I didn't even bother writing about a whole series of thrillers I've watched in this thread because I didn't think they were worth mentioning, but this one is done right. The tension builds, the plot throws in twists, and finally, the tension is justified by a final twist that explains the essence of everything that has happened. I've seen many complaints that the final explanation of the plot is nonsensical and stupid, and although I partially agree with this point of view, I still think that without it, the film wouldn't have worked, and it's still better than the usual anticlimactic ending. In general, if you like thrillers, you can watch it.

The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming! (1966)

I was intrigued by the description of this film, combined with its genre – it's a comedy about how a Russian submarine runs aground off the coast of an island with a small American population. The submariners go to the settlement to find a boat to use as a tug, and the population, upon learning of the arrival of the Russians, panics. I was hoping for a warm, feel-good movie, and that's what it turned out to be. In terms of comedy, unfortunately, it's not that great – the film starts off quite lively and funny, but after the first, not even a third, but a quarter, it becomes quite tedious, and there aren't many funny jokes from that point on. Most of the actors playing the Russians speak quite poorly; no one has a clear pronunciation, the only difference is that some are very bad, and some are almost good. Nevertheless, I'm still somehow pleased that just four years after the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis, at a time when there was a lot of tension in the world, someone decided to make a kind comedy about how all people are brothers and no one should fight with anyone. After watching it, I was left with a pleasant feeling, so despite the fact that it's not a particularly funny 2-hour comedy, overall I was satisfied.

Parasite (Gisaengchung, 2019)

I liked it. The plot (first half), the acting, the direction – everything is simply top-notch. Unfortunately, the second half and the ending are unclear to me. It's obvious that the director wanted to say something with it, but I'm not sure I understand what exactly. What's worse, the communists want to appropriate the ending of the film and are shouting from all sides that the film is about the horrors of capitalism – which may or may not be true, but since they are clearly biased, I cannot rely on their opinion. I wish I had a smart friend who understood the social structure of South Korea and could express their expert opinion....

Tourist (2021)

A Russian film about how Russian soldiers helped the brotherly people of the Central African Republic. Well, at least those citizens who are loyal to the current government.
Everything is bad about this film. The cameraman has a constant tremor, and the editor helps him, and with his editing, he amplifies the feeling of shakiness. The battle scenes are some of the worst I've ever seen, except perhaps for those films that were shot for pennies on a shoestring budget. During one of the scenes, Shnur started playing so loudly that it drowned out the sounds of the battle, and I was simply stunned.
The dialogues are full of sugary fluff, and in general, it is obvious who the film is aimed at. Russian actors play terribly, and the black actors play quite well.
If you try to find any merits in the film, well, it takes place in Africa, so there are some African landscapes (but don't expect any beautiful panoramic views - because it seems like there would be plenty of opportunities for that), and there are also a lot of black actors, which is unusual for a Russian film. Well, that's pretty much it.

I really enjoyed this movie; it's great. Of course, I figured out almost all the twists pretty easily as the movie progressed, but that's not its fault. It's more a reflection of the fact that I've seen a lot of other movies, including newer ones, that explore the same theme, which allowed me to feel like I was standing on the shoulders of giants. But overall, the movie has a wonderful plot, and I watched it with pleasure. It just started off a bit slow, and I was worried that I would be bored, but that wasn't the case.

Yeah, well, the movie is bad. I like the idea, but the execution is terrible. There are a lot of ridiculous scenes, strange editing, and the villain and women are extremely caricatured. The only thing I liked was the Scottish landscapes. Okay, actually, I also liked the reference to Gothic. But I lost the desire to watch the rest of the films in the series.

You can skip the film, but I recommend watching this scene. In my opinion, it's the best thing in the film.

We'll Make It to Monday (1968)

There's a movie I like – Training Day (2001). The film tells about one day (naturally, a training day) of an American police officer. And the title seems to tell us, "Yes, there are jobs where a single day contains as much as someone's entire life." And here, the title carries the same meaning, although it seems to tell about a much more mundane job – that of a Soviet school teacher. And although, looking at the title, I thought we would see the whole week, in reality, it's only about three days – the film starts on Thursday. Although the teacher's life doesn't balance on the edge of death like the police officer's, many events happen during these three days, which are not easy to get through, all in order to then start another week. And the film very well shows these three days, and not even for the whole school, but for the group of teachers (focusing on the main character) and one class. There is a central storyline (in my opinion, it is the central one) and secondary ones, and a bunch of various minor events that also happen in the life of the class and the school. The atmosphere of the school is excellently conveyed, the characters are wonderfully written; you just watch and believe in how real it all is. At first, I was surprised that the film is quite long for a Soviet film – almost 2 hours, but in that time, so much is shown, so many themes are revealed, that you can only applaud how much they managed to pack into such a relatively short period.

I really liked the film; these are the kinds of films that make you want to write about them in this thread.

The Peculiarities of National Hunting.
It's alright. There are things that are dear to the heart of a Russian person, such as vodka, bears, the Russian Empire, bad soldiers, good soldiers, complex relationships between civilians and police, idiotic blunders, debauchery, and drunkenness. And then there's "Black Raven" – somehow, every Russian person knows at least a couple of verses with the chorus, verified in real life through personal experience. In short, Russian-style fanservice is probably a new genre of film.
The downsides are that it's one-sided, a bit drawn out, lacks a proper ending, and the actors, although capable of delivering a good performance, are not given enough opportunities by the director.
