vampirism seems to be the best defense against mind control, if you're not against a necromancer. And light elves (a bit off-topic) don't really need protection from darkness in the late game - they just kill their enemies before their turn.

Dungeon is very weak in the late game.
Don't underestimate Dungeon either. At least, Dungeon can compete with demons on equal terms, and even have an advantage.
