The first long-awaited tournament on mirror templates

Spirit and idea of the tournament

Since the times of VT, everyone has been expecting an adaptation of mirror templates for SoD. And now it has happened. Here there is minimum room for "luck" and maximum opportunity to demonstrate your "skill".
Forward!

The tournament prize pool is 15000р. For first place – 8000, second – 4000, third – 2000, and 1000 rubles will go as a people's choice award.

I. Registration and Regulations:
a) The tournament starts on July 17, 2015.
b) Registration is open until July 16, 18:00 MSK.
c) The tournament bracket and system of conduct will be determined after registration closes depending on the number of participants.
d) In the event of a large number of registrants, a bracket option will be chosen to conduct qualifying games in the shortest possible time and weed out most participants so that only truly experienced players participate in further struggles and the tournament does not stretch over time.
e) To participate in the tournament, it is necessary by the end of registration to have at least 5 played and confirmed games on ХВ. Also, recently registered ХВ members who do not meet the requirement for the number of played games may participate if they are sponsors of the tournament (contribution of at least 1000 rubles to the fund) and have no past violations of portal rules.
f) The group stage deadline is until 31.08.2015.
g)The upper and lower bracket finals are played bo3 (one match diamond + h3dm1, if a 3rd match is necessary, a coin toss).
The Grand Final is played bo5, with a score of 1-0 in favor of the player from the upper bracket.

II. Rules and Templates:
a) By default, games are on version HoTA (1.3.8)+HD-mod with the HW-Rules 1.34 patch connected; by agreement, opponents may play SoD.
b) Color and the right to choose a hero are negotiated (therefore red-rush is allowed). First, castles are determined (in the case of mirror templates, it is the same), then negotiations for color and hero follow alternately.
c) Each player has the right to cross out 1 undesirable castle, as well as 1 hero before the start of negotiation for them (may choose not to use this right), after which a ban on these castles is set in HW-Rulz mode and a random 1-castle generator is launched. The game will be played with this castle.
d) The template for the game is chosen from two existing "mirrors": "mir_Diamond", "mir_h3dm1" by agreement; if an agreement cannot be reached, the choice is made by a coin toss in hw-rulz. 1 - h3dm1, 0 - mir_Diamond.
e) "Hit-and-run" is prohibited.
f) There is 1 subjective restart and objective restarts (restart due to a block (inability to leave the castle) or a severe generation bug).
g) Roads are medium.
h) It is forbidden to steal anything other than resources and chests from guards that have been shifted, or to visit objects (except mills) that do not have their own internal guards.
i) The use of diplomacy is prohibited except for paying off enemies.
j) Game timer is chess: 21+8,30+1,15. Starting difficulty - 160%.
k) Use of in-game bugs described in the rules on ХВ and various kinds of cheat codes is prohibited.
l) The main rule is game ethics and a respectful attitude toward the opponent.
m) Everything that is not forbidden by the rules is allowed.
n) For SoD, any building is allowed; however, in captured villages and towns, building an additional necromancy amplifier is prohibited, except in the starting town.
o) ДД no more than 1 time per day regardless of the "Air" skill level.

III. Organizational Issues:
a) The tournament is unofficial.
b) The tournament is conducted according to the Rules for organizing, conducting, and participating in HOMM3 online tournaments.
c) Tournament leaders and judges – Redwhait HP (658339987), KobRa_RR (286406830), Toganash (564224919). Chief judge - Dirty_Player (ICQ 408722873).
d) Leaders have the right to make any changes to the regulations and rules during the tournament, as well as the right to refuse participation to any player without a public explanation of reasons.
e) For each played game, participants must submit a report and confirmation.
f) Saves of all games must be kept until the end of the tournament and presented upon the first request of the tournament leader or judge.
g) The judicial decision is made primarily based on the tournament rules. If the situation that arose is not regulated by the rules, judges are guided by basic logic and game ethics.
h) All tournament games go into the seasonal rating. Reports and confirmations are written in this thread and will be copied to the "Online game reports and their confirmations" thread.

Good luck, and may skill win!!!

Item "I. Registration and Regulations" has been updated:
[e) To participate in the Tournament, a player must have at least 5 played and confirmed games on HeroesWorld by the time registration ends. Additionally, recently registered HeroesWorld participants who do not meet the requirement for the number of played games may also take part if they are tournament sponsors (with a contribution to the prize fund of at least 1000 rubles) and have no past violations of portal rules.

I changed my mind about participating in the tournament because I don't like Hota. I apologize to the organizers and ask to be removed from the tournament.

The game starts with random towns, and therefore random heroes. In a mirror match, this means that specialists in creatures of levels 1-3 won't appear. We don't see the point in adding more ambiguous bans to complicate the game. The main idea is to have as few restrictions as possible.
The only thing is, we could consider a single, subjective restart in case the opponent's Luna starting hero is particularly bothersome.

In my opinion, it's better to determine the starting town in the game and, knowing which towns will be used, begin the bidding. The rollback amounts for a red Dungeon and a red Castle, for example, will differ slightly...

There isn't much time for preparation, so I would suggest mixing random selection and drafting. For example, each player drafts 1 or 2 castles, and the remaining castles are chosen randomly (HvRulz could do this), so there's a chance to remove a castle that has changed significantly and for which they haven't had time to practice. A fair trade for heroes. There won't be immediate complaints about "Luna is overpowered" or something similar. If you want Luna, pay the price that reflects how much you believe in her.

People really don't have much time to prepare, so I would advise mixing random and draft elements. For example, each player drafts 1 or 2 Castles, and the rest are chosen randomly (Hvruul can do this), so there's a chance to eliminate a Castle that has changed significantly and for which they haven't had time to practice. A normal hero trade is fine. There won't be immediate complaints about "Moon got picked" or something similar. If you want Moon, pay the price that reflects how much you believe in her.
The city selection has only been improved; all cities have level 2 buildings and 3 stacks each. Having experience in Soda with much worse starting conditions, special preparation isn't necessary; it's more important to have experience with the template, which is individual for each player. It's better to simply add 1 subjective restart to be able to reroll a "disliked city" or an unpleasant setup. I also don't think there's a need for a hero trade, because the heroes should be of the same class, and for example, in Castle, one will take Caitlin, and the other will be left with the dregs.

In my opinion, it's better to announce the castle in the game and, knowing which castles will be in the game, start the bidding. The refund amounts for a red Dungeon and a red Castle will differ slightly, for example...
I agree, that makes more sense. We might add this point to the rules.

True, they should have changed the regulations. "...everyone has been waiting for a mirror on SoD and it finally happened," I was already excited, emotions were boiling, I wanted to click "sign up for tournament" and suddenly the HotA version caught my eye. Some contradictions are appearing; why even write about SoD, about the "First Mirror"? Weren't there any on VT?

And regarding the time. "Strong players need more time to show skill..." it's almost laughable that these strong players calculate everything on calculators, and sometimes project such a battle in other heroes... cons three, I'll turn on other heroes now, put together an army like that and see what the results are
Мой ник Heroes, и никто не вынесет меня
Скажу я вам, мои друзья.
Я некромант, я маг великий, и армия моя
Непобедимая, огромная!

The city start has only been improved; everything has been built to level 2, and each hero has 3 stacks. Given experience with scenarios with much worse starting conditions, special preparation is not necessary; it is more important to practice on a template, which is individual for each player. It is better to simply add 1 subjective restart to be able to reroll the "unliked city" or an unpleasant layout. I also don't think there is a need for trading for heroes, because the heroes should be of the same class, and for example, in Castle, one will take Caitlin, and the other will be left with garbage.

No. The gameplay for some castles has noticeably changed in HotA. Tyrus with the Citadel, Flax with a guaranteed Moon, Necropolis through Lords, Inferno through new Magogs – I won't even mention the Conflux. These are all very significant things that need to be practiced deliberately so as not to give the opponent an advantage. It is quite difficult to train all of this well in a couple of weeks. And a restart does not guarantee that the castle will change. However, 1 subjective restart, regardless of this, is also a good idea, in my opinion.

What does it mean that the heroes should be of the same class? Are you willing to give up all 10,000 starting gold for the Moon? No? Then there are competitors, and you will negotiate. And if you leave everything to the will of randomness, then the Moon will periodically come for free and sway the balance much more noticeably.

P.S. The question of why Katya is relevant to Castle is a good one. Castle offers the most balanced start in terms of heroes. Valya stands out a little, but again, it is easily balanced by trading.

No. The gameplay for some factions has noticeably changed in HotA. The Stronghold with Tirath, the Fortress with Flax and a guaranteed Moon spell, the Necropolis through Lords, the Inferno through new Warlocks – I'm not even mentioning the Cove.

I also forgot about the Naga on the third day in the Tower.

Forgot to mention the Nag on the third day in the Tower.

Well, that's not a big deal. First, it's not on the third day, but on the fourth, because you first upgrade the Gremlins, and second, the concept of playing as the Tower hasn't changed much. What might be more critical is that people didn't really play the Tower in SoD, but that's not HoTA's fault.
