But the dark elves don't live up to their name, and you can safely get rid of almost all of them!
Posts from Which units would you replace in the Dark Elf faction?
I would replace the Scorpion Riders with something else. In my opinion, Riders are the most useless unit – they are large in size but have virtually no defense.
Please forgive me, but I completely disagree.
Their large size increases the number of targets they can attack (6 out of 10 cells – that’s significant).
When attacking after moving a long distance (5 or more cells), they COMPLETELY ignore the target's defense. Combined with high attack and damage stats (which is amazing for a level 4 unit), and the fact that heroes usually have good attack stats, they are very effective. They also have very high speed and initiative.
The Lizard Bite is very effective, especially when the hero is Sörgal. (With eight Riders and five Furies under Sörgal, I can easily handle a crowd of any monsters up to level 6, except for Pelors).
And they are incredibly effective in the final battle.
In my opinion, they are the most powerful level 4 unit in the game when you have 20 of them.
Maybe you just haven't figured out how to use them effectively;
Or maybe you simply don't like them for aesthetic reasons.
As for their low defense, if you increase their defense, it would be an overpowered unit.
Ugh...

In my opinion, they are the most "evil" 4th-level unit in the game when you have 20 of them.

Exactly, I agree, Riders are a dangerous enemy, but they are very effective on your side. I would replace Manticores with Minotaurs, though. By the way, Assassins and Scouts are great, and so are Riders!:smile29:

Regarding replacing minotaurs with something flying, I already mentioned it above.
Manticores? - why not.
Added 12 minutes later
...and give the harpies their flight back, and take away 1 speed.
Yeah, right:smile33: And you'll be running around with assassins under Vaishan and praying that you have enough crystals in the second week to upgrade hydras and get to level 3 of the guild of mages.:smile16:
P.S. Sometimes people, not out of malice,
Do such terrible things,
That even a notorious villain
Won't come up with such brilliant ideas.
In general, I suggest replacing the Matriarch with, say, Manticores. Their only advantage is that they shoot and cast Slow.
P.S. Dungeon itself is a very strong castle, and it is logical that besides "super" monsters, there should also be weak ones. That's what the fragile word "balance" is for.
You say that Minotaurs need to be replaced. But where would they go? Think about it: where can Minotaurs live? (not necessarily within the setting of Heroes of Might and Magic V). Personally, I doubt they belong in a meadow, peacefully grazing and nibbling on grass... it's absurd! Originally, Minotaurs lived in caves, or rather (as has been suggested) in labyrinths. By the way, in all parts of "Heroes," Minotaurs lived in labyrinths. The Castles were simply not called Dungeon, but Warlock, i.e., named after the wizard. In my opinion, removing units from the game that have survived and thrived in all five parts of the series is, to say the least, foolish. But that's just my personal opinion.
I would even suggest replacing the Matriarch with, say, Manticoras. Their only advantage is that they shoot and cast Slow.
P.S. Dungeon is a very strong Castle in itself, and it's logical that, besides "super" monsters, it should also have weaker ones. This is where the fragile word "balance" comes into play.
Well, I understand and even sympathize with your position regarding Minotaurs, but please understand me too. Two units that are slow and none of them are flying (I never made it to the late game) + only first-level archers with a penalty to shooting = storming the Academy Castle becomes a lottery. I'm not suggesting adding another uber unit to the army, but just introducing a mid-level flying unit, which, in my opinion, wouldn't disrupt the balance.
However, introducing a powerful level 6 flying unit into the army would seriously disrupt the balance, in my opinion.
Well, in principle, yes. But were manticoras actually strong units in Heroes III? I strongly doubt it, even if they are level 6. Understand that I'm not suggesting using the manticoras from the add-on that are neutrals. That would definitely be unbalanced. How should I put this... I suggest keeping the stats roughly the same, but removing the ability to shoot and adding flight. And of course, tweaking the special abilities in the process.
But then a question arises: in the Castle, there is only one shooting unit, and that's a level 1. That's a bit concerning...
See, I've talked to myself and reached a contradiction in my own statements :).
But it seems to me that instead of discussing every unit individually, wouldn't it be easier to discuss the Castle as a whole? For example, let those interested create their own monsters (only those already invented, and not necessarily from the "Heroes" universe). 7 monsters - 7 levels.
1. Dungeon
2. Imps
3. Minotaurs
4. Lizard Riders
5. Shadow Lords
6. Hydras
7. Faceless Ones
