Posts from What is your opinion about Heroes IV?
Heroes of Might and Magic IV is...
That's precisely the problem. After the unsuccessful release (I can't bring myself to call it a failure) of the fourth installment, the entire series revolves around "how can we add something new to the framework of the third game?" In the fifth game, this still made sense and looked decent, but 10 years have passed, and nothing has changed.
Personally, I would have ended the entire series with the fifth installment. Instead of making a sixth, seventh, etc. (maybe they'll come up with more?), they could create high-quality expansions and collections of campaigns/scenarios for the fifth game. And, by the way, people are still actively creating custom maps for the games from the third to the fifth, which is a great tribute to the mapmakers.

Moreover, things are going backward when the series director announces Heroes 7 as "a collection of the best songs of an ancient, well-known rock band." The modders will clearly do a better job, for free, and give it away to the people.
There's another nuance regarding the seventh game, and it's quite important. It's about the system requirements for computers. Not everyone has hardware with such parameters, and buying a new computer for each new installment sounds a bit absurd.
With the requirements for computer specs and 3D enhancements, the heroes will certainly suffer. The problem is that excessive beauty and turn-based strategy are fundamentally incompatible. The main strength of the Heroes series has always been and should remain in the diversity of mythological characters and strategies for implementing random scenarios. Everything else is distracting. The maximum would be an isometric view like in the fourth game or pseudo-3D (and yet, at the time of the fourth game's release, there was already the possibility of implementing an engine with full camera rotation, but talented developers understood its inappropriateness in a purely logical game).
I completely agree with you. The same applies to the degradation of a number of other wonderful strategy games like Victoria, Hearts of Iron, etc. - all these graphical mobilizations ultimately only lead to slowdowns and cursing from strategy game players in the middle and late stages of the game.
Problems with the 3D perspective start to appear when you play Competitive matches against strong opponents. It's incredibly annoying when you make wrong clicks or simply don't notice chests, artifacts, etc., just because the camera angle wasn't right. Because of these small things and their consequences, the outcome of the game changes significantly.
And I still tend to think that the graphics in the game are far from the most important thing (specifically the graphics, not the style). The graphics engine is a matter of habit. I have quite a few complaints about the fifth game, but they relate directly to the gameplay, and the graphical interface is a secondary concern.
...it's my favorite game in the series.
The advantages are in the hero development, extended scripts, and the beauty of the landscape objects, i.e., trees, buildings, etc.
My favorite game in the series. Although the third installment will always hold a special place in my heart, and playing it with my father is one of my fondest childhood memories, after the release of the fourth game, I simply stopped playing Heroes 3 and never went back. I've spent hundreds of hours playing Heroes IV. I tried the fifth game, but it didn't quite click with me.
I wouldn't say that Heroes IV was a revolution. It was more of a bold attempt that, unfortunately for its fans, didn't achieve widespread success, but it deserves respect for its daring decisions and radical innovations.
