Do Elven Archers have an initiative of 16? Like Fury Archers? That's tough... Maybe it's not necessary to max it out that much? Instead, they could benefit more from increased agility (as they level up?). If the Kraken occupies more than 4 grid spaces (I couldn't tell from the screenshot), then I agree, it would be better to upgrade it to level 8 with increased stats. Otherwise, it's probably not essential.
@zahar0z, it would be better to place the Kraken and the Ancient Titan on level 8!
Level 8 for special creatures; the Titan doesn't quite fit there. In theory, what makes Titans worse than mages? But the Kraken... I don't know, it could have been made a boss like Aribann from Heroes 6 if you could have more than 4 cells on the arena.
These creatures will periodically appear on the maps at the location of the "random creature, of such and such a level" marker. Plus, they will be guardians in some buildings. A Titan in a pyramid, a Kraken in a sunken Temple, an Elf in a ship, a Blazing Golem in a Dwarf Fortress, and a Re-forged one in a Mage Guild. In short, it should be more or less balanced. So that it doesn't turn out that your building is guarded by an invincible Kraken, while your opponent has some kind of Angel.

I don't want to give level 8 to anyone for the same reason. And I don't really understand the point of making "super-mega-ultra-cool" creatures. We're not five years old, are we?

Is that too much? I think I based it on the Dancers, but I reduced the damage by half and gave it a double attack.
Dancing with Death has 15. But these are still the highest numbers; Emerald Dragons have 14, and Phoenixes have 18 or 19, and there don't seem to be any other creatures with such high numbers. I think they should only be given to creatures that really have that concept – to be among the first to move. But, of course, maybe that's what you planned all along...
Okay, so it seems like the display issue is due to the fact that this particular variation isn't defined in the .xdb file, but it's clearly present in the .exe file... by the way, have you tried using 4 cells?!
The only problem (?), it seems, is that the position of such a creature on the battlefield is not determined quite correctly. For example, the `pos` function will return the coordinates not of the center of the 3x3 square, but of the top-left corner of the 2x2 square, which is highlighted in yellow in the screenshot. But this is a rare situation and unlikely to affect anything.
Well, if it's a display issue, then that particular option simply isn't defined in the .xdb file, but it's clearly present in the .exe... by the way, have you tried 4 cells?!
Considering that the 3x3 implementation isn't perfect (just like gloss), it's best to forget about 4x4.
4x4 creatures are also quite viable, but their position is also determined by a 2x2 square, which is visually located in the upper left quarter. By the way, these squares are also displayed when selecting the movement range, so it doesn't quite clearly show where such a creature will move.

"Super mega ultra cool" creatures look quite good as bosses in campaigns and various storylines.
In my opinion, the Kraken would be a good fit for this role. It would look rather strange as a regular neutral creature. In mythology, this monster usually exists as a single entity, and it would be strange to fight neutral creatures in the form of a bunch of Krakens...
With the same logic, there could be more than one Zeus/Hades/Poseidon, etc. :D

In mythology, many creatures existed as a single entity. Like the Hydra and the Cyclops. Zeus, Poseidon, and others are a bit different, and if they were among the top five, they would be heroes, not creatures. So, you see my point.)
The Kraken might look better as a boss in "some Campaign," but for that, we need "that Campaign." Right now, I want to integrate the new neutral creatures into the game as much as possible. Otherwise, a regular user won't see any difference between having the mod installed or not. What difference does it make to them if there's a "very cool boss" somewhere if they never encounter it on the maps? And creators of custom maps can easily make this Kraken a boss for their map. Since all the mod's resources will be released separately as a separate file.
There is, however, a compromise. A regular 7th-level Kraken could appear on maps, and a single legendary 8th-level Kraken boss could appear in the sunken Temple (it could be slightly recolored). I actually like this idea. The implementation isn't difficult. I might do it this way if the idea of a 3x3 or 4x4 creature size works well. But I suspect it won't work well.

What if we made the Kraken a hero?! :smile26:
What if we replaced all the creatures and heroes in the game with Krakens?))) You clearly like this creature too much.)

The Death Dancers have 15. But these are extreme values anyway; Emerald Dragons have 14, Phoenixes have 18 or 19, and there don't seem to be any other creatures with such high initiative. I think they should only be given if the creature really has the idea of being one of the first to act. But, of course, maybe you already planned that...
I understand you; I'll slightly reduce their initiative. To 14. There wasn't any particular "idea for the creature"; I just took the stats of a similar creature from Might and Magic V and the stats and abilities of a creature from Might and Magic VII and made a small mix. So, I'm all for it. If you can help with balancing.

Regarding the Guards, I think the elite version should have increased damage, as an axe hits harder than a sword, and either reduce its initiative by 1 or not increase it when upgrading (because, in principle, 8 or 9 initiative without buffs like prayer doesn't really matter).
I think you're right about the initiative. It doesn't matter. And I agree about the damage. I'll increase it slightly.
Added 1 minute ago P.S. Do you want a Kraken boss? Come up with its characteristics and abilities, but in a way that it's both a boss and doesn't have everything mixed together.
And which Faction would it belong to? "The Cult of Cthulhu"? :D zahar0z
There is a compromise, though. On the maps, you could encounter a regular Kraken of level 7, and in the sunken Temple, there could be 1 legendary Kraken boss of level 8 (it could be slightly recolored). The idea is generally good. The implementation isn't complicated. I might do it this way if the idea of a 3x3 or 4x4 creature size works well. But I suspect it won't work properly.
That's roughly the message I wanted to convey: this creature should be incredibly rare and not multiply on the map. If it only appears in the Temple in a single instance, it can be made a "mini-boss."
On the map, you could place a "castrated" version that takes up 4 squares and has reduced stats.)

P.S. Want a Kraken boss? Come up with its characteristics and abilities. But make sure it's a boss and doesn't have everything mixed together.
Don't break the whole system. Take all the abilities in the game, throw them in a blender, shake them up, but don't mix them. Then, put the result into the creature's characteristics, and the boss is ready
