- Where have you been all this time? … From… Where did you get these wounds?!
- Don't worry! I'm fine! I was just busy with some things…
- What kind of things? Tell me what you're planning!
- What do you think? Are there many options?
- Are you still thinking about taking revenge on Ammon? Forget it! The past cannot be changed…
- Is it that easy to forgive him for killing our mother? To accept the suffering that haunts and will continue to haunt me throughout my life because of the Dark Mother?! No way! I won't back down from this! And anyway, it's too late to turn back now!
- Too late? Why is it too late?
- I've enlisted forces that no one can control!
- What forces are you talking about?
- Do you remember when we were kids, you used to tell me stories about a terrible dragon that incinerated entire armies and cities?...
- Ak-ta-ra-gon... Yes, I told you about him... Although I despise forest elves, they deserve credit for managing to capture and kill that dragon 15 years ago…
- Those forest creatures are arrogant liars! They didn't kill the dragon!.. Guess who found Aktaragon and awakened him?.. Hmm?
- No! Not that! Why did you do that?! Why didn't you consult with me?! This dragon will bring death to us all!!!
- Everything will be fine! For us… The dragon won't be able to break our agreement!
- Making a deal with a dragon is madness… Negotiating with a dragon is like jumping off one edge of a cliff in hopes that butterflies will catch you mid-air and carry you to the other side…
FIRST BLOOD
Today was little different from previous days. Even despite the rather long truce, many have not yet fully adapted to the quiet rhythm of life. Anxious rumors still circulate throughout the city, but not as intensely as a week earlier. The Dark Mother promised to protect her servants from any harm; they just need to continue regularly performing sacrifices. One of the candidates for sacrifice was encountered today by
WishmasteR. He was in a hurry somewhere, but the goblin had no intention of stopping bothering him with questions.
WishmasteR managed to get rid of the annoying goblin only by answering a few questions:
- According to my information, some residents of Iroidal are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the dragon so that it can finally free them from the tyranny of the Dark Mother. Do you happen to be part of this group?
- And who are you to question my loyalty to our goddess?!
- There are legends about a quartet of warriors who perfectly master deadly combat techniques, each specializing in a particular type of weapon… Are you one of them?
- You're mistaken! But if I meet any of them, I'll give you a tip so you don't bother anyone anymore!
- What? Are you too weak to deal with me yourself?
- It won't be difficult for me to take care of you! But you will soon be taken care of at the altar!
Meanwhile,
Zlobny Yashchur, waking up, discovered that half of his house was destroyed. All because his house seemed like an excellent place for the dragon to spend the night.
A reconnaissance group found
Drakkoshka near the city; she lay motionless on the ground with wide-open eyes. Fortunately, she was alive but, apparently being in a state of shock, did not respond to questions. She was taken back to the city, to the hut of one of the witches. Perhaps she will help determine what frightened
Drakkoshka so much.
Another scandal broke out during one of the services. Some town resident suddenly began laughing loudly several times during the rituals (the time when the whole city is plunged into silence) and just as suddenly fell silent, looking around in confusion. Then he stood up and headed towards the altar of the Dark Mother, twitching from side to side as if dodging invisible enemies, shouting something incoherent. The last straw was his attempt to relieve himself on the altar with the words: "Now I got you, Dragon! Now I'll defeat you with my light sword!" He was immediately subdued and sent to the leader. It’s scary to imagine what punishment awaits him…
After the service, the main square quickly emptied.
KindShaman was also already heading home when he heard a voice coming from the darkness. He went to the source of the sound but saw no one. Deciding that he must have imagined it,
KindShaman turned around and saw a witch standing right in front of him. Her face was unfamiliar to him; for a few seconds, he lost the ability to speak.
- So, do you like killing goblins and your fellow citizens to please your worthless goddess? – said the witch with a slight smile, interrupting the brief pause.
- Who are you?! –
KindShaman wanted to say, but he could only utter a few sounds.
- Oh, how much good could be done during the time you spent near that stupid altar? – continued the stranger, - after all, I could have been in place of those poor creatures…
- Who are you? – asked
KindShaman, this time more clearly.
The stranger just smiled in response. A moment later,
KindShaman fell to the ground. Blood gushed from a deep wound on his neck.
- Where is your goddess now? Why isn't she protecting you? – addressed the witch to the dying man.
...
"The hour of reckoning has come!" - she whispered quietly and disappeared into the darkness.
