I have a Core 2 Duo, overclocked to 4.5 GHz.
Kingston DIMM DDR 2 677 MHz RAM - 2 GB.
GeForce 7600 GS 512 DDR3 video card... everything runs great, no matter what I install. The only problem is that I have no internet at home, and at work I have:
Pentium D915 - 3000 MHz
The same RAM as at home, but only 1 GB, and a Radeon X1600Pro 256 MB video card.

By the way, don't think I'm bragging; I just saved up for this computer for six months.

With such specs, what problems could there be? But the lack of internet is a drawback. Tell your parents that buying an expensive computer without the necessary components won't make you happy. Bribe them into getting an ADSL modem and setting up an unlimited connection; it's a great thing to have.

We've already thought about it. In another month, I'll have internet not only at work but also at home. The market is such that everything new and the latest costs much more than it's worth, so it's better to buy hardware that's not the absolute latest but is still quite good, from 2-3 months ago. You'll save a lot, and in a few months, both your current computer and the one you wanted to buy, i.e., the "latest" hardware, will be equally outdated. That's it.

He'll manage, and he'll probably have to sell it for twice as little. A system administrator who doesn't have internet at home – that's just ridiculous, isn't it? Are you that bored? Why would you want to cut off the connection? It seems like you're freeing up resources. In a city of a million people like Chelyabinsk, there's no internet? You must not know your city very well. Sorry, I live not far from Chelyabinsk, and I came here from Kamchatka. But I haven't seen any problems with high-speed internet anywhere.
And besides, if you're rarely at home and only there to sleep, what do you need such a powerful computer for?

It runs, but it lags terribly, even if I turn everything down
and set the resolution to 640x480.

I have a suspicion that if I add another 512 MB of RAM, something might change? I just can't play with these lags.
