In short, I recently delved into the models from the Might and Magic games and put together this concept remaster of units from the fifth game.
I probably won't finish it, but I still wanted to share the images and ideas.
In the picture with the helmets, I came up with a concept for the helmet upgrade for the third-level swordsman.
For the arms/legs of the armored/swordsman units, I took elements of armor from the hero in M&M: Dynasty, and for the bodies of the archers, as you can easily guess, I used archers from M&M: Heroes 6. I also used models from the Osp (open-source) packs for Mount & Blade. The helmets are from Dejawoolf, the torso armor for the armored and swordsman units, and the boots for the archers are from Narf from his Man at Arms and Transitional Armor packs.

Well, if you don't plan to finish it yourself, share it with the community... maybe someone will finish it!
You can easily get all of this yourself from the games and resource packs; I specifically wrote where I got everything from. I didn't perform any special file manipulations. So, the only potential value here lies in the concept, which is what I shared.
Seriously, my rough cuts of model pieces with draft textures won't be of any value to anyone. It only looks reasonably decent from the front. I didn't put them into the game or attach them to a skeleton. Do you see the holes in the shoulders? The distorted textures? It's all just a draft. A concept. It was relatively easy to come up with this rough idea, but bringing it to a finished, good state is quite tedious.
And, frankly, I don't know if there's anyone in our community who would be interested in refining and implementing this idea and who has the skills to do so. But if such a person exists, let them come forward; maybe we can come up with something together. And if they need these, uh, "my" "developments," I won't mind "sharing" them, even though it's all easily found independently.
P.S. I'm not playing the "Footman" game here, if that's what you're thinking. Like, this isn't "I came to brag, ran away, and didn't upload anything." It's just that there's not much to upload here besides these screenshots. I don't have the strength or desire to properly finish this right now, but I wanted to share the idea. That's all. It was like, "Imagine how cool it would be."
By the way, regarding the Footman. If anyone needs crossbowmen or spearmen from Heroes 6, you can get them with animations from Might & Magic: Legacy using the Assets Studio program, as I already wrote in the neighboring thread. Other models from Legacy can be obtained without a full set of animations, but if a model with the same skeleton was in Heroes 7, it can be easily adapted. Just adjust its size to match the Heroes 7 model and import the Heroes 7 model on top of it as a .cmd file. The bones will jump into the correct places, and the animation will fit. The Footman's secret "magic" has been revealed to the masses. As they say, use it. If there was anyone to use it)
If anyone needs crossbowmen or spearmen from Might & Magic VI, you can get them with animations from Might & Magic X: Legacy using the Assets Studio program, as I already mentioned in the neighboring thread. Other models from Legacy can be obtained without a full set of animations, but if a model with the same skeleton was in Might & Magic VII, it can be easily adapted. Just adjust its size to match the one from Might & Magic VII and import the Might & Magic VII model over it as a .cmd file. The bones will jump into the correct places, and the animation will fit. Footman's secret "magic" has been revealed to the masses. As they say, use it. If anyone would...
Could this secret "magic" be presented with pictures?!
Sorry, but it's impossible to explain with just two pictures, and I don't want to spend another couple of weeks on a detailed guide. I've had enough of that once. By the way, you were the one who asked for that guide the most, and in the end, you didn't even use it.)) But I'm just kidding. Actually, I'm glad you convinced me to write that guide. It helped a couple of people.
And there's nothing particularly complicated about this specific "magic," and a smart person can figure it out quickly. You take a model from the seventh game, save it as an obj and as an smd. You open a new file, import the model from the legacy version. Then you add the obj model from the seventh game to it. You adjust the legacy model's size to roughly match the seventh game model and import the smd model from the seventh game on top of it.
And how many such models are there, models that were in the sixth game and retained their skeletons in the seventh? If you don't count the pikemen and crossbowmen, whose animations are easy to get anyway, and the cavalry, which I couldn't find in the legacy version, then there's only one or two such models, right? The improved manticores and the improved vestals. I'm not counting the coral priests, because you only need to change the staff, and there's no need to do any smd manipulations for them.
You need to understand my point, psatkha. I, too, after seeing a bunch of new resources from the legacy and Dynasty games, would really like to add them to the fifth game. But I simply don't have the time or energy to work on mods right now. And, most importantly, I just can't justify it for myself.
And I would need years to do it alone, which would be absolutely useless for my development. In theory, I could try to gather like-minded people to share the work and do more together. But who would I invite? Hannick, Zobra, Waterfall? In my opinion, the models that Hannick ports still need serious refinement; there are a lot of small flaws in each one. And Zobra and Waterfall are already actively working on their own projects, and secondly, they would have to be taught new things, and is that even necessary for them? They probably have their own things and their own priorities. I could try to collect some kind of micro-donation to somehow financially compensate for the time spent on this, but something tells me that there are more downsides to this idea than upsides. It would be pennies, I would have to deal with it, somehow advertise, persuade people, this is a separate job, and most people would perceive this idea very negatively.
In the end, no matter how you look at it, it's a dead end. It's a pity, of course, but what can you do? In the end, mods are still a harmful hobby for me that I find it hard to quit.
This was a rambling post, thank you for your attention

Well, I remember that I asked for it... I thought that having a manual with pictures, I could attract my son and his friends, but alas... as they said in one Russian cartoon, "The son is not like the father, the son is not like the father..." But I still want to thank you very much for the above-mentioned manual; this year, during my vacation, I plan to deal with this issue... last year, COVID-19 affected me very strongly, both in terms of work, the failure of my laptop with many of my developments, and my health... from November 14, 2020, to December 28, 2020, I was very ill, as I have chronic bronchitis, but praise be to the Almighty, I recovered and am slowly finding the strength for my hobby!

Regarding your son: everyone has their own interests and hobbies. Regarding the pandemic: yes, it was a difficult year. It hit me hard, as it did many others. I'm glad you recovered. We'll get through this; everything will be alright.
I came up with a small concept.
What would the armor from the zombie in Dark Messiah look like on a zombie from Heroes of Might and Magic V (this is a model from the multiplayer, it's in the second screenshot)?
Overall, this is a concept for a third upgrade for zombies.

What do you think? Does it look good?
It looks pretty cool, although the weapon seems a bit too large and disproportionate in my opinion, but considering the "clumsy" attack style, as in the original, it might look good. And maybe add a little more blood to the armor.
For some reason, it reminds me of the third Warcraft... Well, overall it's good. Although it's a bit cartoonish, with that belly sticking out from under the armor, but for me personally, that's a plus.
Yes, I think the cartoonish style is a plus here. In the sense that it looks like an improved version of an existing unit. The units from the fifth game were quite cartoonish. Might and Magic used to make them smaller, and they looked worse. The regular zombies had a rather large axe, so after that, a sword of normal size doesn't look that great anymore.
Khottabych also noticed that there's not enough armor. I think it would be good to add armor to the belt and one of the legs.
Regarding the color, I think it would be better to take the idea from Waterfall.
That is, all second-level upgrades have one color scheme, and all third-level upgrades have another. And if we're going to create a zombie branch parallel to the ghoul branch, then at the second level, they should be greenish, and at the third level, white with black armor. In the color scheme of the improved ghouls from the sixth game.
That's all. These are hypothetical thoughts about a mod that I probably won't make.
I kind of want to, but I'm trying not to spend time on it.

A cool zombie turned out =) If I were doing it, I'd probably make the third-tier undead crimson.
If I were to spend time on it, we need shamans on bear mounts for the dwarves xD And they should cast spells while riding =) Just kidding, but honestly, I struggled today trying to find a *move* for the Jarls/Earls. It's a pity that the developers didn't create an animation for them (I put the Archdevil's walking animation on them).
If you're going to spend time on it, we need Orcish shamans riding bear-like Gnomes.
By the way, this reminded me of one of my ideas. I wanted to create an alternative development path for Orcish shamans, making them ride Basilisks like in the seventh game. Wouldn't that be cooler than bears?))
This, by the way, as far as I remember, corresponds to the Basilisk's level in the third game. It was a 4th-tier creature there. In the seventh game, they seemed to be a higher tier.
In Heroes of Might and Magic V, there's a model for a flagship for the Demonlord, but it's not tied to the hero. Has anyone encountered a situation where a hero has a flagship that isn't centered, but rather positioned to the right and slightly behind, like a knight's flagship?
