"King of the Hill"

You're quite the idealist, talking about "everyone should have an equal chance"... I don't want to get into tautologies, but for example, this year there are 365 days. Even if "King of the Hill" matches (also just an example) were held with one match per day, and there were 368 participants, there still wouldn't be fairness. This tournament is inherently unbalanced; whether it's slightly or moderately unbalanced is not so important for those who have already decided to participate.

The issue isn't about idealism. The point is that approximate equality should be maintained because if no restrictions are imposed, the longer the duration, the greater the disparity. Some will play 1-2 times, while others might play 10 times, and this is absolutely unacceptable, even if the difference is only 2 times – it's still bad, and this is very likely to happen. Even if this doesn't happen, allowing such a possibility wouldn't be right. Well, never mind, it's up to the organizers...
