I don't know if anyone mentioned this before (most likely they did), but Kalan has an obvious connection to Canada and Vancouver:

In particular, sea otters can be seen in the aquariums of Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Newport, Monterey, New York, Lisbon, Osaka, Antwerp, and other cities.
In the Vancouver Zoo, a northern sea otter began using stones to open shellfish on the third day after "interacting" with California sea otters.
But two things bother me: 1) It's a "choose one from many" scenario. 2) The clue is quite simple. The only difficulty is to correctly spell the word Vancouver from the given letters.
