 bird nests and one Pirate and Nix town each. I built all 3 cities.

Towards the end of the first month of the game, or at the beginning of the second month, the opponent had stats that were an order of magnitude higher, and it was clear from his finances that he had taken more than one Utopia. I took my "level 3" hero and received the Book of Fire Magic and the Titan Armor. Near the Utopia, I took the Sphere of Fire. The damage from Armageddon was 1850. I see that the opponent is attacking me with 5-9 Angels, Vivs, and Cyclops (I might be slightly mistaken), so I bought everything I could and, most importantly, took a stack of Nix with a total HP greater than the damage of Armageddon.
Cassia attacked, Implosion removed about 60 Sea Wolves (the entire stack) from me, and I used my turn to cast Armageddon (there were no other options), and in the end, only one Nix survived. I received the Sword of Justice and the Lion Shield, and many other things, but most importantly, I received a scroll of Death Ripple. My stats after this were approximately 25-20-25-25.

The opponent did not give up and said that we would continue playing. I relaxed a little, took some AI towns, took the opponent's starting Dock (without a fight), and gave the Titan Armor to Solmyr. The armies and artifacts were enough for 4 heroes who could defeat the AI and gradually put pressure on the opponent.
Approximately on day 222, I brought three of my strongest heroes to the city where Desser (the opponent's next main hero) was located. I was very concerned that his income was higher than mine, and I assumed that he had a Grail in this city (Stronghold).
The stats in the guild showed Desser with 30-12-12-12.

I decided to attack with Solmyr to thin out the opponent's army with Chain Lightning.
To my dismay, he had a Grail, and Desser's attack was 50 , and he also had a Cloak of Invisibility. Desser's army consisted of 10 bears, a lot of ogres and wolves, 25 Cyclops Kings, I don't remember how many birds, but there were enough.
I removed two bears with Ice Bolt, he slowed me down, I realized that something was wrong and ran away.
But it turns out that I did not correctly understand the concept of Hit-and-Run, and we reloaded the battle, and as a result, Solmyr died.

Jeremy panicked, I felt that I could not defeat him in the city, and I could not continue (I was just tired of this game).
After a week's break, we continued, Jeremy gave the Book of Fire and the Sphere to another hero, who ran to the Inferno for Efreet. Jeremy himself hid behind a hill and, literally in the next turn, with the help of Death Ripple, captured the opponent's castle.
Desser, with his entire army, fled in an unknown direction.
I ran to take the Conflux from the AI.
And approximately on day 2-4-2, I noticed that Desser was hanging around in Treasure and that only a couple of Death Ripples separated me from him. I bought 3 Phoenixes, 12 Aspid, 100 Acid and Sea Wolves each, 5 Angels, 9 Giants, and 30 Enchantresses.
I attacked the opponent, according to him, unexpectedly; I have tactics, and he doesn't. He cast Haste on the first turn, Angels remove the threat from 10 bears, then Aspids and Acids eliminate the bears. As a result, the opponent buys himself out with 16 Thunderbirds and 82 Ogres, my losses are 5 Angels, 3 Aspids, 2 Phoenixes, and 50 Sea Wolves.
But the opponent still did not give up and decided to play to the end.

With the help of amulets and skillful play, he killed a couple of weaklings with mini-armies and captured 3 of my cities, and also took one AI town.
I, with Efreet and Armageddon, killed the last AI and brought Jeremy to a strategically important position, where the enemy's chains were built and constantly threatened my peripheral cities.
The opponent dug up Cassia in the tavern and somehow lost Desser.
I realized that he could not find control and, in the end, on day 3-1-7, I attacked with my main hero on Cassia in the Stronghold (without a Grail).
My army:
13 Aspids, 130 Acids, 50 Wolves, 9 Giants, 40 Nix, 1 Phoenix, 40 Enchantresses.
The opponent had:
82 Ogres, several Thunderbirds, and a stack of Goblins.
My stats: 27-23-25-25 (plus or minus)
Cassia's stats: 41-17-25-15 (plus or minus)

The forces are not equal, the opponent is defeated.
During the entire game, I took only 2 or 3 artifacts (there were only 6 Angels in total) and 1 Utopia.
Everything was decided by that Armageddon and the Death Ripple obtained with its help.
The opponent played better, but the lack of Teleportation, Death Ripple, or Flight did not allow him to fully apply his skills.

Now that was a game!!!
A couple of times during the game I thought all was lost.

We started the game on the first day of the second round's start, saved 4 times.

Briefly about the game itself:
On the second week I took the Cove from the computer and made this town my main. On the third week I captured the Cove village. On the respawn and nearby territories there were many Gears (Giants) and Blockades (Cyclopes), in total I scouted 1 Dragon Utopia in the first month. On the third week I also killed another computer (Inferno). On the respawns there were 2 external dwellings of birds and one each of Pirates and Nix. I built up all 3 towns.

By the end of the first month of the game or the beginning of the second month, the opponent was an order of magnitude stronger in stats, and it was clear from the finances that he had taken not just one Dragon Utopia. I took my "third" and got the Book of Fire Magic and the Titan's Cuirass. Near the Dragon Utopia I picked up the Sphere of Fire. Armageddon damage1850. I see the opponent is coming at me with 5-9 Angels, Wyverns and Cyclopes (I might be slightly mistaken), I took everything I could buy and most importantly took a stack of Nix with total HP greater than the Armageddon damage.
Cassia attacked, Implosion killed about 60 of my Sea Wolves (the entire stack), and on my turn I cast Armageddon (there were no other options), and in the end only one Nix survived. I got the Sword of Justice and the Lion's Shield and many other things, but most importantly I got a Dimension Door scroll. My stats after this were roughly 25-20-25-25.

The opponent didn't surrender and said we should keep playing. I relaxed a bit, squeezed the computers a little, took the opponent's starting Cove (without a fight), gave the Titan's Cuirass to Solmyr. Army and artifacts were enough for 4 heroes, who could defeat the computer and gradually pressure the opponent.
Around day 222 I brought three of my strongest heroes to the town where Dessa was holed up (the opponent's next main hero). I was very bothered that his income was higher than mine, and I assumed he had the Grail in that town (Stronghold).
The guild stats showed Dessa at 30-12-12-12.

I decided to attack with Solmyr to thin out the opponent's army with Chain Lightning.
To my dismay, the Grail was there and Dessa's attack was 50  , plus he had the Cape of Submission. Dessa's army - 10 Behemoths, a bunch of Ogres and Wolves, 25 Cyclops Kings, I don't remember how many birds, but enough.
I took down two Behemoths with Lightning Bolt, he slowed me, I realized things were heating up and fled.
But it turns out I had the wrong understanding of Hit-Run and we reloaded the fight, and in the end Solmyr died.

Jeremy filled his pants, I felt there was no way I could knock him out of his Town and couldn't continue (I was just tired of this match).
After a week's break we continued, Jeremy gave the Book of Fire and the Sphere to another hero, who ran off to get Efreeti in Inferno. Jeremy himself hid behind a hill and literally a turn later used Dimension Door to capture the opponent's Castle.
Dessa with his entire army fled in an unknown direction.
I ran to take Conflux from the computer.
And around day 2-4-2 I noticed that Dessa was loitering in the Treasure Zone and only a couple of Dimension Doors separated me from him. I bought 3 Phoenixes, 12 Azure Dragons, about a hundred each of Magma Dragons and Sea Wolves, 5 Angels, 9 Giants and 30 Enchanters.
I attacked the opponent, in his words, suddenly; I had tactics, he didn't. Sped up on the first turn, the Angels remove the retaliation from 10 Behemoths, then the Azure and Magma Dragons nullify the Behemoths. In the end, the opponent bought peace with 16 Thunderbirds and 82 Ogre Magi, my losses were 5 Angels, 3 Azure Dragons, 2 Phoenixes and 50 Sea Wolves.
But even then the opponent didn't surrender and decided to play to the end.

Using the Pendant [of Submission] and skillful play, he killed a couple of weaklings with mini-armies and captured 3 of my towns, and also squeezed one computer.
I, with Efreeti and Armageddon, killed the last computer and Jeremy moved to a strategically important position, where the enemy's troop chains were being built and constantly threatening my peripheral towns.
The opponent dug up Cassia in the tavern and somehow lost Dessa.
As I understood it, he never managed to find control and eventually on day 3-1-7 I attacked the Main Hero against Cassia in the Stronghold (without the Grail).
My army:
13 Azure Dragons, 130 Magma Dragons, 50 Behemoths, 9 Giants, 40 Nix, 1 Phoenix, 40 Enchanters.
The opponent had:
82 Ogre Magi, several Thunderbirds and a stack of Goblin.
My stats: 27-23-25-25 (more or less)
Cassia's stats: 41-17-25-15 (more or less)

The forces were not equal, the opponent perishes.
Throughout the entire game I only took 2 or 3 Griffin Conservatories (6 Angels total) and 1 Dragon Utopia.
Everything was decided by that Armageddon and the Dimension Door obtained from it.
The opponent played better, but the lack of Town Portal, Dimension Door or Fly prevented him from fully applying his skills.
I confirm, everything was going very well indeed, on day 112 I take a tier 2 Griffin Conservatory and fall terribly behind in tempo, on day 124 I take a tier 3 Dragon Utopia, it turned out to be complete trash, I took the risk because by that point Air Magic was already Expert and I had 8 Angels, in the end the fights split the stack in half. At the start of the 3rd week I take another 2 Dragon Utopias for a Sword +5 all stats and complete trash, the right artifacts weren't dropping. Then I notice an interesting scroll behind a crowd of Fanatics, I decide to spend time on it, not in vain, it's a Dimension Door scroll. I jump into another treasure zone for 2 more Dragon Utopias, take the Cape [of Submission] and the Sphere of Earth +50% [damage reduction], everything seems fine, one thing though, the opponent has 3 or 4 Coves, and accordingly his growth is enormous, the stats are lagging though, but still. I remember Fireball on the start of the 2nd month, the opponent had a 2 or even more times advantage in army despite my Wyverns Cyclopes and Angels, I intuitively wanted to cast Anti-Magic on an Angel, seeing his 25+ spell power, but bloodlust got the better of me, I blew up the Pirates, there were a lot of them, as I recall close to a hundred, not even 60. In response Armageddon, and everyone dies except 1 Nix, this is a specific setup, the artifacts are lost. My 2 computers are both Citadels, I spotted the Grail on the rocks long ago, only one chance, I never thought of surrendering. I captured both Citadels, don't even remember with what, dug up the Grail, by the start of the 3rd week my army is decent, but staying put isn't an option, especially since I see another 2 Dragon Utopias in different ends, I need control. In a week I manage both Dragon Utopias, again trash ones, but the stats gave good [artifacts] like Gladius and Helm +6 all stats. I miraculously recapture [the town] just before the opponent's arrival with the Cape [of Submission], such a chain [of actions] that I couldn't even believe I'd make it in time :) but I did. Then I had to capitulate the town with the Grail because there was no point in sitting there, as the opponent already had 5 Coves I think, my main [hero] was also with him. Dessa wasn't very good without Tactics, I simply abandoned her, when Cassia returned, the plan was relying on Blind and Sand [Spirits], there wasn't enough artillery, and actually not enough meat either, I ran around all the boxes for 2 weeks, unfortunately didn't find control, otherwise I think I would have pulled it off, but without control in the 3rd month, I don't even know what to call it. A very tedious game on my part, in the end I got bored with it myself, decided not to run anymore, the opponent attacked with just a crazy army, killed the catapult with a Lightning Bolt :) and then there was no longer any possibility to fight.
thanks for the game, good luck to the opponent in the further stages of the tournament.

For organizers, Simba sent two messages on the forum: the first one on Thursday asking when I was available to play, and the second one on Sunday apologizing for being extremely busy. I replied to both messages within 15 minutes, but there was no feedback, and he ignored me on AIM. I don't know how much time is left until the end of the tour, so it's better to be cautious.

Wicc, how about this idea for the Eagle Eye buff: allow it to learn non-combat (or even all) spells cast on the open part of the map (or on one level)?
This would be a buff for the useless eye, an indirect buff for low-utility literacy, and a new way of gaining control that doesn't increase the variance of only one player finding control? At the same time, it would slightly weaken control, as it would force players to use it wisely and consider the territory presumed to be opened by the opponent.

My opinion is that no matter how you buff Eagle Eye, it won't help, unless there is a cardinal change in mechanics.

Moreover, any significant buff will constantly balance between being OP and being trash.

For example, the mentioned option would make Eagle Eye a must-have skill for a noob-folder, as it would allow them to gain control simultaneously with the opponent. The strategy would boil down to quickly leveling up such a folder and pulling spells from the opponent instead of trying to obtain them yourself. This would significantly change the gameplay and noticeably weaken the player who fails to quickly dig up a hero with Eagle Eye.

Therefore, it's more logical to simply remove this skill and replace it with another one, with a different name and icon. At the same time, this would remove restrictions on the range of options.

In my opinion, no matter how much you buff the Eagle Eye skill, it won't be useful, unless there's a radical change to its mechanics.

Moreover, a significant buff will always be a balancing act between being overpowered and being useless.

For example, the suggested option would make Eagle Eye a must-have skill for a secondary hero, as it would allow you to gain control at the same time as your opponent. The strategy would then revolve around quickly leveling up such a secondary hero and drawing spells from your opponent instead of trying to acquire them yourself. This would significantly change the gameplay and noticeably weaken the player who fails to quickly find a hero with Eagle Eye.

Therefore, it would be more logical to simply remove this skill and replace it with another one, with a different name and image. This would also remove the limitations on the range of options.

In other words, introducing a new skill would be acceptable for the developers, who are so concerned about preserving the "spirit of the game"?
As for the Ogre Gaze skill, in the worst case, it could be made at least somewhat playable (at least for secondary heroes and on map 200), for example:
- on expert difficulty, the chance to re-learn a spell is 100%
- the re-learned spell can be used in the same battle, and not only after it

The best and truly balanced system was already implemented in the "version that shall not be named." I mean, when a level 7 hero with an eagle automatically gains Air and Earth vision, and in the game master mode, it's impossible to obtain those spells.

Here, I expressed my personal opinion, not the official position of the team. The latter has not yet been formed on this issue.

It would be easier to use a text file that excludes the drop of Eagle Eye and Navigation...

It's easier to just leave only 8 useful skills and make sure they always drop, why bother with anything else?

Forget about skills and special abilities altogether. Just attack and defense. And ban archers! If you don't understand this, you're all noobs! (c) ))))) Some kind of loser in a Redwait trance.

The game will immediately stop being interesting. It is necessary to actually rework the skills in detail, especially the least used ones (which are also the unpopular ones).
Here is an example of some reworked skills:
Learning
Increase the values of acquired hero experience from 5/10/15% to 5/15/25%.
Mysticism
Change mana regeneration values from 2/3/4 to 2/4/6.
Literacy
Allows heroes to exchange spells of level 1 and 2/3/4, as well as copy spell scrolls up to level 2/3/4 into the book.
First Aid
Gives control over the first aid tent to the hero, healing from 1 to 50 for the first unit in the selected group +
Basic level: no additional effects.
Advanced level: casts a basic level Cure spell on the group.
Expert level: casts basic level Cure and Joy spells on the group.

I've seen many arguments regarding the Eagle Eye skill. Indeed, it requires a detailed rework! As an option, the following could be used: add the ability to use a learned spell directly in battle.

Wonderful post. In fact, some of these developments were successfully implemented in the destructive WT. Where are we heading, comrades? Or maybe we're just reinventing the wheel)
