SECOND OFFLINE HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC I TOURNAMENT "NEIGHBORS"

TOURNAMENT RULES

1. To participate in the second offline tournament for Heroes of Might and Magic I "NEIGHBORS", you must register on our website www.heroesworld.ru, as well as submit an application in this thread.

P.S. This tournament is held as part of the general same-named Cunningham tournament, therefore all information, as well as its progress and results, will be displayed in that section.
Турнир имени Jov Van Caneghem-а на HeroesWorld

Note: final tournament results will also be available in the offline tournaments section for Heroes of Might and Magic I.

2. The tournament is played on the Russian version of Heroes of Might and Magic I from Buka. The save will be generated on Russian version 1.1.

3. The goal of the game is to defeat the enemy.
The submitted save must contain the tournament number (2), the participant's number in the application table, the abbreviation (C - NEIGHBORS) and the player's Nick.

Example:

2_1_C_VDV_forever.GM1
2_2_C_AlexeyPank.GM1

4. The result will be evaluated, first and foremost, by the minimum time.
If several players have an equal walkthrough time, the best will be determined by the sum of primary skills (attack, defense, magic, knowledge) INCLUDING EQUIPPED ARTIFACTS; if a favorite is still not determined, then by the amount of mercury.

5. Along with the submitted save, it is mandatory to provide a description of the final step (battle with a hero, battle for a castle, capturing an artifact, victory over the last monster) after which victory occurs, or the walkthrough of the scenario.

6. The submitted save must have only one conquering hero who performs the final action (others should simply be dismissed).

7. It is forbidden: to buy back your dismissed heroes on the same day (i.e., using the "dismissal-buyback" trick);
it is also forbidden to buy heroes who died in battle (not to be confused with those who fled)!

8. It is forbidden: to move a bought-back hero who fled/paid off in battle on the day they fled/paid off. Buying such a hero is allowed, but they can only be moved the following day;

9.It is forbidden: To dig up the Grail without fully uncovering the puzzle map.

10. It is forbidden: to use cheating programs, codes, as well as additional software that can change the game structure.

11. Send the save to the email address VDV_forever@BK.RU

12. In case of suspicion of cheating or other malicious intent during the map walkthrough, a save must be made every game day.
In such a case (detection of cheating), the player will be required to send additional saves and provide a description of the walkthrough to the tournament organizer to determine whether the play was unfair or honest.
The result of a player who played dishonestly will be voided, and their further participation in tournaments will be impossible. This will also reflect poorly on their reputation.

13. Discussion of the tournament during its progress is FORBIDDEN!!!
(Players who violate this rule automatically exclude themselves from playing the tournament; their results will not be counted and will be annulled).

14. The tournament starts on February 1 and lasts until February 28 (inclusive!). Results will be announced on March 3, 2007.

15. After receiving your save, you will see in the application table that:

save accepted - indicated by a bold Nick.
save counted - indicated by an italicized bold Nick.

This list may be expanded with new participants!
We invite everyone to take part in the tournament!

Saves will only be considered for players who are in this table, so submit your applications IN ADVANCE!!!

Everything about the starting save

Starting save
from 01.02.07 download
save:
map from which the save was generated:

1. Download the save.

2. The downloaded Save must be placed on your computer in the GAMES folder of the installed Heroes of Might and Magic I.

3. Load it and start playing at any time convenient for you, while remembering to make daily saves.

4. After reaching the final action (after which victory occurs), save again.

5. With the final save, describe this last step in detail (most likely a battle); then the results will be processed faster and there will be fewer suspicions of cheating!!!

6. A full description of the tournament map is encouraged (optional). If such descriptions are provided, a contest for the best description will be held; 10 of them (the very best) will take their place of honor in the "Hall of Fame" section!

7. Send this save to the specified address (in the rules of this tournament).

8. Wait for the results.

P.S. I wish all tournament participants a great time playing and, most importantly, VICTORY!

P.S.S. If there are any additions or comments, please do not hesitate to speak up to minimize disagreements and shortcomings in the same-named process of the tournament.
Sincerely, VDV_forever

Yeah, that's how it should be :) I stocked up on troops in my home castle. I ran to the neighboring castle. I dropped off the troops. I bought a NEW hero. I gave him the artifacts. I picked up the troops. I went further. What's wrong with that?
With this setup, the new hero won't have the spells from the first town! :smile08:

Hmm... It turns out there are experts here not only in Heroes 3 and Heroes 5... :)
I feel like it's going to be intense! :)

I actually think that Heroes 1 is the most "intense" (due to the factor of randomness).
And who knows such levels as:
-Two if by sea-
-Jolly Roger-
...and so on.
Set all the computers to genius level (and of course, King of the Hill) and... let's go! ... for the Havens! ... ;)
Who agrees with me? - (I'll suggest a couple of interesting "maps")

I played -Jolly Roger- in 1998, playing from the CD (without the ability to save).
It was intense!

A request to the organizers: Wouldn't it be possible to make the main post a link to a page with information?! I repeat: in order to speed up the internet and save traffic, I configured the forum to display 5 posts per page. And in this topic (as well as in BestOfZeBest), out of 5 posts, there is a huge first post and small (main) remaining ones.

I tend to think that this is not a bug, but a feature of the first Heroes!
That's what I was trying to say. And now, if a hero flees and, due to the restriction, loses the remaining part of his turn, what is that? A feature of what? Or did we get a new bug?

If I'm not mistaken, artifacts like the compass and boots work if the hero "spent the night" with them, whether in a castle or in the field.
Maybe that's the case - I haven't checked it yet. But it's not that important. There might not be boots and a compass on other maps. These are isolated cases.
The point is different.

And in the situation described and identified as a bug, the player won't have enough money to execute it, let alone complete the entire map in one turn.

I'm not arguing. I've stated my opinion. Personally, I don't care which bug I'm playing with – the main thing is that everyone follows the rules and there's appropriate verification.

Not yet, unfortunately. I think that in the future, such a feature (as you mentioned) will be applied to large, informative, first posts.

April 1st (no joke:) )

Perhaps, a mini-tournament will take place even earlier (as a test), in March;

IronAxe, are you by any chance a professional critic (in a good sense of the word)? We already know that you are a professional player;).
The most important thing is that the players themselves do not use this bug, in any case, on this map it is not so difficult to check the honesty of a player who completed it in a short time (in game days)... For a long time, unfortunately, it is more difficult, but I think it is possible...

What a nuisance!

For the second Friday in a row, I've been playing all night, and finally, I passed it on my second attempt, improving my result!...:), but that's not all!

After skipping a turn, the last, nasty AI attacks and loses, and I'm shown a screen with the next day, i.e., the number of days passed actually (+1 day per AI turn, even though my turn hasn't come yet)! How cool:mad:.

I'll have to sit up all night on Saturday to defeat the AI on the same day, without skipping a turn!:smile17:

After skipping a turn, the last evil computer opponent attacks and loses, and I am shown a table with the next day, i.e., the number of days passed actually (+1 day per computer turn, even though my turn hasn't arrived yet)!
So, in fact, it turns out that it's not worth trying to save time this way... too bad...
But :smile53: there's also a positive side to this! By replaying, you might be able to improve the result even more!

The most frustrating thing is that my hero was just ONE step away from achieving a decent result and defeating the opponent on the same day without missing a turn. But in the end... a table-based quirk in the form of an extra turn given to the computer...
With respect, VDV_forever
A tricky situation :) It seems the program considers winning on your turn to be a "clean victory," while winning during the turn transition is not a "clean victory." Therefore, it ends the turn transition, considering that the turn has been given to you. And only then does it check that there is no one else on the map :) And it awards you the victory on that day. So, either that's how it's supposed to work, or it's some kind of glitch.

Regarding the VDV, the situation with the attack on the Castle was discussed during the first tournament I held for the 2-player mode. Also, a pop-up window appeared... but that was a case where I considered my judgment to be superior to the computer's. That is, the day that was in the final save became the result. Because I didn't see the day that was written in the pop-up window, so it didn't exist for me.

VDV, the situation with attacking the Castle was discussed when I conducted the first Tournaments for the 2nd game. A pop-up table also appeared... but that was a case where I considered my judging to be superior to the computer's. That is, whichever day it was on the final day became the result. After all, I didn't see the day specified in the table; therefore, it doesn't exist.

That's one way to do it. But it seems to me that in this case we are exploiting flaws in the computer player's intelligence; a human player would not have attacked in this instance, but would have retreated or gone for another Fortress. In principle, we exploit flaws in the computer intelligence throughout the entire game :) But there is also something interesting I want to find out from VDV, as it seems this situation has only happened to him so far. Tell me, if you load a save, does the computer player always attack in your case during the turn transition—in other words, does he repeat 100% the same actions on that turn? Yes?
