"Новичок-2014. Summer"

Greetings to all fans of Heroes of Might and Magic 3, future participants, and supporters of the traditional "Новичок" tournament. And even if you are not a fan of Heroes :eek: , I still welcome you and invite you to the new season. I hope it will bring great games and discoveries of new players.
This is our traditional, already eleventh tournament for Новичок.
We do not have a precise and strict definition of who a "новичок" is. This tournament is for those
- who only recently realized that you can play the favorite old game Heroes online,
- who only recently found out that they are not the only ones who can easily beat computers and that things are not so simple with a real person,
- who recently started playing with more than one or two heroes and building chains...
We do not invite fathers and grandfathers, we do not want to see clones, and would a medal obtained in such a dubious way even have value for a strong player?
The main goal of the tournament is to get to know each other and gain experience in communication and gameplay.

Winners of past tournaments:
"Новичок-2014. Winter" - Aiwe
"Новичок-2013. Summer" - The_
"Новичок-2013. Winter" - высокий
"Новичок-2012. Summer" - twaryna
"Новичок-2012. Winter" - 7z
"Новичок-2011. Summer" - Sky Pioneer
"Новичок-2011. Winter" - Sevensan
"Новичок-2010. Summer" - тенью бездомной
"Новичок-2010. Winter" - Сатир
"Новичок-2009. Summer" - Erdem

Participant Requirements:
1. registration on the HW forum between June 1 2013 and June 6 2014;
2. total experience playing HoMM3 online - no more than 1 year; long breaks in play are discussed individually;
3. absence of strong results in tournaments on HW and other resources (specifically, 1-3 places in previous "Новичок" tournaments or any other tournament, reaching the final stages of major tournaments) - subject to the organizers' opinion;
4. participation prior to this tournament in no more than one "Новичок" tournament;
5. absence of forfeits or withdrawals in other tournaments;
6. availability of time and ability to play 1 game per week (consider the time zone) - priority playing times are considered 19-24 MSK on weekdays and 12-24 MSK on weekends;
7. at least 5 games on the HW forum (can be played before the participant list is approved) with different opponents and detailed reports - organizers need to ensure that you can technically play online and have an understanding of the rules of play on HeroesWorld. Tournament organizers Roger DAltavilla (IСQ 624681987), Iamsamstan (IСQ 435191039) can play with you if you cannot find an opponent;
8. players wishing to participate in the tournament agree to provide any additional information requested by the tournament judges;
9. players agree to the regulations and rules of the tournament;
10. players are required to closely follow all announcements from organizers in the tournament thread.

Organizers reserve the right to deny registration to any player without a public explanation of reasons.
Players who have an earlier or later registration on the forum but wish to play in the tournament may submit an application, which will be considered on an individual basis.

Submit applications in this thread. There is a Detailed instruction with pictures FAQ17 on the forum explaining how to do this.
You need to do the following:
1. Check if your ICQ number is entered in your profile; add it if it is missing.
If it is in your profile, a small green daisy - the ICQ symbol - is visible under the avatar. If not, follow the algorithm.
2. Leave an application in this thread. To do this, click the Sign up for tournament button located at the beginning of this thread and at the top of each page.
3. In the application, specify convenient times (days and hours) for playing and your time zone.
4. 2-3 days before the draw, you must contact the lead Roger DAltavilla (IСQ 624681987) to confirm participation. Players who disappear from the forum (no user activity for a week) will not be admitted to the draw.

Organizational Matters.
1. Leads - Roger DAltavilla (IСQ 624681987), Iamsamstan (IСQ 435191039). Judge - Pit for LM (ICQ 471401475).
2. The tournament is held according to the Rules of organization, conduct and participation in HOMM3 online tournaments.
3. Organizers will make changes to the rules and regulations during the tournament if necessary.
4. For each played game, participants must submit a detailed report and detailed confirmation in this thread. Only then is the game counted. All tournament reports must be written using the automatic report writing system: Detailed instruction with pictures FAQ18.
- To create a report, click the New report button located at the top of each page of the thread and fill in all necessary fields according to the template. After that, write your detailed comments on the game.
- To confirm a report, the second player must find the game report, click the Confirm report button and also write a detailed report.
- It is considered good tone to thank the opponent for the game.
5. All tournament games go into the HoMM3 HW Player Rating.
6. Technical results are assigned for games not played within the established timeframe.
7. Saves and password files for all games must be kept until the end of the tournament and presented upon first request by the leads, judges, or any member of the AC. Forgetting or losing a game password may serve as grounds for assigning a technical defeat in the game.
8. Disputed points, if any arise, are requested to be discussed off-forum. For resolution, you must contact the lead or judge in ICQ and provide daily saves, ICQ logs, and other necessary information.
The same's decision is based primarily on tournament rules. If a situation is not regulated by the rules, judges are guided by basic logic and gaming ethics.
9. The tournament winner will be awarded the "Winner of Tournament 'Новичок'" medal under their avatar:

Regulations.
To be determined later, depending on the number of registered participants. We expect a traditional scheme: group stage + team tournament + play-offs.
So, the number of participants has been determined. Clarifying the regulations:
Stage 1. 24 participants are divided into 4 groups of 6 people. A round-robin tournament is held in each group, where everyone plays everyone else once. 1 point is given for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, and zero for a loss. The 4 people with the best results advance from the group to the next stage. Result criteria by order of importance: 1) points earned, 2) Berger coefficient, 3) result of head-to-head meeting. If these criteria are insufficient, players will be offered a system of tie-breaker games. If that also fails, democratic judicial discretion will be applied.
Stage 2. Tournament of novices against veterans. NP vs LM More details in post №3
Stage 3. Play-off. Starts on August 11 2014. Conducted via an Olympic system with elimination after the second lost match. Each match in the upper bracket is played until two wins, and in the lower bracket until one win. Time limit for 1 game - 1 week. (The loser in the upper bracket moves to the lower bracket and continues playing there. The loser in the lower bracket is eliminated from the competition.)
For templates in the first game, the player listed first in the pair chooses first; their opponent chooses castles first. In the second game, you switch places. For the third game, you may toss a coin or ask the organizer.

Dates.
Registration - June 7 2014 - June 30 2014.
Approval of participant list - July 1-4 2014.
Group stage draw and tournament start - July 5 2014.
Time limit for one game - 1 week.

Rules.
1. Game version. The tournament is held on game version SoD 3.2(4.0) + HD mod + by mutual consent HW_rulez (for correct operation, the patch must be installed for both players).
2. The tournament is conducted according to the rules of online games in Heroes 3.
3. Restarts total 3 days ( 111+111+111 or 111+112 or 113).
4. In the initial stage of the tournament, games are played on template 2sm4d(3). In the final part of the tournament, the template is chosen by drawing from a list of 5 templates: 2sm4d(3), jebus Cross, Panic, 8mm6a (version without one-way paths), mini nostalgia.

Having finally reached the fork, Clavius takes the box for the entire 4th level behind a hundred eyes, and on the next turn the opponent surrenders, his draw was unlucky. Well, he’ll surely tell the story himself.

Thanks for the game!
Yeah, I can even show it =). Start with built lizardmen, but I didn’t get to celebrate long — the adjacent zone to the center is completely blocked by 10-19 cyclopes.
No restarts, and the split is only across 4 heroes, so naturally the opponent doesn’t take the restart :(. On 112 I freed Ain from prison + there was Enova, on 113 I found an elevator to the underground and another exit to the adjacent zone with the center via a roadless path. In the adjacent zone on lava there’s a lookout — it reveals 2 portals to the center nearby, an inner treasure zone on snow with nothing important, and part of a green computer’s respawn. I had little power, so I decided to try reaching my own castle on 121, but failed. There was a miner, I cut down Ain, but with my main I didn’t make it on 121 — overall I lost 3 days capturing a dungeon. By this time, I see neither altars nor hives in my part of the map.
On 123 I break through 2 portals to the center, the opponent isn’t visible yet, but with my actual army I can take only 1 hive. Well, then I freed the quest legs of the legion from 19 horses with heavy losses, crashed at the dungeon’s respawn, gave them up, and got 20k exp (cash would’ve been more useful), I head to the corner treasure zone, there’s nothing there either, and at that moment the opponent arrives in the center with 500 skeletons and 5+ angels, while I have basically no power at all. You’d have to be insane to keep running around)).
After surrendering, I revealed the map — on two respawns, two adjacent zones, a corner and inner treasure zone, there are no hives or altars at all) brutal.
The only correct move here was to go into the other central treasure zone with 2 angel dig spots right on the second week, but how was I supposed to know that...
Thanks for the game.

I played against a double, had a good start — Dwarf Cottage on day 1, external dwelling of eyes, Deesa, and Tant. A convenient portal to the center on 112 right after breaking the block in the adjacent zone, where there’s immediately a Griffin Conservatory (2 with Griffin Statues), then a lift to the computer with blocks that tore me up badly (Markizars+ Lizards at the exit), and then the computer is blocked by 10-19 centaurs for an artifact, but another Griffin Conservatory is visible. Meanwhile, in the center I ran into 20-49 gold golems blocking a beehive, and further on another Griffin Conservatory is visible. My opponent took his computer on 116, and I decided I needed to gather all objects quickly for the second one, and on 121 I merge into a double Griffin Conservatory, finish it off with Tant on harpies, then break through the guards of the other Griffin Conservatories — they are all tier 3-4. I broke into another central treasure zone, there’s a town right away and nothing decent. Barely broke through about fifty gold golems blocking a beehive, and there was nothing to do but go into it — it turned out to be big. At the opponent's, an Arch is revealed in the Rogues' Den, decided I had to go in anyway; Deesa couldn't handle the max beehive. Played very poorly, a predictable result.
Thanks for the game.

Played against a double, had a good start, Dwarf Cottage on day 1, external dwelling of eyes, Dessa and Tant. Convenient portal to the center on 112 right after breaking the block into an adjacent zone, in which there was immediately a Griffin Conservatory (2 with griffin stats), then a lift to the computer with blocks that beat me up badly (manticores+basilisks at the exit) and then the computer was blocked by 10-19 horses for an artifact, but another Griffin Conservatory is visible, meanwhile in the center I ran into 20-49 gold golems for a Hive and further another Griffin Conservatory is visible. Opp took his computer on 116 and I decided that I needed to collect all the objects quickly on the second and on 121 I merge into a double Griffin Conservatory, clear it with Tant on harpies, then break the guards of the other Griffin Conservatories, they are all 3-4, broke into another central treasure zone, there was immediately a town and nothing good, barely broke through about fifty gold golems for a Hive and there was nothing to do but go into it, I checked it, it was big, an archangel is revealed in the opponent's rogue's lair, I decided that I still needed to go there, Dessa max couldn't handle the Hive. I played very badly, a predictable result.
Thanks for the game.

The game started very hard, starting with a dubious choice of hero ending with a stupid mistake when exiting the portal on 113 — on the other side in the adjacent zone there were 20-49 wyverns (shifted guard of the passage to the treasure zone) which blocked the way back, I went with Tazar on basilisks and gnolls planning to bring the ducks and go at the computer, and then kill them already on the 2nd week, but I didn't account for the ducks after Tazar not being able to get past the wyverns. I discovered this already on 114 and there was nothing to do but go to the computer with what Tazar had.

But then everything went very well — the computer turned out to be blocked at the exit from the castle and I managed to kill him on 116 and build wyverns there on the 1st week. And from the computer there was a passage to zone 12, where for the first time in my entire short heroic career I pulled an archangel from a refuge) In the same zone I cleared 2 boxes — they gave 30 water elementals and 30 fire elementals, and there I also took a small Dragon Fly Hive.

In the underground, using the view spell, I saw the opponent's movements in the central zone and had already prepared a chain to cover him, but a surrender message came.

Thanks for the game!

Spent all restarts. Two roads from town were blocked, no level 2, Gosha with 2 stacks. Well, necro isn't the best option on Jebus, but with Gosha it's possible. Close external dwellings to town - 2 pits fiend dwellings, by the end of the week another gog dwelling was found. The passage to one of the secondary zones is blocked by Obsidian Gargoyles, the respawn was developed quite quickly thanks to external taverns. On 114 I found the first Hive behind the pegasuses, scouted it - it's a big one, nothing to take it with, by the end of the week I scouted the respawn, farmed skeletons, leveled Gosha, and prepared chains to capture objects on 121.
At the start of the second week, I took the aforementioned Hive with a secondary hero, which turned out to be a maxi, losing 30 skeletons + meat from the Tower village, then with another secondary hero I took the +2 HP flask, then with Gosha I took a box for 20-49 gold worth of dendroid guards for 10k experience. That was the decisive moment for me in the game; Gosha was level 12 with all skills on Expert, and I got lucky - Earth magic was finally offered and it immediately leveled to Expert. Then on 123 I split Gosha and through an external tavern I stayed overnight at the Griffin Conservatory 3-4 and during that turn I took 2 Hives for 8+4 wisps. On 124 I hit a double Guard Outpost - first 50+ dread knights, then 70 of their unupgraded versions, and I reached the central ramp, sped up, and in the last seconds of the turn placed a Mage Guild there. From town there were two roads: one to the respawn towards the opponent with an unbroken Guard Outpost of 50+ manticores, and the second to the center where another 2 Guard Outpost blocks closed the path.
In general, since the end of 122, the timer was really pressuring me and I made a fatal mistake - I decided to replenish mana with the red color. I wasn't too wary of the opponent, but during his turn he sharply raised his stats (took Gladius + doubled his spellpower parameter), broke through the Guard Outpost, scouted me with a secondary hero - I had 15/100 mana, and he caught me at the ramp fort.
He had 2 red dragons, 4 angels, 18 scorpicores, 190 troglodytes, and 1+1+1 harpies / I had 5 sultans, 3 angels, 24 ducks (which merged into 1 stack), 40 magogs, 250 skeletons. We fought for 30+ minutes; the opponent skillfully used his mana advantage, having 70 against my 15. I had a chance for a decent trade by casting Haste on the ducks for my last mana and striking the scorpicores, but I didn't risk it; however, no matter the outcome, I would have lost Gosha in the battle and had no prospects afterwards.
Good game from the opponent, instant punishment for a mistake, gg.
Thanks for the game!

Congratulations Falcone on a well-deserved victory in the tournament. His path was quite difficult and thorny. After losing in the upper bracket quarterfinals, he managed to reach the grand final and take revenge, winning 3-0.
In the first game on 8mm6a, the game's pace was killed by a block of cyclopes at the exit of my respawn.
In the second game on 8mm6a, I fully paid for my gross mistakes and, after several losses, decided to surrender.
In the third game on Jebus Cross, having played decently without major mistakes, I underestimated the situation and let slip a game where I could have seriously hoped for a win.

I thank my opponent for the game, for a good final.
I thank the organizers for the tournament; in the six months I've been playing Heroes Online, my game has improved significantly, largely thanks to this tournament.
I thank all the opponents I had the chance to play against; it was very interesting to play and communicate.
Thank you for the tournament.

Congratulations to Falcone on a well-deserved victory in the tournament. His path was quite difficult and thorny. After a loss in the 1/4 of the upper bracket, he managed to reach the grand final and take revenge, winning 3-0.

In the third game on Jebus, having played decently without major mistakes, I underestimated the situation and lost a game in which I could have seriously hoped for a win.

I thank the opponent for the game, for a good final.
I thank the organizers for the tournament, for the half a year that I have been playing Heroes Online, my game has improved significantly, largely thanks to this tournament.

Thanks for the tournament.

We took all restarts, got a good layout: day 114 Troglodytes, an external dwelling of dragons, stables, external dwellings of manticores, scouted on day 111. I only expanded to 5 heroes though, didn't have enough money at the start.

Day 112 I go to hit the external dwelling of dragons, fought poorly with the guard - dendroids - and lost 14 Troglodytes and 7 Evil Eyes, in the dwelling I lost another 14 Troglodytes. Opened the overview in the center of the respawn, saw good things: gloves, another external dwelling of cats, 2 Dragon Fly Hives, a Pandora's Box for 20-49 gr. wolves, next to the gate a Gladius for 50-99 snipers and a library. But everything was scattered very far.

Day 113 I take the Pandora's Box, it gave 5k experience, nothing useful was offered, I had to take Wisdom at level 6. I gather money, scouted the gate - 50-99 manticores and the central castle right at the exit.

Day 114 I take a mini Dragon Fly Hive, take the gloves - Shakti gets Earth Magic! I approached close to the gate and discovered that right behind the manticores there is a road to the opponent's respawn and there are 4 different gates of 3 types of dread knights and devils.

Day 115 I scouted 2 Griffin Conservatories - one is a 1-level and the edge of another was visible within 2 days of movement for Shakti. I decided that I could take the 2-level one and, lacking better prospects, directed my main hero towards the griffin dwelling.

Day 116 I took the 1-level Conservatory, but the other turned out to be 3rd level with a grail structure, I can't handle it without growth, and I decided to split back home for the spell book and run to it again, while the other guys were collecting manticore dwellings and money to buy them out.

Day 117 Shakti runs to the Conservatory, money is being gathered, which is sorely lacking. I build ferry chains.

Day 121 Two native heroes arrive, I go mass Troglodytes, there are 3 dwellings still. Made a mistake with the chain and was a couple of moves short of the Conservatory.

Day 122 I take the Conservatory losing 12 Troglodytes, split back home, make 80 mana, run to the gate - 2 days away. Scout heroes take a cloak for +2+2 spell power/knowledge

Day 123 I breach the snipers, chain-grab an artifact for +3+3 spell power/knowledge and stop next to the library and the gate with angels, scorpicores and dragons. On his turn, the opponent starts hitting a gate and then stays in the castle.

Day 124 I ferry all artifacts and Troglodytes from dwellings, take the library, attack Galtran with a scout hero, see 14 mana, kill a few gogs with archery, then attack with Shakti.

Finale - the opponent already described the army composition, my stats are 20 6 11 9, Galtran has 11 13 5 11. We fought for quite a while, but the advantage in mana and 140 archers allowed me to first cut down the magog, efreeti angels, and ducks, and then finish off the skeleton stack, with a counterattack from the dragon and with Bless on the Troglodytes.

Thanks for the game!

I also wanted to thank my opponent in the final for the game. A very worthy opponent and the final score clearly does not reflect the balance of power. I was quite lucky with the layouts, just as in some games on the way to this very final, take for example the games against Rabe and Jewelmask, when I no longer believed in victory at all, but managed to pull through. But I am very, very happy with this victory. All these six months I lived for the game and was hardly distracted by anything else. Friends and family even started to worry about me)

Special thanks to Svetogor, with whom I played my first online games. He helped me a lot at the beginning to figure out what was what here)

:smile44: This glorious tournament has come to an end. Congratulations to the winner - Falcone, and skd and Sloth_D for 2nd and 3rd place respectively. And of course, I want to thank all the participants for not causing any trouble and for playing the matches without delays. Almost always, by the end of the week, we had the necessary reports, without any reminders. You are all great, and now is the time to conquer new tournaments. :) And a special thank you to all the dads for participating in the NP vs LM sub-tournament.

Yes, Skd has improved significantly; I remember a three-player game with a troll and me. Now, he could probably put up a much better fight. Falcone, congratulations.

And I shouldn't have refused the draw against Svetogor; when the game goes into the late game, you start making a lot of mistakes. Plus, after playing before work, I lost 2 Phoenixes and the Moon on turn 117, leaving only 1 Angel.

He won 2 and lost 1 game in the season; and they played against Scadi before a newcomer.
And if you go to the seasonal rating, it somehow shows that DaU played 11 games and lost all 11, it seems like there's a conspiracy against you:smile04:
