Shadow of Death (SoD) uses the same Heroes3.exe as Restoration of Erathia, so it works fine using "Heroes of Might & Magic III". Armageddon's Blade is only separate because it uses a different: H3Blade.exe.

GameRanger shows all the games together, and you can filter which ones are displayed. Most people like this method more because it is more flexible. There are general chat lobbies, but they are not attached to the games. When anyone opens a game room, you and everyone else that has Heroes 3 will automatically be notified with a balloon / tool-tip from the system tray icon. Or you can have it so it only notifies you when a friend opens a game room.

It makes a big difference to organising and setting up the game in the first place. Particularly on IGZ where new players have connection problems with routers and have to go back to the lobby and try again.

Go into IGZ and look at Midtown Madness 2, Microsoft Ants, Rainbow 6, etc. There are no ratings for those games. Heroes 3 would be the same on IGZ.

Ratings are supported in the Age of Empires series because Ensemble Studios worked closely with Microsoft back when Zone.com started, using some special features of DirectPlay. (Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Clone Campaigns also have ratings because they use the Age of Empires II engine).

The other games do not support this.

That might be a translation / language problem. I said the IGZ *client* (the IGZ program itself) is slow and laggy, not the network games played with it. IGZ users and IGZ developers agree and also admit this is true.

Once you are actually playing the game using IGZ, the game is not slower, but that is not what I was talking about.

ToH ratings are not automatic. You have to manually report your win or your loss using a web form. Example: www.toheroes.com/win04.asp and www.toheroes.com/loss04.asp

Well, if you believe that, sure. They promised it would be released in January, but no still sign of it. They did not update IGZ for over a year, and only started promising a new client two days after GameRanger was released back in November 2008. :)

If you don't believe me, you can ask some of the ex-mods of IGZ that it's true. I have always been completely truthful.

GameRanger is a real solution right now. If you want to hope for IGZ, that's fine with me, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting. :)

Decided to try out GameRanger. It turned out to be pretty cool.:D There were no problems with the installation, and when I was ready to play, I joined a room. The game launched quickly, and there were no connection issues. We agreed to play with random settings and no restrictions on the rules. My opponent was the host, and in my Russian version 4.0, the fonts didn't get messed up (as they usually do in the expansion pack) - that's great. The game itself took about 40 minutes and went like this: Pit for LM (blue, random Rampart, random Jeddite, Sir Mullich) def. Lazybird (red, random Stronghold, random Kairin, Kairin), Dragons, 121. On turn 111, my opponent was surprised that he didn't get Conflux - but he said it was okay and that he would play anyway. The map had a lot of towns, and there were no guards anywhere. By turn 117, I had 6 towns, and I had built psychics in the fortress, plus two towers with groups of gremlins. On turn 121, Mullich reached my opponent's town through a portal (as the save analysis showed, he had 2 heroes at that time) and captured his tower with the citadel and the unbought troops. Kairin was standing nearby with dwarves and a horde of centaurs. Since my opponent was building up his economy in the first week, he didn't have enough troops to fight, and he ran away without even thanking me for the game. I couldn't find an automatic rating, and I'm not even sure what I need to do to get the game recorded somewhere. And my opponent disappeared, so it will be difficult to find him to confirm the report:). So, it's unlikely that we'll be able to find cool opponents there or simplify the rating calculation, but it can definitely be used as an alternative to Hamachi. The connection was excellent, and it's easy to download - it's only about 100 KB. Although, it's possible that for those who don't have an external IP, it won't look so good.

Synchronization with the opponent(s) after some practice is easily achieved. In fact, you can play on two fronts in the same amount of time. Of course, if you are playing with different opponents, it is desirable to warn them so that they don't rush the fast forward. I've tried it! I recommend it!:smile54:
