"logistics, attack, defense, magic of air, earth, and water, wisdom, tactics"
I would never willingly take archery, because if the archer is blocked, it's all for nothing. Sometimes I take resistance or scout, but scout is not often taken; first, you need to analyze the map to see if it's needed, but otherwise, everything seems fine.
Wisdom, Pathfinding, Logistics, Earth Magic, Air Magic, Water Magic - these are very useful skills, and I always try to take them. Diplomacy - I take it, but not always. Luck and Leadership - I take them if I'm playing as a warrior. Mysticism and Intelligence - I think they are most suitable for mages, and I sometimes take them when playing as a mage. Tactics - IMHO, why? Why arrange troops? We wait until the enemy army makes its move and then crush them all. Archery, Attack, Defense, Resistance, Spell Power, Learning - IMHO, these are useless. I prefer the following scheme for them: Basic - 10%, Advanced - 25%, Expert - 50%. Navigation and Necromancy - these are two skills that make sense depending on the map. Ballistics, Artillery, First Aid - useless, as are Scouting, Keen Eye, and Literacy. Wealth - useful if it's impossible to build a capitol in the castle. And finally, Fire Magic - fire magic itself is too weak. The Earth Blast spell deals over 1000 damage, while the Inferno spell (fire) doesn't even deal 500 damage. Maybe the developers forgot to add a zero at the end, and other numbers in the other spells? Doesn't it seem that way to you?
Roman2211, newcomers (and I don't mean you personally, but in general) usually think that damage spells are cool, but experienced players understand that other spells are more important in battles: slowing, speeding up, etc. In fire magic, there are such invaluable spells as berserk, blindness, bloodlust, curse, and others. However, Armageddon, considering that it affects all stacks and war machines (except those with immunity), is also quite powerful! And if you also have the Sphere of Fire...
Воскресайте, камінні душі, Розчиняйте серця і чоло, Щоб не сказали Про вас грядущі: їх на землі не було… (Василь Симоненко. Люди – прекрасні)
Marmot is right! Damage spells are only really helpful in battles with small armies. In large-scale battles, you'll achieve more by buffing your own troops and debuffing the enemy than by simply dealing a few hundred points of damage.
P.S. Two Steps From Hell makes great music:smile54:

It's interesting, to be honest, to hear about preferences for secondary skills. I would like those who prefer skills similar to those described by Roman2211 to share their gaming experience; I completely agree with Marmot and Alexeagle on this. My opinion, which is, however, purely personal, is this: I am absolutely sure that combat magic is generally useless in real battles. The maximum power of the "Explosion" spell that I have ever had was over 10,000 units (with a sphere). In truly tough battles, this is just a light tap! I advise everyone who disagrees with this to find a "difficult" map, for example, "Armageddon." Where you need to "defeat" 8,000 Azure Dragons, I'd like to see who can do it with magic and what army they will need to survive at least a few turns. And what about magic if you are fighting those who are immune to it? Try fighting an enemy with "Power of the Dragon Father," and you will understand me; and if they have "Armageddon," then that's a real treat! This also applies to dragons and golems. The "Sphere of Vulnerability" is not available everywhere. Here are my preferences for secondary skills for the ideal hero: attack, defense, archery, earth magic, logistics, pathfinding, air magic, wisdom. Moreover, earth magic is the most useful of all magics ("slowing and speeding spells can be a powerful weapon, especially in the hands of EXPERIENCED warriors"), because it is much harder to live without a city portal and regeneration, and "Dimension Door" and "Fly" allow you to travel long distances, and whoever can travel further has an advantage, which is why heroes with good logistics are good.
I've been playing Heroes 3 for quite a while, and yes, I often use Blindness, Berserk, and Meteor Shower, but some of the fire spells still need to be buffed.
I've strayed from the topic, but do you agree with this?Roman2211
Shooting, Attack, Armor, Resistance, Magic, Learning - IMO, these are useless. I prefer the following scheme for them: Basic - 10%, Advanced - 25%, Expert - 50%
or make it like this: Attack 10% - 20% - 30% (or 40%)
Roman2211I've been playing Heroes 3 for quite a while. Noob
Attack might be good, but I disagree about Armor; what's its use? +1, 2, or 3 to defense, is that really useful? They're useless, just like Resistance, Magic, and Learning. I was just expressing my opinion, and you're all attacking me.

Pathfinding - very useful skills, I always try to take them.

Tactics - IMHO, why? Why arrange troops? We wait until the enemy army makes its move and then crush everyone as needed.
- tactics are a very good skill (I can explain). And calling armor weak is wrong - it's better than attack.
Added after 13 minutes As for the spells: I try to take them all. This is the best. There are others, but these 4 are essential. (IMHO, the ideal set of spells: level 1: Haste, Slow, Bless, Shield, Curse, View Air, possibly Mass Dispel and Healing; level 2: Blindness, possibly Accuracy and Lightning; level 3: Amnesia, Teleport, Animate Dead, possibly Force Field and Earthquake: level 4: Berserk, Clone, Town Portal; level 5: Dimension Door, Fly, Sacrifice.
Lider1Maybe Attack is good, but I disagree about Armor; what's the use of it? +1, 2, or 3 to defense, is that really useful?
It seems you don't even understand what you're talking about. What +1, 2, or 3? It's -5%, -10%, or -15% to total physical damage (without specialization). There's nothing more to discuss – do your research.
Wisdom, Pathfinding, Logistics, Earth Magic, Air Magic, Water Magic
I try to take Earth and Air, Water or Fire – if the first two don't work out. I prefer Pathfinding to Logistics if I have a choice.
Luck and Leadership – I take them if I'm playing a Warrior
I don't take Luck, Leadership – only in combination with Diplomacy ;)
Mysticism and Intelligence
I never take them.
Tactics – IMHO, why? Why arrange troops? We wait until the enemy army makes its move and then crush everyone as needed.
With an offensive tactic, this skill is useful to quickly reach the enemy with all forces; with a defensive tactic, it is useful to prepare well for his attack. So in any case, it is extremely useful.
Archery – only for a Tower. Attack – essential for any attacking Castle, also useful for defensive ones. Armor – essential for any defensive Castle, not superfluous for an attacking one. I haven't found a use for Resistance, maybe I'm wrong. Magic – is this witchcraft? Definitely useless, that's right. Learning is also not very useful, unfortunately.
Navigation and Necromancy
I don't take Navigation, but upgrading Necromancy is a must.
Ballistics, Artillery, First Aid
If there are many Castles on the map, Ballistics will be useful. I don't take Artillery myself, but I can't say that it's a bad skill; you just need to know how to use it. The same goes for the Tent.
Scouting, Keen Eye, and Literacy
You can give Scouting to a secondary hero. Keen Eye – is this eagle eye? Well, yes, it's practically useless in the third game. Literacy, if I understand correctly what we're talking about, is suitable for a secondary hero.
Wealth
Treasury in my translation. I don't take it for the main hero, but for secondary heroes, it's a skill of primary necessity on any map.
It seems you don't even understand what you're talking about. What +1, +2, or +3? It's -5%, -10%, or -15% to the total physical damage (without specialization). There's nothing more to discuss – study the mechanics.
Are you sure this is directed at me?

Leader, what made you think that something on Roman2211's computer (the tag is at the top) was causing an issue, and that I overlooked it? I understand – from post 383 – that was Roman's response to you, but it wasn't highlighted, and I quoted it.
