Posts from Wizard – “The Triumvirate” [Campaign 6, Mission 3]
I don't see any problems at all; it's like the last campaign, but it's so easy. The enemy heroes aren't developed at all; Godric defeats them with an army twice as small. Markal is clueless; even with full Darkness skills, he never uses them. I was hoping for something more challenging.
The campaign for the mages isn't particularly difficult; it's definitely easier than playing as either of the elf races. Although, I usually have Markel summon a phoenix and occasionally use darkness spells, like mass slow.
In general, playing as magic heroes in campaigns is very easy, especially when it comes to Dark Magic, which I think is the most powerful. While the Phoenix is moving, you can use Berserk and Mind Control to defeat half of the enemy's troops. Because of this, even battles against a numerically superior enemy become quite easy with Dark Magic. Try completing the game without it, though! My next playthrough of the fifth game and its expansions will involve a non-standard build. It might be unrealistic, but at least it won't be boring.
Variety is always a good thing. I remember that I used to prioritize Logistics for everyone, but lately, many heroes have stopped offering it. I only leave it for Isabel, Agrael, Fae'da, Frida, Wulfstan, Arantir, Ornella, and Gotai. Although Wulfstan has it from the start.
In general, playing as the Dark faction is too easy, especially with all the mind control and berserkers. I would make their application more challenging if I were the developers. In Warlords of the Horde, they added the ability to attack your own controlled unit. They should have made it so that the opponent couldn't attack a unit that you have taken control of. That is, once you take control, it's yours, and you can't attack it, but its allies can. Then, in the case of the last controlled unit, you would have to wait for it to break free from control and attack with your own forces. Instead of controlling, for example, a hundred Cyclops and calmly attacking with all of them, while they don't even retaliate.
The problem is that the heroes under AI control cast all sorts of nonsense. If many heroes could be taught anti-magic, mass dispel, and mass buffs, the game would be much more fun.
In the battle between Markel and Godric, Godric constantly countered my dark magic with antimagic. I would cast enthrall or berserk, and he would immediately cast antimagic on them. And Markel constantly used dispel against Zehir's enthrall or celestial shield. In general, the AI does a lot of stupid things, especially in the latest patch. It often lacks intelligence.
Godric also annoyed me with his anti-magic in that mission. As for the AI's stupidity, it's in Heroes 7 where it really lacks intelligence. So many patches have been released, but judging by the reviews, the AI is still as dumb as ever.
As for the seventh game, I haven't played it yet. But in general, watching other players, it doesn't seem very impressive. I've noticed quite a few similarities with the sixth game, at least in terms of turns.
