New here? I'm Roha — want a quick tour?
nokiabep, I'm afraid to disappoint you: no petition will help, because, according to the company - the owner of the trademark, they do not have the source code for "Heroes 3". "No money - no chairs." That's the situation... :(
As far as I know, VCMI is based on the WoG engine.
But the VCMI creators also do not have the original "Heroes" texts: they use reverse engineering.
The fact that some people offered to buy the "source code" of "Heroes" from the copyright holders, but received the answer: "there isn't any!" speaks in favor of the version that the "source code" of "Heroes" is hopelessly lost. And if they existed, it is unlikely that anyone would miss the opportunity to make some money by selling something that is lying around doing nothing anyway.
It already works on tablets.
The main framework will be ready in 3 months, of course, it won't be tested yet, but it will be possible to attach graphics to it. The final version will be ready in 9 months. Read the post carefully.
They promise to rewrite the code from scratch in 3 months??? It sounds a bit dubious, how is that even possible? To write it so quickly and test it. Although, maybe there will be a large team. And "full-fledged multiplayer" is just funny to read)), I'm just curious how it will all look.
I think that creating even a simple multiplayer mode is actually more difficult than creating AI.
By the way, I don't like the fact that everything has to be redrawn. Rewriting the code is understandable, but redrawing everything... It would be better to somehow indicate that the project is non-commercial, add links to Ubisoft so they don't get too upset, otherwise it won't be quite right, in my humble opinion.
because Ubisoft isn't selling the rights to Heroes 3,
There are many projects for the third installment that don't redraw the graphics. I haven't heard of Ubisoft taking any action against them. Maybe I'm just an amateur, but I've come to believe that under certain conditions, it's possible to achieve the desired result (original graphics) without infringing on anyone's rights.
Are they not selling the rights? Or is there nothing to sell?
I heard that there are simply no source codes; they were supposedly lost when someone wanted to buy them.
