You could offer all participants n number of chances (the number is the same, for example, 5). Then, if a player receives 5 chances, they go into a waiting group. The tournament continues randomly until everyone has used their chances. The player who has used their chances and surpassed the others in the number of wins becomes the King of the Hill.

This is just one of the ways to avoid the random selection of a winner. :)

What's with all this fuss? Just create a King of the Hill competition on the Portal, Bay, or the WT website. There will be 4 Kings. And at the end of the year, they can all compare their skills.

You're quite the idealist, talking about "everyone should have an equal chance"... I don't want to get into tautologies, but for example, this year there are 365 days. Even if "King of the Hill" matches (also just an example) were held with one match per day, and there were 368 participants, there still wouldn't be fairness. This tournament is inherently unbalanced; whether it's slightly or moderately unbalanced is not so important for those who have already decided to participate.
