So, you can play as any faction; I sometimes do that too. But mostly, I prefer Inferno and Necropolis.

New here? I'm Roha — want a quick tour?
In summary, I would say that Necromancers are better suited for XL maps - there is a lot of meat, opponents are usually far away, and Conflux is better for a faster start.
Everything written is based on a game played on the highest difficulty with a shortage of money and resources.
the main feature is the Black Dragons due to their immunity to magic.
to the admins/moderators... move the topic to another section.
the subsection is downloads, and the topic is favorite castle.
I've already seen how a good forum gets cluttered with topics
and becomes completely unreadable...
Personally, I enjoy playing as Necromancers! It's great when new units join your army after each battle (even if they are skeletons). And if you collect the "King of the Undead's Cloak," you can build a decent army without even returning to your Castle! Plus, their magic is quite powerful! ;)
Indeed, the Black Dragon in Heroes of Might and Magic III is a very inconvenient unit – it’s expensive and takes a long time to build (by the time you build everything necessary in the Castle, the Barbarians will have been producing 3 monsters per week for a month).
Building order:
1. Stronghold
2. Castle
3. Wolves
4. Rukh
5. Black Dragon!
Plus 2 more days for stockpiling and building whatever else you like
(Orcs + Ogres, for example).
And if you already have Wolves in the Castle, you can even build Cyclops.
Of course, this is on a rich map with sufficient resources.
But for the Black Dragon, you need ALL the creatures before it, plus 2 levels of the Red Guild of Mages – even with abundant resources, it takes until the second week!
Furthermore, the Barbarians require wood + ore + crystals, while the Dungeon requires all resources!
It's interesting to see who plays as what faction, but I always stick to playing as humans, sorry, you don't choose your homeland.
I wonder, how will you prevent me from reaching level 5 magic and black dragons if the map is XL, huh? Even with the Elves, it's impossible! And when Armageddon comes, the entire Barbarian army won't even have time to understand what's happening.
Black dragons move faster, attack two at once (if the enemies are positioned favorably) + plus, they are immune to any magic!
Manticoras are much better than Rocs (more health!)
and even upgraded Minotaurs hit so hard that it's scary!
The Barbarian Castle has little magic; at most, you can count on the Ring of Cold and Lightning!
It depends on how you evaluate them.
If you consider the ratio of construction cost/requirements/unit cost/characteristics/construction time, then manticores are clearly not worth it.
They have the highest construction cost and requirements for their level. They are even more expensive than nagas.
The unit cost is comparable to that of a wyvern.
The characteristics are comparable to those of a wyvern.
And paralysis is clearly more useful than poison.
But wyverns can be built on the 1st turn (if you have archers in the castle), and with Tazar, they become practically invincible. Wyvern Rush on small maps is effective.
IMHO
This is just my opinion. :)
Castle, Tower. Optimal combination of Price/Quality/Magic/Combat.
I have to disagree about the Tower, as it's the most resource-intensive castle, and it takes a lot of in-game days to fully build it.
The Castle, on the other hand, is perfect for development and very easy to upgrade. You don't build the forge there just for show, and so on... in general, it's "overpowered," as they like to say here.
