Posts from “Russian translators” or “This is how translations are done!”Auto-translated
Well, you’ve probably encountered computer pirates (or rather, the results of their activities) – if not every third person, then at least every fifth person has.
But the topic isn’t about pirates (otherwise, I’d get a lot of flak), but about the funny things that happen during the pirating process.
For example, just yesterday, while walking around the city, I went into a game store. And I saw – on the shelf, side by side, were two games (pirated copies, they told me right away) – “Fallout 2” and “Fallout Tactics” (the spelling of the titles is preserved...).
Has anyone else seen anything like that – funny translations, or their COMPLETE ABSENCE in the game (meaning, “I understand your meaning” is there, but there’s
"Мы не герои. Мы сильны. Мы упрямы. Мы стараемся соблюдать условия контракта. Но мы не умираем за проигравших." Костоправ
"Мы не поклонники честной игры, если ее можно избежать. Девиз Отряда – максимальная эффективность при минимальном риске." Костоправ
I found a label on a disc, marked with a black marker, stating that if you see this label, the disc is a pirated copy and should not be used! And on another disc, such a label was covered with a hologram!))))))))
From my own experience:
I bought "Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne," and the label said it was "completely in Russian." I got it home, installed it, and started playing... Well, if a first mission of the first campaign (Night Elves) translated about a quarter of the way (using a translation program) is considered "completely" translated, then what is "partially" translated?

??? area 51??? What is that? As for licenses... It's equally affordable for us to buy a pirated copy or a licensed one. Both cost 30 hryvnias. Let's continue. Pirates profit by selling mods disguised as new games. But to ruin even that!!! The translation (on the cover) is "command and conquer: Project Predator." What kind of game is this???

Command & Conquer: Generals. Project Raptor. An awesome game!!! A real masterpiece. I love it.
This is actually a freeware mod! Cheapskates:) Tengro Area 51 is a shooter, but not a very good one in terms of graphics. But the main character was voiced by the guy who played Mulder in X-Files!:)
Regarding pirates: Again, C&C. I see: Red Alert 3! I was a little surprised. But it turns out it's Yuri's Revenge. I don't want to remember about Diablo (c) and Star Wars.

Yes, yes, it's a shame, but it's even scary to put such things on your favorite computer. But my friends and I always take one disc for 4 people, but it's a licensed copy!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, there's one downside... when the game has StarForce, you have to wait in line.....
In ancient times, before Xyn was destroyed, when King Gryphonheart was alive and well, and Sandro didn't even know the meaning of the word "Death Shadow," there lived pirates.
The pirates had two secret lairs called "Mitinka" and "Gorbushka." They attacked trade caravans from the West and then sold the goods at inflated prices right in their lair. But suddenly, the pirates realized that if the goods were in Russian, they would sell even more. Centuries later, the royal archmages of Order invented the "localization" spell, which killed many pirates and burned their goods.
But since the pirates were lazy and semi-literate, they translated the games into Russian in some unknown place. Well, it's known, but I don't want to mention the name of that organization. In those harsh times, it was almost impossible to get an ENGLISH version, and the "Russian versions" (in quotation marks) instilled fear in anyone who even vaguely followed the plot. It was then that I bought "Heroes 2: Price of Loyalty" from the pirates. Of course, it was in "Russian."
In general, this is the funniest game translation I have ever seen. It was translated by who knows what and in what state. It's clear that it wasn't translated by just one "Stylus." There's an attempt to give the translation some literary quality. And, apparently, the "translators" attracted a couple of stoned punks or someone like that as experts.
Below, I present the "translation" of the unit names. You can't look at it without tears.

In general, I still enjoy this "translation." It's a pity that I can't convey HOW the plot of the campaigns is translated and HOW the names of the heroes are distorted.
. In those harsh times, getting the ENGLISH version was practically impossible, and the "Russian versions" (//specifically in quotes//) inspired horror in anyone who followed the plot even slightly.
I'll take the liberty of disagreeing with this statement. Pirates very often made 2-in-1 versions, meaning both English and Russian, although the Russian one was half-filled with English fonts. But those who played the English ones didn't care about that. Moreover, many pirates, wishing to beat their competitors, released the English version a couple of weeks earlier than others released the translated one (most of my games are indeed English)... So getting the original was much easier than it is now in the era of localizations. Because now the only option for games that have been localized is to order them from online stores at Western prices.
Тьма - это то, что позволяет смертным не забывать, как ярок бывает свет.
The thing is, 2-in-1 versions didn't appear right away and weren't made for all games. I remember having to spend half a day to find an English version of Starcraft. English pirated copies did exist, but their circulation was small compared to the "Russian" versions, and therefore they were quickly bought up from the shelves within a week.
