Regarding the Grimheim dwarves - someone correctly said that it should have been done like in the "Invasion" mission for Markel - so that the dwarves would patrol a route instead of invading the castle.
Erling came to me with 13k Lava Dragons (!!!) on a Hero! I was completely shocked... I had to use a cheat to create 30k Archangels (my mod allows them to infinitely resurrect).
