I respect anime as a genre (except for Shaman King and similar ones). There are several that I really like.
What I don't like in anime (though not so much in the anime itself) is the tendency of some fans to overanalyze and search for hidden meanings in certain series. Elfen Lied definitely leads in this regard (especially among pretentious teenagers).

And what is the anime itself guilty of?:) It's the fans. I don't like fanaticism. Regarding the main subject of discussion, I'll argue - Evangelion is a perfectly worthy competitor to EL in this regard.

EL is only guilty of being a mediocre series, filled with nonsensical moments and blatant clichés, relying mostly on dark themes, like gore. Only someone who is completely obsessed with anime, or a teenager who hasn't yet recovered from heartbreaking stories in the style of "all people are jerks, how sad for the horned mutants," would seriously try to find a deeper meaning in it. "Evangelion" wins with its very good plot, characters (the two main characters, Asuka and Shinji, are far from being my favorites), and atmosphere. But, undoubtedly, fan fiction based on "Evangelion" is a very common phenomenon and sometimes as widespread as fan fiction based on EL. The most frequently touched upon fan fiction themes are Shinji's introspection and (also common) his subtle and complex relationship with Kaoru Nagisa (as well as Kaoru himself). I don't really like Shinji's lengthy emotional breakdowns, and Kaoru Nagisa is just nonsense, which, unlike introspection (which is still an important part of "Eva" and can be tolerated, and both endings of the series that follow from it turned out well), should be sent to a bioreactor equipped with an anti-AT field. Fan fiction on the theme of Shinji's self-analysis (there is no deeper meaning in them than the quite complete one that lies on the surface) and characters like Kaoru Nagisa is, of course, also epic, but it won't surpass EL.

I didn't really like Anime before, I even thought it was just a childish entertainment, but then I decided to try it – and I liked it :) I think Anime is a good way to spend time. :)

What I don't like in Anime (although not so much in it) is the "Syndrome of Searching for Deep Meaning" among fans of some series. Elfen Lied definitely leads in this regard (especially among pretentious teenagers).

I think good Anime exists (at least, I liked it).. :)

I didn't know there was such a syndrome as "Searching for Deeper Meaning in Anime." Personally, I don't look for meaning; I just see whether it exists or not. In Elven Song, it was there (maybe not philosophical), and the action was also great. As for Evangelion, I watched two full-length movies; one was a compilation of scenes from the series (for those who don't want to watch the whole series), and the second was an alternative ending. I give Elven Song a higher rating overall. The full-length movie felt overwhelming, even though I can't pinpoint exactly why (probably too much unnecessary information), but it did. And the second thing I didn't like was the strong emphasis on religion. That's my opinion...

P.S. The average Japanese person will find philosophical meaning in a simple stone.

I also prefer EL over Eva, because Eva is quite confusing, especially the ending.

The ending in Evangelion isn't confusing. You just need to think about it and, ideally, rewatch the series. This method helped me. By the way, "End" isn't an alternative storyline at all. It simply shows the same events from a different perspective. And the original ending concludes during the Complemention (in "End," the original episodes 25 and 26 are almost entirely replaced by a fast-paced montage of Shinji's memories).
