Posts from Heroes of Might and Magic V [Game Discussion]
Someone mentioned why there aren't dwarves or centaurs in the Elven Castle. I don't know about centaurs, but as for dwarves, the answer seems obvious to me: dwarves have never been particularly friendly with elves, so that's clear. The requirements seem a bit strange.
Nothing is known about dwarves, except that there are dwarven artifacts.
It was mentioned that there are some wolves in Sylvan, but it seems to be just rumors.

Who told you that Heroes 4 was a failure? There's nothing to discuss – the voting on this very site is a clear example, where even Warlords received more votes than Heroes 4. The sales of Heroes 4 barely covered the development costs – Disciples 2, for example, sold almost three times as well, and rightfully so, since many of the ideas from that game were borrowed for Heroes 4.
Beautiful maps? With castles made from the same template? Or the castle siege? – I haven't seen anything more visually unappealing. The only thing that was beautiful was the hero portraits, but that's more of a credit to the previous installment. And if everything was so great, why didn't more people (1.23 million "killed raccoons") pay for it? If you say that's a lot for Heroes, then, for example, 20 million was paid for the Civilization brand. Why? Because after Heroes 4, investing money in the series was very risky. Did anyone think while playing Heroes 3 that the series would decline to such a state? And is that, in your opinion, success?:D. And nowadays, many people play it simply because there are no alternatives in the genre.
And there's no need to bring Heroes 2 or 3 into this – those games were genuinely made with passion, while Heroes 4 was made with a bank account in mind, which led to the downfall of 3DO. What you say about the graphics, as Katrine rightly pointed out, is purely a personal opinion, and it doesn't add weight to your arguments (especially since you haven't seen the beta). You're relying solely on personal emotions, while I'm providing FACTS, and that's a big difference... and regarding broadening your horizons, that's just plain rudeness, and I won't stoop to that level.
Dear Katrine,
There's one point: Nival doesn't NEED an open beta. Not for balancing, not for bug fixing... it's absolutely UNNECESSARY. And their attitude towards testers and the open beta is accordingly – they simply released it to get them off their backs, which is obvious. Yes, they said that the work is finished and they're polishing the balance, but who said they're polishing this build? Think logically – if you release the final build, any pirate will find it somewhere (specifically in the closed beta) and organize the release of Heroes of Might and Magic 5, and they can even remove the "beta" prefix since the game is technically almost finished, and people will buy it. After the release of Heroes 5, they simply add maps and map editors and the game "find ten differences from the original for $49.99" begins, and without StarForce. And who do you think will win this game, Nival or the pirates? I'm sure you know the answer. And Nival, I repeat, I'm not defending – I'm only saying what I know for sure.
Regarding the balance, I basically agree with you – it needs to be worked on – but I don't think it's so critical that it can't be fixed... As for Heroes 4, I know that it was profitable (since it simply rode on the brand's popularity), but it was incredibly far from the profits of, say, Heroes 3 – and as an economist, please explain to me: why did 3DO have such huge holes in its budget that even the super-profits of Heroes 4 couldn't save it?
Katrine's experience in the beta is concerning: "And what if I clear the entire map in one turn using 20 gargoyles? Fireball, and that's it. And it's like that every time."
P.S. By the way, I'm also an economist... and the fact described by Katrine doesn't surprise me at all... there are many similar cases in economics where super-profits are spent wastefully and uselessly... I won't be surprised about 3DO either... it's all a matter of management - maybe they made unsuccessful investments that didn't pay off at all... And game development is such a risky business in general, where huge assets can disappear down the drain, and there is no return... So, gentlemen economists, that's life, and what has happened is a fact... 3DO had a normal profit, but they just couldn't manage it properly... Unlike Ubisoft - they bought the brand cheaply and are now making a lot of money from it (at our expense, by the way ;) ) - the question is only whether this will be a one-time profit or whether they will be able to extend the financial flows over time? I think (considering the current state of HOMM & Dark Messiah) it will be the former....
how experienced people in this field do it
Although Katrine's experience in the beta is worrying: "And with 20 gargoyles, I cleared the entire map using only one turn. Fireball, and that's it. And so on."

ps. I can only hope and believe that the outdated creature models are just for this beta.
Guys, forget about balance!!! Look at the creatures. As if Archangels and Matrons weren't enough, now we have pterodactyl-phoenixes and Lego-knights piling on. I see this as an attack on the most iconic creatures in Heroes. All that's left is to dress up devils and dragons in masquerade costumes, and the disaster will be complete. I don't want to and won't play with such pathetic creatures. Couldn't they have... Ugh! I'm so angry:(
ps Let's hope and believe that the outdated creature designs are just for this beta.
P.s. Who is Rakshasa Rani? She looks like a mix of a naga and a manticore:D
P.s. Who is Rakshasa Rani? It looks like a mix of a Naga and a Manticore:D
An eastern deity that is more powerful than both djinns and ifrits. True, it doesn't have four arms.
But it's different, for example, in Heroes III, it's found in the Conflux castle. I have a fire element, so I can get a Rakshasa.
According to the official website, the city building interface in Heroes of Might and Magic 5 will be different in the release version; this was changed after the beta test. The construction style now resembles that of Heroes III more closely.
