What are the downsides of the double elimination format?
He doesn't fit into a 4-round format. Only single elimination and Swiss-system tournaments are suitable here. Moreover, in the Swiss-system, the winner has to win everything, and the places from 2nd onwards are determined by the coefficients.
Regarding templates, the discussion has been going on for over a month, and no suggestions have been made. Regarding HL+U, I wanted to add 8mm6a as the 5th template, but my more experienced colleagues dissuaded me (Vik, Dirty_player).
So, it seems that only you, as the organizer, need it for now, and without a clear vision, it will start with "I don't want this, I won't do that, why did I come here to play skirmishes, etc." Either create a poll and avoid headaches on this issue, or clearly define the templates now, and those who have objections will immediately respond. Decide at what stage to ban HL templates and at what stage to allow them; I agree that it's better for the last 2 rounds, provided there is time, you can add a couple of HL templates to the draft.

Right now, only you, as the organizer, need this, but without a clear vision, problems will start on-site: "I don't want to," "I won't," "Why did I come here just to watch?" Either create a poll and avoid headaches, or clearly define the templates now; those with objections will immediately voice them. Decide right away at what stage to ban HL templates and when to allow them. I agree that it's better for the last two rounds, provided there's enough time. You could add a couple of HL templates to the draft.
A clear pool of templates will definitely be announced before the tournament. There's still time to decide together – let's do it. The main problem with HL+U templates is that they lead to long games and missed deadlines. We need to clearly define how to solve this problem (there will definitely be no delays – this is unacceptable) and, if there is such a solution, we can include 8mm6a in the template pool instead of Mini-nosty. Then the template pool will be diverse enough to suit everyone. I don't see the point in adding more HL templates. But the question remains open: how to deal with the time issue? Awarding victory at a certain time? Forcing a final battle at a certain time? Or something else?
Based on the templates, I suggest the following maps, with the timer in parentheses: M200 (8:4:1), 2sm4d(3) (10:6:1), Diamond (16:8:1), Mini-Nostalgia (20:8:1), Jebus Cross (20:8:1).
Any wishes, suggestions, or objections? :smile12:

I suggest changing it to TerraDeiDemoni, considering that games on Mininost can be quite long (running around the treasures, etc.). Although I have nothing against Mininost.
Games on Mininost are far from being the longest. The map is completed in a month. In the worst case, it is easy to set up awarding points or a forced battle on this template. TerraDeiDemoni will definitely not be in the tournament - as it is a new template, it has more negative reviews and is generally ambiguous.

Yesterday, I talked to Tvarina, and I'll only be available on January 4th and 5th, so I'm not sure if it's even worth coming. Also, I'm feeling a bit under the weather and I'm almost broke, so I'll decide after the New Year when the system and the number of participants are definitely known.
You can encourage those who started playing 8mm6 to finish it in one go. They can definitely manage it within a day.
That's a good idea. Invest time in one game, and then sleep for 3 days afterwards.
I must sadly inform you that January 3rd and 4th are working days in Belarus, and I won't be able to get time off from work. And that's already 3 trips at my own expense this year. I risk not being able to participate in the CIS tournament and letting down the entire community. So, see you in May in Minsk... Have a good rest and enjoy playing.
That's a shame, but hopefully, it won't be the last time, as they say. Good luck with organizing the CIS tournament!
P.S. For the finals, I'd like a more serious template to avoid complaints later.
P.P.S. And yes, reduce the timer by 2 minutes for HL.
It's a decent idea. Invest time in one game, then sleep for 3 days.
What other options are there? Start playing in the morning and continue until the end. Everyone will be warned before the tournament that this is what awaits them in case of a game on an 8mm6a map. + there will be no incentive to rush through the entire map. It's like in tennis - with a weaker opponent than you, it makes sense to play a 3-set match, because over the distance, the chance of losing is even smaller, but only fatigue can accumulate before the next match. Strategy, damn it.
