I can't say my english is good, but, i think, i can speak with English people rather free and fluently.

Not great. I won't be able to read every text.

Well, almost all my english came from books, films, e.t.c. So I can speak english almost absolutly free, but the easiest things can stuck me...:)

I'm like an English dog, I understand almost everything, but can't say just a word :(

I studied German in school, so I'm not very good at English, but with a dictionary and a lot of effort, I can translate something.

I can honestly say that my English is quite good. I watch South Park in its original language, play English versions of games, read English-language forums and websites, and have even read entire books a couple of times. I can easily communicate with foreigners on Skype, and, my personal favorite achievement, I have a good grasp of American slang. Well, its equivalent, anyway. How many subtypes are there? Several, one of them being gangster slang. When I was in 5th grade and we were learning English, I was almost completely clueless. I didn't understand the teacher; maybe he wasn't explaining things well. I couldn't string a single sentence together. I alternated between getting 2s and 3s, with the occasional 5 for vocabulary dictations, which were the only thing that saved me. But then, one day before summer vacation, I opened the textbook, carefully read about tenses, conjugations, and so on, and started to excel. Now, on Instagram, I'm always amused by how some people sit there, reading words syllable by syllable and not being able to translate, despite their "school knowledge." But I find the material easy to grasp. Perhaps I could improve further now only if I went to an English-speaking country, as chatting and reading texts online don't offer much more at this point.

It all depends on the level and subject matter of the text. I'm not very good at literary texts, but I have some knowledge. I'm not good at legal, economic, and other specialized texts. I understand general conversational and everyday language, and I can communicate, but it's still not great; I have to figure things out – I understand intuitively. My grammar is moderately poor. Slang is a complete mystery. Overall, I think I know the language rather poorly. :(
But a dictionary works wonders... :)

Well, my English is good enough to watch a movie (in English, of course) and more or less understand the plot. Although, of course, it all depends... if the movie has a deep meaning, it will take me a while to understand it. =)

My English isn't great. I didn't study it in school. I didn't have time; I was drinking vodka and stuff. In 11th grade, I met an English-speaking girl. I really liked her, so I had to learn, so I wouldn't have to communicate with gestures. The motivation was incredible! I read Hemingway in the original and so on. At university, I got an automatic "good" grade, and that was only because I didn't go to classes. Apparently, so the others wouldn't feel bad.

I can string together a few words in English, and I can sing along to ABBA and Arabesque (and in the latter case, I learned the songs by ear). I almost always translated texts from scratch in school. I don't understand spoken English very well – I couldn't stand South Park at all, and I could only pick out words from phrases with Russian subtitles. Sometimes I have fun trying to translate random phrases from Russian to English. I can't translate some phrases in texts because I think, "What's the point of translating this, it's already clear without translation." I often get confused with all the tenses, and I hate prepositions and articles. So, overall, I can have a little chat with a foreigner, and they can even understand me, but I still know very little.

I have a very hard time understanding spoken language, especially in songs. My vocabulary is limited. People say that the language barrier disappears after living in an English-speaking country for a year.

:D I'm sure everyone knows a little bit – the internet, television, advertising, games, slang, I know some English from Photoshop :D ... Recently, an American photographer visited our studio, and I communicated with him using mime, associations (movies, books, paintings), and words that are common to all artists... We got so carried away that the translator went home to rest, and we sat and took photos until late at night. There were very few words, and they just came to us))) The funniest thing is that he knew Russian as well as I knew English, and we were both delighted :D Knowledge is relative, and everyone probably perceives their knowledge in relation to their own understanding of it ;)... Hermit, I agree, we should definitely talk about it, especially in another country where it's not a mechanical memorization but a visual "textbook," and the school program there is more like a table of contents than the text itself :D

You can say English is my hobby. Sometimes it's just fun talking to myself in English practising my pronunciation. After 12 years of studies inspired by my sister's progress in the subject it has eventually become a piece o' cake. And I'm not going to give it up, in this life, at least. And yeah, I'm just being a show-off now.
