Favorites, to battle! - 8

For the eighth time, we will compete for our favorite castle, prove its strength, delight viewers with interesting games and unconventional combinations. In this tournament, each player immediately chooses a faction that they will play throughout the tournament.
The first such tournament took place in 2008.
Conflux and Necropolis have twice celebrated victory; once, Fortress, Castle, and Rampart were the best.
What will happen now?

I. General questions.
1. Throughout the tournament, each participant plays as their chosen favorite faction.
2. Game version SoD 3.2 (4.0) + HD mod + HW_rules_mod patch. The latest stable version is currently available: as of early December 2015, HD mod 4.0 RC33, HW_rules_mod 1.38.
3. Color in bracket tables – for the initial seeding. Colors change after each SUBJECTIVE restart.
4. The choice of template is made by crossing out one from the list of 9 templates: 2SM4d(3), Balance, skirmish (at 200% difficulty), Jebus cross, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6LM10a, and Spider. The player marked with blue in the table starts eliminating a template.
By mutual agreement, it is permissible to play on any other template. This issue must be discussed beforehand with the tournament judges.
5. If there are two identical factions in a match, then the template is chosen from the list: 2SM4d(3), Balance, skirmish (at 200% difficulty), Jebus cross, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6LM10a, Spider, mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1.
In this case, players bargain for the right to choose the starting hero. Players take turns (first, the one marked red in the table, then - blue) crossing out one undesirable hero from the full list; then, the players inform each other how much gold they are willing to transfer to their opponent for the right to make the first choice among the remaining heroes. The player who offers the larger amount chooses the hero first and transfers the gold to his opponent.
On the mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1 templates, each player has one subjective restart at 111.
Also, on the mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1 templates, players negotiate over color. The player who offers the larger amount chooses which color he will play as and transfers the gold to his opponent.
6. Standard rules apply.
The default timer is chess clock style, with parameters specified in the rules.
Any changes to the game rules are allowed by mutual agreement of the players, except for changing the Favorite Castle and the Fair Play rule.
Additional rules for templates:
Mini-Nostalgia. The participant marked with blue in the table begins choosing computer opponents' castles. When the color changes, the selection is not repeated; the castles chosen by the player remain his secondary choices.
Diamond. The participant marked red in the table removes an extra (ninth) castle. If the favorite castles are identical, then red first removes one castle, then blue - a second.

II. Organizational questions.
1. This tournament is official and regular.
2. Tournament goals:
- to play as your favorite faction and try to prove its strength,
- to gain valuable experience and improve your gameplay.
3. The tournament is held according to the Rules for organizing, conducting, and participating in tournaments.
4. Players listed on the Blacklist and Penalty Bench are not allowed to participate in the tournament.
5. Tournament hosts and judges: Pit for LM (ICQ: 471401475) and
KobRa_RR (ICQ: 286406830).
If it is impossible to resolve a controversial issue independently, the judges will seek help from the AC.
The host has the right to make any changes to the regulations and rules during the tournament if necessary.
6. For each played match, participants must submit a report and confirmation in this thread, created automatically.
Saves of all matches must be saved until the end of the tournament and presented upon first request by the tournament host or any member of the AC.
7. Information about the progress of the tournament is updated as needed and is located at the beginning of this thread.
8. All games of the tournament go into the seasonal rating. The list of tournament reports is also located at the beginning of this thread.
9. The winner of the tournament and players who took 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded Medals under their avatar:

Award authors: RAPER and ColdRain.

III. Deadlines.
All participants in the tournament must strictly adhere to the announced deadlines:
1. Immediately after the start of the next stage or round, contact your opponents for preliminary arrangements for the games. Agreeing means reaching an agreement after negotiations and discussion. An offer without a response will not be considered an agreement.
2. Any temporary problems (with internet access, travel plans, personal matters) must be reported to the tournament hosts.
3. The preferred time for tournament games is daytime (12-24 Moscow time) on weekends and evening (19-24 Moscow time) on weekdays. If a participant cannot play at this time, the absence of a game result will be interpreted by the host in favor of his opponent.

Registration - October 25 – November 24, 2015.
Approval of the list of participants - November 25-29, 2015.
Bracket generation - November 30, 2015. The bracket will be generated taking into account the declared faction and the player's skill level based on the results of other tournaments.
Start of the tournament - December 1, 2015.

IV. Regulations.
The regulations will be determined after the end of registration, depending on the number of participants.
A standard format is planned: group stage and Full Double Elimination.

Winners of previous "Favorites, to battle!" tournaments:

"Favorites, to battle! - 1" (2008) - Dudge (Necropolis) - Tournament history
"Favorites, to battle! - 2" (2009) - Pit for LM (Conflux) - Tournament history

Despite being born in the underground, there was a good road layout, few ranged guards, I got a Griffin Conservatory + Griffin Conservatory, which helped a lot with necromancy. The Conflux village where I learned Earth Magic also helped (the hero himself leveled up like a beast). Lots of villages, decent gold, 2 Griffin Conservatories (1+2). During the process, I leveled up the Griffin Conservatory, with which, using the broken helmet (+10 knowledge), I took +4 all stats behind the ghosts without losses, and a tier-3 Dragon Utopia with +5 all stats and wings (and the victory crown, of course). Through scouting, I found the path to my opponent and rushed to him with nearly 500 skeletons, tons of mana, and an Ice Bolt/Lightning Bolt for 400+. I caught him in his main town; there were a lot of ducks, but the stats were nothing and he only had mana for one cast. Even the built castle didn't save him. Thanks for the game.

That feeling when, on the Mirror, you sell a red Shakti for 4700 (3700+1000), take Gremlin as a starting creature, and after the restorations, the second creature to come is Gunnar (whom you yourself banned before the bidding :D), the third is Septienna, Gunnar gets Offense and Archery on level 111, the map is poor on gold, you place cats to the limit in the Citadel, realizing that your opponent most likely won't even have enough for Medusas... In short, this wasn't a mirror match, it was a complete stomp. Thanks for the game!

That's why a single trade is needed, not a double one.

It's not necessarily true. There will almost always be games like "red Gunnar vs. blue Shakti," "red Beatrice vs. blue Valeska," and so on. But with identical starting heroes, it's a different story...

It was an intense game; it seems we played without rests. This is because I started on the surface with a decent stack of skeletons and found a necro-cloak at 113, although my paths were far from perfect (it took me a week to reach the computer). Sanya had a gorgeous respawn with 3 hives and an external dwelling for cows; my crooked and long paths were corrected by a lucky TP scroll. I built up control by the middle of the third week and almost immediately jumped to meet "tazik." I didn't expect that at 142 I would be attacked by 80+ monarchs, 39 gr bulls (it was a double), and other same-tier units. I had 1000+ skeletons, a few horses, liches, and about 5(6) angels; without mass haste, I managed to successfully trade all my army except for 200 skeletons for 60 monarchs and 20 bulls. However, I still had a couple of cons in reserve, and right then I pulled out 15% necro-boots from the Dragon Utopia, so I restored my army with a pack of necromancers at a very fast pace. By digging up a killed vidomina for a bunch of money, I managed to kill a decent necro-noob with bracers, whom I again dug up the next turn :smile03: . Thanks to 3-4 heroes with control, I took all the castles on the surface in one turn, having a own sufficiently large timer reserve, which Sanya could no longer boast about despite also having full control and currently a larger army under elixir. Then came the surrender; the only key hero there was "taz," and the distances between cities are very large. I was producing 200+ skeletons per turn and was only one vial short of an elixir, which I surely would have found anyway. Thanks for the game. 2 - 0

Control didn't show up for a long time, around 213 I think, found КВ in the Dragon Utopia, and on that same day Town Portal appeared in another Mage Guild. There was Dimension Door from 134 and Town Portal also took a long time to appear there; in the first final battle at 214 I traded poorly, but a bunch of Necrophytes with 55% + Town Portal and Dimension Door did the trick. The opponent came to me himself, AoTD and bracers ГГ.
Thanks for the game.

Thanks for the game.

The only positive moment from the game is ending the verbal spats with Heroin;). Regarding the game:

1. Playing as red, it was still possible to carry this GG; against a red Galtran in the late game, I have no idea what to do.

2. 8mm6a without rebuild is a theater of the absurd: 5 built Mage Guilds + 1 library = 0 Town Portal. As a result, Shakti (who never got logistics until the end of the game) spent a week frantically wandering in the dark along the edge of the map and by the end of the first month finally found КЗ in the 6th or 7th Dragon Utopia.

3. Besides logistics, there was also no armor. On the other hand, there were property, leadership, and resist.

4. The only moment when it was possible to win: I caught them off guard and won the first final battle, but I didn't have bracers. Nor did the necromancers.

Thanks for the game.
