Expedition: general discussions. Auto-translated

And I sometimes read them, although mostly I just browse through the descriptions, choosing based on stats and pictures.

Guys, my program has reached a stage where I'm seriously considering how the GM and players will interact during combat.
Ideally, I envision it like this: each of us has a copy of my calculation program and Hamachi (or something else to create a local network). We get together and play a battle, like a computer game, but without the fancy animations and other things.
Pros:
+ The battle is calculated as simply and quickly as possible.
+ Players control their characters themselves, so there won't be any delays. Instead of "I'm going to do approximately this and that, if, of course, this happens, otherwise I'll do this," there will be clear clicks on the cells, and there can be no errors, inaccuracies, or delays.
- We all need to somehow get together at the same time.
- Everyone needs to spend time downloading (and subsequent updates) my program and installing Hamachi.
- I'm not sure, but there might be synchronization issues. But maybe not.
Another option: I don't spend time writing all this client-server interaction (I've already started, but I've encountered difficulties, although it works on one computer. For some reason, it doesn't work on two). You write to me the actions of your characters, and I send you screenshots of the battle. Classic. The problem: battles may involve stealth and other things, and I will know where your characters are. Of course, I will try not to use this, but... Also, all the disadvantages and advantages of the previous option, but reversed.
Which is better?

- we all need to somehow get together at the same time.

This is almost impossible, and, as I understand it, you can't play for other people.

Ment, this isn't suitable for expeditions. This approach is used by familiar GMs in tabletop role-playing games, but there, the game is generally played in sessions. It won't work here due to the large number of players in different time zones.

I understand. Okay, it's easier for me (at least during the development phase), thanks for the feedback.

Found a cool tool for fractal world generation: https://secure.profantasy.com/library/demo.asp
There are other options too, like this one, but for now, the first one seems the most interesting, even though it's just a demo.

Here's another thing, Ment, something like this.

Not bad, but I haven't found any random generation features there yet. This is quite an important aspect, as it's difficult to think through all the details yourself, and even if you do, it's still practically impossible to make everything reasonably realistic.

Why can't we cook food on a campfire near enemies?

I've never made so many mistakes in calculations before, especially considering there were only about one and a half battles involved, along with the parameters. I guess my time is up.

There's no one else left anyway...

A funny thought occurred to me the other day. Perhaps my desire to create more complex mechanics was driven by my inability to accurately convey the idea and atmosphere of the world and the game due to a lack of adequate literary skill. For example, I always liked how Locken, Vistrit, and especially Heroist wrote, but I had the impression that I was squeezing blood from thin, frozen fingers. And a more complex mechanic, on the other hand, served as the main reason for the premature closure of the games. On the other hand, even those few pieces of text that I provided for reading were read by only two people, so maybe it was a dead idea from the very beginning. That's it.

the inability to accurately convey the concept and atmosphere of the world and the game due to a lack of adequate literary skill

But it seems to me that it has always been fine.
And in general, we don't really have writers here.

For example, I always liked how Locken, Wrist, and especially Heroist wrote, but it always felt like they were squeezing blood from thin, frozen fingers.

It's one thing to write a quest for a character, and quite another to provide complete information about the world and the game.

And a more complex mechanic was precisely the main reason for the premature closure of the games.

I also thought about this once. On the one hand, there is a desire to diversify the gameplay with a multifaceted mechanic, and on the other hand, it creates difficulties for players during character creation and for the game master when calculating battles. And here the question arises: is it even necessary?

read by two people

It's all Arandor's fault; he doesn't read himself and discourages others.

Actually, it's not just about battles. The last time, for example, I made quite a few mistakes while converting quants into a post with characters.
