I think that if a mafia group forms again, something needs to be done about the temptation to openly reveal information, and not just about checking roles. Using a "modkill" is an extreme measure that could ruin the game for the whole team because of one person. I have an idea about adding reserve roles to the set, in addition to the main roles (for example, 2 townies with no actions or with particularly useless actions, 2 mafia with regular kills, 1 weak maniac). If someone is exposed for violating the rules of the game, the GM, for the first time, replaces their role randomly with one of the reserve roles. This way, a townie who openly reveals the status of a mafia member could end up as a mafia member themselves.
