It is necessary to eliminate punishments for all sorts of off-topic discussions, trolling, and even insults. That's what the moderators of each section are for – to edit or delete messages containing such behavior.

Off-topic posts and flooding – it’s possible that no one even gives points for that anyway. However, I think the penalties for trolling, insults, and spam (specifically spam in the sense of advertising, not links related to the discussion topic) could be made stricter.

In general, the current situation is that each moderator and coordinator implements their own policy within their respective sections and makes decisions at their own discretion: sometimes it's enough to simply make a comment to a user, and sometimes it's appropriate to issue penalty points. And I think that's the right approach. For example, in Heroes of Might and Magic VI, the moderation (in my opinion) is quite lenient.

I agree with Dubrovin Pavel that we need more freedom, because you are essentially oppressing users. You act like overseers, I swear. You feel like you're walking on eggshells on Volde, as if 35% of your post might be flagged as something bad. On a neighboring resource, despite its time-tested conservatism, you don't feel any discomfort even if you argue very strongly with someone.

Amko is right; for minor infractions like flooding and off-topic posts, points are usually not awarded anyway. But it makes sense to keep the article, as there are all sorts of users: sometimes you issue a warning, but the flooding continues. What should be done in this case?
Regarding Thundax's post: discomfort is, of course, a valid concern, but it's important to understand that in addition to the two users engrossed in a debate, there are other users on the forum. In most cases, they are not at all interested in the views of two forum members on the philosophy of Freud in a thread about some tournament. Such a discussion clutters the thread with useless information from the point of view of the topic and makes it difficult to find the necessary information, so canceling moderation for flooding and off-topic posts is clearly not the best measure. By the way, it should be added that there is a dedicated "flooding" section on the forum, and in the Heroes III section, there is also a "tribune." If you want to talk about all sorts of nonsense, move there; what's the problem?

You can't reach them with a fly swatter, and you can't hit them with your fist - so the only option is to ban them (even without amnesty). What to do with the rest - let them learn to communicate, filter their language - this comes with time, so you can be more lenient with them, give them amnesty, etc. But if they don't learn over time, then treat them like a repeat offender - give them the full treatment.
