2. The tournament will be held on the Russian version of Heroes 1 from Buka. The save file will be generated on the Russian version 1.1.
Is this a strict requirement? I have the English version, but I'd like to try my luck. Is it possible?
New here? I'm Roha — want a quick tour?

well, a couple of days ago... the "story" about this was finished.
Is this a strict requirement? I have the English version, and I wanted to try my hand. Is it allowed?
I can add my two cents... but it's a rather sad story.
Just the other day, I found and downloaded the English version 1.1, not the one where the computer drags around dwarves and orcs. And I was even thinking of playing on it... but something terrible happened - the Battle Grounds (that is, the arenas where battles take place) have a different structure in these versions (Buka 1.1 and Original 1.1). Specifically, the trees, craters, and other obstacles are located in different places on the map. This is a very important point, as the majority of battles are won by using the terrain to your advantage.
Why did you download the English version when you have a licensed disc from Buka?
It is obvious that a licensed product, which in this case is version 1.1 from Buka, cannot be simply downloaded like its English counterpart.
We hold Tournaments not on pirated copies, but exclusively on licensed products!
However, in Heroes 1, it is sometimes very difficult to determine which version the game was played on, and without a very thorough check, it is practically impossible to do so!
But, I hope that you will not promote this fact, but play within the established rules.
I repeat: if inadequate actions of the AI are detected during the save file check, and it is determined that the player was not playing on the version specified in the rules, his save file will be annulled, and the player's reputation on the forum will be negative!
Sincerely, VDV_forever
I think this was done only as an experiment. In other versions of Heroes, the English and Russian versions with the same patches do not differ in any way. Here, however, the opposite is true. Moreover, externally they are no different, that is, the computer plays the same as on the Book version, but there are differences only in battle. And Sir Kamikaze just wanted to emphasize that it is also impossible to play on the English version 1.1, as well as on the DOS version 1.0, since some battles cannot be won due to differences in terrain on the Book version.
And I was even thinking about playing on it...
It’s strange to hear that from you, especially considering that you are one of the organizers of Heroes 1 tournaments, and in one of your posts in the tournament for the 1st stage named after Kanighem, you explained to the participants that playing the English version of Heroes is prohibited!
Why did you download the English version when you have a licensed disc from Buka?
After all, it is obvious that a licensed product, which in this case is version 1.1 from Buka, cannot be downloaded just like that, like its English counterpart.
At that time, I didn't know about the English version 1.1, and in the post, I focused on the version number.
In the second and third games, there are also differences in the different versions 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 in HOMM3, and Price of Loyalty also differs from the first release of HOMM2. But between the English and Russian versions, the differences have always been only in the translation... no more, which is why I was looking for the English 1.1 for HOMM1. And when I found it, I started testing... as a result of which I found differences in the gameplay. Therefore, we prohibit playing not only on 1.0 but also on 1.1 Original (we've really gone too far  ).
I think it would be worth adding the version number to the second point of the rules, on which you can play, otherwise, someone might find a Russian version 1.0 on the vast expanses of the internet, and then there will be friction again.
Thank you for your attention.
But between the English and Russian versions, the differences have always been only in the translation... no more
