Posts from Mafia 90. The Tale of Oldforest.Auto-translated
Thank you all for playing.
Manu and Mafam, thank you for your resilience and for not giving up (except... well, you know). A special thank you to **Revan** for the jokes. I know what it's like to play as a burnt-out Mafia member, and I remember it was hard to make jokes in a similar situation. And to **Kosha** – the last Mafia member who held out the longest. Also, thank you for not being afraid to go kill Alex a second time – towards the end of the game, it created some intrigue.
Thank you to the Villagers for the active discussion. I think the town played well this time, even though they were a bit out of it, as usual.
I'm playing with Mika, G.K., Snegovik, Oven, and Vall d'Emeroll for the first time here.
Thank you to **Mika** for the insightful analysis and for the out-of-game comments about the rules (in the game and related threads). And just for the company. It's nice playing with you.
**G.K.**, I was told that you're a strong player. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough of you here to see that.
**Snegovik**, so far, I've only realized that you're a dangerous type. We need to play more to understand you better.
**Oven.** What can I say? I'm disappointed. You didn't "leave the game"; you threw a tantrum and gave up. You let the team down. The only good thing I can remember about your game is the "musical pauses," but I expected more.
**Vall d'Emeroll** – I'll write a separate post about you later.
Thank you to the **GM** for running the set.
It's clear that the first set wasn't without its flaws.
1. Now, I'll remember forever why doubling Night Actions (NAs) can't be displayed in the newspaper with a nickname and why you can't place a speed-up on a town link. I suspect that not only I will remember this now.
2. The second issue is the display in the newspaper of the Herbalist's inaction. The newspaper displays NAs. Displayed or displayed in case of success. And only them. You and Yashur spent a long time cleaning up and making this list logically consistent. And then, suddenly, this blunder and inconsistency with the Herbalist – _inaction_ is displayed and blocked.
3. And finally. IMHO, the newspapers were too revealing. Maybe it seemed that way because of the displayed doubling of the Witch and the display of the Herbalist's inaction; I don't remember now, but sometimes it was awkward that there was so much information, and you almost didn't have to think – just transfer it to a table. I don't know how to fix this; I suspect that you need more gaming experience for that.
I agree with Mika that mistakes are not a reason not to try again; they just need to be taken into account in the next sets. And, if possible, make the next set with a smaller number of players so that you don't have to run around all the forums looking for a replacement.
Now, about the good things.
First, thank you to the GM for answering my questions. I know that there are always many of them, sometimes they are repeated, and often they are completely absurd. Thank you for the detailed explanations, because in some cases, it turned out that my understanding of the game mechanics differed from the GM's. So, asking questions was not superfluous.
Now, tomatoes might fly at me, but I think the role of the journalist was a plus in this set. IMHO, it was exactly the kind of journalist it should be right now. The description and limitations of the NAs seem to be exactly what they should be. But, as the game showed, this role needs to be introduced with a slightly different balance and without a town link with a speed-up.
And, of course, thank you for the role of the Berehynia. Some believe that she has crazy NAs and that it is a useless, even harmful role. I used to think so too, until I started playing. It turned out to be a very strong role, really capable of killing and confusing the town in a couple of moves, or, conversely, helping the town a lot. I was most worried that the Mafia would figure out my tactic of exchanging Villagers with the Witch (so that they couldn't be infected) and start throwing infections on the Witch. I'll finish reading the log, see who got what because of my exchanges. For now, I see that I successfully healed Nebka twice. That's nice; it means I chose the right tactic.
Oh yeah, there seemed to be a funny glitch related to the Berehynia – if she exchanges the Witch and the Witch's target, then the Witch doubles her NA on herself and can go to the same target again – get under the Berehynia's exchange, double, go to the same target... I didn't test this, but theoretically, it looks funny

Mika, with his posts summarizing the first two rounds, essentially eliminated himself from almost all peaceful roles:D. In my table, only the Guardian, Herbalist, Mafia, and Maniac remained as possibilities for him. My intuition didn't fail me regarding the Draconic. When I was about to use Fog on it, I was almost certain it was the Mafia. Later, the result of my action became a reliable cover for it, and if I hadn't returned to the game later, I don't know what the outcome would have been. The Priest-Witch-Wizard combination left the Maniac with no chance at the end of the game. I was also unsure who the Witch was – Snowman or Lizard. Both deciphered the interviews quite accurately. Perhaps the only thing I didn't like about the game was the confusion with the displayed/not displayed or possibly displayed blocks, attempts at killings, and so on. This is all unnecessary; it could have been made to display as it was in the previous game. And the Shaman sometimes gave away too much with comments in the thread).
I watched the log of Berehynia's moves and their consequences O_o Guys, I really didn't do it on purpose. It just happened that way.
Added 1 minute ago It's a really powerful move, but I think luck played a part.

When I was about to cast Fog on her, I was almost sure she was a Mafia member. Later, the result of my action became a reliable cover for her.
I hope you won't do that again.

Of course, there were many flaws in the game, but perhaps none of them were critical, except maybe the display of doubling and a couple of Journalist + Speed boosts, so I really enjoyed the Mafia game. First of all, thank you to the GM for putting in a lot of effort to run this game. I'm playing forum Mafia for the second time, and I was very pleased with the wonderful group, with whom it was just a pleasure to chat and have fun. The only thing that really upset me was the second kill on Ogre due to nerves, and Vall'dEmorol also caused some confusion; I still don't understand why she became an Adept. The Journalist turned out to be very good. Unlike the previous Mafia game, there are no imbalanced questions here, and you have to constantly come up with new ones, which I kept doing because of Alex's busyness. Regarding the decoding of the last poll, which was about Sareta. It's simple - I made a big mistake and asked questions that didn't help to identify the role at all. I have no idea what came over me then. I was very pleased with Mika's wonderful game as the Stronghold. Out of the three remaining candidates for the Stronghold, I suspected him the least. And also, thank you all for the pleasant time!
And if possible, make the next set with fewer players, so that we don't have to run around all the forums looking for a replacement =/
And the Shaman also wanted to have fewer roles, but I persuaded him to add 3 extra roles and even came up with them. And in general, the set turned out to be a collective effort. It's a pity that I didn't pay attention to the order of the Night phase before the game started - many mistakes could have been avoided. I would like to see higher quality newspapers in the next game, both in terms of displaying the Night phase and clues, and in terms of literary quality. Of course, it was atmospheric, but I expected more
It’s a pity that we couldn’t play as the werewolves again…
First of all, a big thank you to the GM for his efforts. I know that some people tried their best to make you stop the game, and even resorted to insults at the end, but in reality, for the first time, the game was, in my opinion, conducted magnificently. In general, well done, keep it up! Regarding the setting itself. Two things should be removed – the displayed speed and the mechanics of the journalist should be slightly changed. I had a few ideas about this, but they turned out not to be very good, I need to think about it. It is also worth thanking your team, we didn’t have much luck during the game, but that’s life. Kosha, Revan, Neyra – thank you very much for the game! I really liked the city game, the victory was absolutely deserved. Good daytime discussions, effective executions. Well done! Well, I was expecting (x5)kills from the maniac, it’s a pity that it didn’t happen, in this mafia I was rooting for him. Well, that’s it, in general.
The Shaman wanted to make it smaller, but I convinced him to add 3 extra roles and even came up with them. In general, it turned out to be a collaborative set. It's a pity that I didn't pay attention to the order of the Night Detective (ND) before the game started – we could have eliminated many inconsistencies. I would like to see newspapers of higher quality in the next game, both in terms of the presentation of the ND and clues, and in terms of literary quality. Of course, it was atmospheric, but I expected more.
Yes, we messed up with the order of the ND. As far as I remember, you came up with the herbalist. I came up with the scribe. We came up with the werewolf together. You said that the Mafia needed a silent killer for balance, similar to the elf in the game "Masters," and it suddenly occurred to me to make it a werewolf that kills normally or silently.
Editing the order of Non-Disclosure Agreements – it’s such a boring thing compared to searching for images and coming up with mechanics for roles, as well as adjusting the balance)

Although, you really surprised me with what you said about the order of NDAs. I haven’t really looked into it and have been using a modified version in my head.
Well, what can you expect from us, who came from the most primitive mafia, where rounds last only 5 minutes, there is no such thing as an order of NDAs, and everyone reveals their roles?
The main thing I know now is how to play the Mafia game correctly. The motto of a true Mafia player: "Don't confuse the town; it will confuse itself!!!"
Thank you all for playing!
This is my first time playing on this forum. I wasn't planning on playing, but I joined as a substitute and wasn't very active.
The setting is very interesting. In my opinion, the newspapers are too obvious; they shouldn't display so much information. Or at least, they should encrypt it somehow.
In the end, the roles were determined not so much by hints or behavior, but by the newspaper using a method of elimination.
Editing the order of Non-Disclosure Agreements is such a boring thing.
In my games, there is no order of Non-Disclosure Agreements at all. By default, everyone passes the Non-Disclosure Agreements, up to and including mutual killings. Whether or not a Non-Disclosure Agreement will pass depends on the character of the Non-Disclosure Agreement. It's clear that healing overrides killing, etc.
My intuition didn't fail me regarding the little dragon.
My mafia status doesn't mean my nickname can be written with a lowercase letter :(
Thank you to the GM, the team, the city, and the helpful players. It was very fun, and I'm not at all upset about my loss – the team didn't play well from the start, and it would be wrong to blame the balance; I think we were just unlucky. SnowmanV2, mika, you were a pleasant discovery for me, and although the latter complained about the unfamiliar rules, I'm still glad to have met you. Regarding the other newcomers, unfortunately, I can say less due to their low activity. Special thanks to Yashchur, Menti, Sesam, Nebka, and Nefele, who made the game possible. The GM did a great job! All the mistakes have already been repeatedly pointed out to him, and I think it's definitely worth trying to host another game with us. I'm also glad to have met him.
Yeah, the random element wasn't on your side; even the block from the Mafia didn't go through on the first night. G.K.
In my games, there are no Night Defense (ND) restrictions at all. By default, all NDs pass, even mutual kills. Whether an ND passes or not depends on the nature of the ND. It's clear that healing overrides killing, etc.
What about blocks? =/
