In summary, I would say that Necromancers are better suited for XL maps - there is a lot of meat, opponents are usually far away, and Conflux is better for a faster start.

Conclusion. They are good, but not so good that they can be considered overpowered. Tarzar or Bron, with magic resistance, can handle them without much trouble. But on rich maps, they become a formidable force.

IMHO (see White Hawk's interpretation), this is more of a disadvantage than an advantage. They cannot be healed. They cannot be blessed, etc. They cannot be resurrected.
You can use Armageddon, but you can also fight against it.
