SECOND OFFLINE HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC I TOURNAMENT "NEIGHBORS"

TOURNAMENT RULES

1. To participate in the second offline tournament for Heroes of Might and Magic I "NEIGHBORS", you must register on our website www.heroesworld.ru, as well as submit an application in this thread.

P.S. This tournament is held as part of the general same-named Cunningham tournament, therefore all information, as well as its progress and results, will be displayed in that section.
Турнир имени Jov Van Caneghem-а на HeroesWorld

Note: final tournament results will also be available in the offline tournaments section for Heroes of Might and Magic I.

2. The tournament is played on the Russian version of Heroes of Might and Magic I from Buka. The save will be generated on Russian version 1.1.

3. The goal of the game is to defeat the enemy.
The submitted save must contain the tournament number (2), the participant's number in the application table, the abbreviation (C - NEIGHBORS) and the player's Nick.

Example:

2_1_C_VDV_forever.GM1
2_2_C_AlexeyPank.GM1

4. The result will be evaluated, first and foremost, by the minimum time.
If several players have an equal walkthrough time, the best will be determined by the sum of primary skills (attack, defense, magic, knowledge) INCLUDING EQUIPPED ARTIFACTS; if a favorite is still not determined, then by the amount of mercury.

5. Along with the submitted save, it is mandatory to provide a description of the final step (battle with a hero, battle for a castle, capturing an artifact, victory over the last monster) after which victory occurs, or the walkthrough of the scenario.

6. The submitted save must have only one conquering hero who performs the final action (others should simply be dismissed).

7. It is forbidden: to buy back your dismissed heroes on the same day (i.e., using the "dismissal-buyback" trick);
it is also forbidden to buy heroes who died in battle (not to be confused with those who fled)!

8. It is forbidden: to move a bought-back hero who fled/paid off in battle on the day they fled/paid off. Buying such a hero is allowed, but they can only be moved the following day;

9.It is forbidden: To dig up the Grail without fully uncovering the puzzle map.

10. It is forbidden: to use cheating programs, codes, as well as additional software that can change the game structure.

11. Send the save to the email address VDV_forever@BK.RU

12. In case of suspicion of cheating or other malicious intent during the map walkthrough, a save must be made every game day.
In such a case (detection of cheating), the player will be required to send additional saves and provide a description of the walkthrough to the tournament organizer to determine whether the play was unfair or honest.
The result of a player who played dishonestly will be voided, and their further participation in tournaments will be impossible. This will also reflect poorly on their reputation.

13. Discussion of the tournament during its progress is FORBIDDEN!!!
(Players who violate this rule automatically exclude themselves from playing the tournament; their results will not be counted and will be annulled).

14. The tournament starts on February 1 and lasts until February 28 (inclusive!). Results will be announced on March 3, 2007.

15. After receiving your save, you will see in the application table that:

save accepted - indicated by a bold Nick.
save counted - indicated by an italicized bold Nick.

This list may be expanded with new participants!
We invite everyone to take part in the tournament!

Saves will only be considered for players who are in this table, so submit your applications IN ADVANCE!!!

Everything about the starting save

Starting save
from 01.02.07 download
save:
map from which the save was generated:

1. Download the save.

2. The downloaded Save must be placed on your computer in the GAMES folder of the installed Heroes of Might and Magic I.

3. Load it and start playing at any time convenient for you, while remembering to make daily saves.

4. After reaching the final action (after which victory occurs), save again.

5. With the final save, describe this last step in detail (most likely a battle); then the results will be processed faster and there will be fewer suspicions of cheating!!!

6. A full description of the tournament map is encouraged (optional). If such descriptions are provided, a contest for the best description will be held; 10 of them (the very best) will take their place of honor in the "Hall of Fame" section!

7. Send this save to the specified address (in the rules of this tournament).

8. Wait for the results.

P.S. I wish all tournament participants a great time playing and, most importantly, VICTORY!

P.S.S. If there are any additions or comments, please do not hesitate to speak up to minimize disagreements and shortcomings in the same-named process of the tournament.

Generally speaking, I don't know how the check of all players is carried out. I think that the first 3 players (or maybe 5-10, depending on the number of participants) are checked more carefully. No one will check all the players. But ultimately, having daily saves, you can check almost everything.
A good check is a check based on the description, including a walkthrough of all battles. And I wanted to say that the more restrictions there are, the more difficult the check becomes. In general, what is currently prohibited is unlikely to be a bug, especially in Heroes 1. It all comes down to money. If, let's say, there is a lot of money, then even with this restriction, you can clear the entire area around the fortresses. Heroes are sold with troops, and you can buy as many as you want. The fact that they are not "pumped up" is compensated by the fact that you can transfer troops from each of them to the fortress and then simply dismiss the heroes. Another hero appears in their place. If you use them, you need to run away. You can buy back the ones who ran away. They cannot be used to travel. We dismiss him, and he will no longer be used for travel. Another one will be in his place. Since we assumed that there is a lot of money, this cycle can go around again, but the player himself will no longer remember who he dismissed and that he should not be bought. The checker will get tired of checking even more. This is what Zingel probably wanted to say. That is, the situation described above is actually legal and differs from the ban only in that you need even more money than if you could buy and use the same hero. Okay, according to the rules, let's take this ban into account :) In fact, this ban simply prevents the quick transfer of a specific hero to the desired location. Or rather, it is still allowed, but with a delay of one turn, which simply complicates the check of saves. That is, it is necessary to check at least the first three places in all saves of the walkthrough to determine whether this ban is being followed, at least by the leaders of the tournament.

By the way, please forgive me for this slight off-topic... But didn't heroes reappear in the tavern after being "dismissed" in the first game?
The first Heroes game is the most "random" in every aspect. Even daily saves don't always help to understand where something came from. (see IronAxe's post). However, I personally don't know of any codes (except for revealing the map) or programs that allow cheating in the first Heroes game. Maybe we should make the following rule: it's forbidden to use a redeemed hero who escaped on the same day.
Here. :)

Maybe we should implement the following ban: it shouldn't be allowed to use a redeemed, escaped hero on the same day.
Check the tournament rules:
8. It is forbidden: to use a redeemed, escaped/ransomed hero in the battle on the day they escaped/were ransomed. Buying such a hero is allowed, but they can only be used on the next day;
Read the documentation, it's the rule! :D

That's great, the other restrictions regarding buying heroes are, in my opinion, unnecessary. :)

I have a question – how will you check ALL players to ensure they comply with this prohibition? Otherwise, I'm not against it – after some clarifications, everything is clear.

Leave that to me;) . Although, it's a very complex procedure, but it's quite solvable;) .

But still, I rely on the honesty of the players themselves!
I don't think anyone of us will go down the wrong (prohibited) path!

A good test would be to check if the description matches the walkthrough of all battles. And I wanted to say that the more restrictions there are, the harder the test becomes. Basically, what is currently prohibited is unlikely to be a bug, especially in Heroes 1. It all comes down to money. If, let's say, we assume that there is a lot of money, then even with this restriction, you can clear the entire area around the Fortresses. We dismiss him, and he will no longer roam around. Another one will appear in his place. Since we assumed that there is a lot of money, this cycle can go around again, but the player already forgets who he dismissed and that you cannot buy him. The person checking will get tired of checking even more. That's what I think Zingel wanted to say. That is, the situation described above is quite legitimate and differs from the ban only in that you need even more money than if you could buy and use the same hero. Or rather, it is allowed, but with a delay of one turn, which simply complicates the check of the saves. That is, it is necessary to check at least the first three places in all the saves of the walkthrough to determine whether this ban is being followed, at least by the leaders of the tournament.

After the tournament, using an example (for the third time), I will explain that this is EXACTLY a BUG in HEROES 1! Which, by the way, has been successfully fixed in other parts...

After the tournament, I will explain again (for the third time) that this is indeed a bug in Heroes 1! Which, by the way, has been successfully fixed in other installments...
Sincerely, VDV_forever
I don't need you to explain it to me for the third time; I understand what you call a bug and why it was banned.

Here's the situation in Heroes 3. A hero has one action point left, attacks, and retreats. On the same day, the player buys a new hero but cannot move him because the hero's action points are depleted. Everything is normal.
The same situation in Heroes 1. The player buys a new hero on the same day and can move him for a full turn. You say this is a bug and ban it. Okay.
Situation in Heroes 3. The hero has a full turn. He spends one action point, attacks, and retreats. On the same day, the player buys a new hero and moves him for the remaining action points (minus one). Everything is normal.
The same situation in Heroes 1. The player retreats with a hero who has almost a full turn left. But due to the ban, he cannot use it. How is this different? Instead of one bug, we now have another, as can be seen by comparing it to Heroes 3.

But here's the difference. Everyone knows about the bug that you told everyone about, and if it's not banned, everyone can use it without fear of any checks – everyone is on equal footing and limited only by the money earned in the game.
The ban is more complicated. Here, we rely on honesty, and a check is needed to detect violations of the ban. It's harder to guarantee 100% equal conditions.

If we say that honesty and checks are 100% guaranteed, then why not make it so that players in Heroes 1 simply count the green arrows of the hero who is about to retreat? Then, on the same day, he can move with that hero, but not for a full turn, but for as many action points as he has left. Since there are no doubts about honesty or checks, what's the problem? This way, we completely eliminate the bug, and the retreat and buy-back situation will work exactly as it does in Heroes 3.

I'm not going to break the rules and will play according to the rules set by the tournament organizer. I'm just expressing my personal opinion about this bug and the ban. If I made any mistakes in the examples I provided, please correct me; maybe I misunderstood something?

The ban is more complicated. Here, we are already relying on honesty, and a check is needed regarding violations of the ban. It is more difficult to guarantee 100% equal conditions here.
If we say no, and honesty and checks are 100% guaranteed, then why not make it so that players in Heroes 1 simply count the green arrows of the hero who is about to run away. And then, on the same day, he can move with that hero, but not for a full turn, but for as much as he has left of his turn. Since there are no doubts about honesty or checks, what is the problem? In this way, we completely eliminate the bug, and the situation with running away and ransom will be handled exactly as it is in Heroes 3.
You are wrong about the green arrows. Movement points in Heroes are not counted by arrows. But that's not important.
In this tournament, a ban was introduced on moving the redeemed, runaway hero on the same day. And this is correct and not up for discussion. The logic is simple: it is on this map that there are boots and a compass. When playing with a "fast" hero (I won't specify, those who know, know) with such artifacts, you can get to any point on the map in one day (taking into account running away and redeeming him again).

A small example: Stocked up on troops in your home castle. Ran to the neighboring castle. Dropped off the troops. Fired the hero. Bought him again. Picked up the troops. Went further.

You are wrong about the green arrows. Movement points in Heroes are not calculated based on the arrows. But that's not important.
Exactly - the main thing is that the judge can verify it, at least by looking at the arrows.
Zingel;66478

In this tournament, they banned moving a hero on the same day he was bought back after escaping. And that's right and not up for discussion. But
I completely agree with you. I just don't understand why one bug is better than another?
Zingel;66478

The logic is simple: this map is the only one with Boots and a Compass. When playing with a "fast" hero (I won't specify, those who know, know) with these artifacts, you can reach any point on the map in one day (taking into account the escape and buying him back).
Yeah, what can we do? :) But on this map, there's something else even better than a Compass. :)
Zingel;66478

A small example: You stock up on troops in your home castle. You run to the neighboring castle. You drop off the troops. You fire the hero. You buy him back. You pick up the troops. You go further.
Exactly! You stock up on troops in your home castle. You run to the neighboring castle. You drop off the troops. You buy a NEW hero. You give him the artifacts. You pick up the troops. You go further. What's wrong with that?

I tend to think that this is not a bug, but a feature of the first Heroes!
IronAxe;66582

Well, what can we do? :) But on this map, there is something else even cooler than the compass. :)
There you go! :) I stocked up on troops in my home castle. I ran to the neighboring castle. I dropped off the troops. I bought a NEW hero. I gave him the artifacts. I took back the troops. I went on. How is that worse?
Hmm... It turns out there are experts here not only in Heroes III and Heroes V... :)
I feel like it's going to be intense! :)

Yeah, that's how it's done :) I stocked up on troops in my home castle. Ran to the neighboring castle. Dropped off the troops. Bought a NEW hero. Gave him the artifacts. Picked up the troops. Went further. What's wrong with that?

If I'm not mistaken, artifacts like the compass and boots work if the hero "spent the night" with them, whether in a castle or in the field.
