Why did you decide that playing as Soulfang is an easy route? You probably came to that conclusion after reading the description, but in reality, I balance the game equally for all players, as the map is for Multiplayer.

There is a need and opportunity to develop two heroes.

Yes, the paths on the map are long, and if the main hero goes too far from the city, it is better to have a second, more or less developed hero to protect it.

The only thing that might be worth doing (I don't know if it could negatively affect the balance) is placing a cartographer in the center.

If you play against the AI, there will be no balance issues in principle, but the map is still for Multiplayer. If real people play against each other on the map, the player who takes the cartographer first will definitely know what everyone else is doing.
And in general, I try to make my maps so that they are interesting to explore, gradually discovering different parts of the map, and not so that you reach the cartographer and immediately see everything. It's one thing if a player takes the cartographer at the end of the game, when they have already explored 90% of the map. But if they find the cartographer when they haven't even explored half of the map, then it will no longer be interesting to explore, as they will immediately see everything.
