Posts from 1st annual offline tournament "Best Of The Best"Auto-translated
тоха;62035VDV, I hope you'll write your own combat tactics against ifrits. I really want to read them. And in general, it could be set up so that players send in their battle tactics and then they are sorted and the most interesting ones are posted on the site. For now, I have completed the description for 14 days:( . There is practically no time:( . But instead, I am making the description very detailed so that anyone who wishes could repeat it and undoubtedly improve it! I just don't know when I will finish writing it, since I am currently preparing for the first stage of the tournament for 1-ke, as well as prices for magic and units from Grails!:o
After January 20, I will try to post all those descriptions that were sent to my email address in a specially designated thread, where winners will be determined after voting, who will then be awarded additional Grails!
VDV, I hope you write about your battle tactics against Ifrits. I would really like to read it. Also, it could be done so that players send in their battle tactics, and then these are sorted, and the most interesting ones are posted on the website.
Yes, and AmberSoler also seemed to promise something ;) If I remember correctly... I was initially interested in this battle.

Yes, and AmberSoler also seemed to promise ;) If I remember correctly... I was interested in this battle from the start
Everything depends only on the starting layout before the fight. There is nothing special about my tactics - the battle was led by Dessa 15/10/8/10 on day 3-3-6, and she had about 900 upgraded Vampires, which determined everything... :) So there isn't much to tell.
As you can understand, the Efreet's Fire Shield has practically no effect on Vampire Lords because the damage dealt by this ability (20% damage returned to the attacker) is nothing compared to the Vampires' ability to restore their own health (100% of the damage dealt to the opponent). And they weren't particularly stressed by the direct damage from the Efreets... This means that after every strike, the Vamps restored practically their entire pool of health lost in the previous round.
To avoid the retaliation from the Efreets, kamikaze volunteers from among the gargoyles were used at the start of the battle to remove this retaliation. Then the Vamps attacked (naturally without retaliation), followed by a shock battalion of gargoyles, who cynically finished off the damaged Efreet stacks.
Additionally, Dessa had the Armor of the Damned, which timely slowed down the Efreets (6 hexes of speed after the usual 11 simply demoralized the enemy in the very first round of the battle). There were also 5 Azure Dragons in the army, who first ensured the first turn (so that the Armor of the Damned could take effect), and then struck such fear into the Efreets that they missed about a quarter of their turns... :)
***
So, essentially, the battle looked like this: (5 AD, 24 BD, 1+1+1816 gargoyles, 584 liches, 933 Vampire Lords against 1296 Efreets, split into 5 stacks).
First was the turn of the fastest units on the battlefield - the ADs, who successfully pass their turn, but allow the Armor of the Damned to work. The Efreets, feeling the mass slow and expert weakness (attack power reduced from 16 to 10), were completely bewildered. :) Estimating the prospects of fighting the azure ones, some of the enemy stacks prudently stood in place and looked for a reason to slip away... Those who dared to rush forward only managed to cover half the distance.
After the retaliation was removed, the vampires rushed into attack, followed by the gargoyles. Then, the liches hit the most distinguished enemy stacks, and the Azure ones and BDs finished it all off, wiping out the weakest enemy stacks.
Towards the end of the battle, we apply Animate Dead to the Vampires, although they restored themselves quite well even without magic.
Losses: 2 BD, 254 gargoyles, 61 vampires - and even then, only because someone forbade digging for the Medal of Vulnerability. :) Otherwise, both the BD and probably most of the gargoyles would have been restored.
The Efreet losses were much more significant. :)

Battle analysis:
It was a mistake to take BDs and gargoyles into battle (they cannot be restored). It would have been enough to take only 1 AD (for the first turn and fear), liches (ranged mass attack), and Vampires (the main shock stack). In this case, we finish the fight without losses (see screenshots below). The battle tactics are as follows: End of the first turn - Vamps, after waiting, fly to the nearest Efreet stack (if we don't reach it, haste can be applied). On the second turn, we fly to the opposite edge of the field.
The Efreets can only reach the Vamps with their turn (slowdown), and therefore (due to dumb AI tactics) on the second turn, instead of flying toward the shooters, they return to the Vampires and spend the whole battle standing around them and frying them slowly. There was, however, one smart Efreet - he rushed at the shooters, but such ones don't live long... :D
The Vamps respond only to the first of the attackers, however, the constantly applied Animate Dead magic + the innate ability of vampires to restore themselves compensates for all losses. Additionally, the uncommon clustering for Efreets leads to very high damage for them from lich attacks (2-3 stacks are always under fire).
At the end of the battle, we leave one of the weakest enemy stacks, fly away with the vampires, restore them over 2 turns, and take down the opponent with liches... The result is obvious :) I didn't bother replaying for this, as it was already the end of the game, and there was still plenty of meat (BDs were taken out in auto-battle :), I didn't look for oil)... But the debriefing was nonetheless carried out thoroughly.
Dessa's photo session is below:
1. Deployment before the battle. Armor of the Damned has already taken effect. 2. Efreets are clustering around the Vamps. Naive! :) One is already gone... :) 3. Result - no wounded! The whole battle - 6 rounds. Necros definitely rule!
It's strange why so much effort is being put into dealing with efreets. I went with just vampires, without the Cursed Armor, and only lost 4 of them...
There's nothing strange about it – there are countless ways to complete a map and conduct battles. I described how it went for me... Unlike some, I didn't manage to complete the map three times :D So, the way the battle unfolded the first time is how it was recorded...
So, essentially, the battle looked like this: (5 Death Knights, 24 Black Dragons, 1+1+1816 Gargoyles, 584 Liches, 933 Vampire Lords against 1296 Efreet, split into 5 stacks).
I have a question of a different nature. I don't understand why, with such an army, you chose to fight the Efreet for 100 Archangels. It seems to me that if you hadn't been distracted by them and had continued to complete the quests, you would have significantly reduced the completion time. In my opinion, with such an army, you could have made progress even without Archangels.

Hmm... as it turned out, my first test run was the only one... It also became the final one because there was no time to replay. I could have changed a lot of things... Just consider the fact that I got rid of the Captain's Hat at the very beginning of the game, and I was too lazy to fight for the boots and gloves... From a logistical point of view, it's a complete mess. Therefore, I have no doubt that it's possible to complete the game at the level that the leader showed...
As for the battle for the Archangels, the entire expedition took only 2-3 extra days, which is not significant compared to the rest. And having a hundred Archangels in the army guarantees a quick completion of the game, which, quite possibly, more than made up for the time spent on this quest...
As for the battle for Arkhos, the entire expedition took only 2-3 extra days, which is insignificant compared to the rest. And having a hundred Arkhos in your army guarantees a quick end to the game, which, quite possibly, more than made up for the time I spent on this quest...
Actually, I didn't quite understand. There were also days spent collecting the parts of the artifact to get the Arkhos. In my playthrough, I only took two parts. I somehow think that you can't defeat the Cyclops and mages guarding these artifacts with a secondary hero. So, presumably, 2 days for these two parts. You didn't have a clever strategy for the landing. 2 days by sea, 2 days by land to the Efreet (no boots and gloves). At least 6 days. But you're probably right that it's insignificant compared to the rest. Although, it depends on how you look at it. Even 3-4 days can be crucial for some. Take the leaders, for example. The difference was 3 days. But the logic is clear; I sometimes do the same thing. It's better to have good troops in advance than to get stuck somewhere and have to replay.
The sword was taken much earlier than all the other artifacts—on the way, since the landing on the shore took place near it. The remaining three artifacts were taken on one day by two different heroes starting from the Tower. The Tower was taken in advance by some left-wing speedrunner, while the main ones arrived there via TP; by the way, about thirty more CDs joined there.
The land route to the wyvern legion (via the Tower and azure ones) was shorter than sailing by sea (after all, there were some strong logisticians among the heroes, but navigation was a disaster). Therefore, in order to wipe out the wyverns, one would have had to drag themselves toward them anyway—and in terms of time, this would have taken quite a lot even with the use of whirlpools...
So not particularly much extra time was spent on the pedestrian expedition... The Archs, in turn, helped a lot in the Conflux. If it weren't for them, I don't even know what would have been left for the fight against the CDs. That fight was the last one.
I, for example, also took 100 Archons because I couldn't clear the Conflux Castle without them... it takes an extra 5 days. The most important thing in this tournament (and probably in any) was to get out of the starting area as quickly as possible and then build an optimal route. I made a mistake by running after vampires and liches after joining the gargoyles. I should have immediately taken the Barbarian Castle with a Grolem, and only then gone after the vampires; I estimate that would have saved me 4-5 days. By the way, if anyone is interested:
A brief walkthrough.... In the first week, we collect resources and all the chests for gold, which gives us the construction of a Behemoth dwelling. In the second week, we defeat the demons and loot the gnomes, which gives us the construction of a town and a castle. In the third week, we leave the starting area: on day 17, we clear the Sorcerers; this is a difficult battle because we can't lose a single Behemoth. Then we move on to the Necropolis... there we immediately gather an army of vampires, black knights, and dragons, then we capture the Behemoth dwelling (+1 Behemoth) and free Alex. Then we run to capture the gold mine and quickly go to the Elder (along the way, we join the gold dragons). At the Elder, we get two Rust Dragons and buy another one on the way back. Then we run for the gloves, and after taking them, we go for the Phoenixes and get into the boat (around day 31). We leave the vampires to Alex, and Celt runs for the gargoyles. After joining them, we take the Knight Castle, then the Barbarian Castle... Then we sail to the island for the liches and vampires. After the battle at the outpost, Alex gives the vampires to Celt, and a large number of vampires join us, hooray! Then we run, join the liches (another hooray), and clear the path to the artifact... We run back and get into the boat (along the way, we buy a Sapphire Dragon; it helped a lot because its "fear" effect works even on the Black Dragon). We sail through the whirlpool to the blue faction (top right) and run to capture the Barbarian Castle (along the way, we take the sword). After capturing it, we go to visit Hacker, where we upgrade the vampires and take the castle... (at this time, the enemies are trying to attack my castles, so I have to skip a turn and tell them that they are acting incorrectly... and Alex goes for the necklace). Then we run again to the blue faction to collect the artifact and, along the way, clear their first castle. Then we get into the boat (at the very bottom) and clear the Wyverns, then we sail to visit the blue faction and say goodbye to them... We clear the Efreet and get the Archangels (third hooray), then we go to meet the Black Dragon, and after that, we teleport to the Knight Castle. There, we give Desser the Captain's Hat and send him for the corresponding artifact (to the Bog Witches), while Alex, meanwhile, takes the artifact after the Black Dragon and runs for the artifact at the very bottom... Celt goes to free Joker, and after freeing him, he goes for tea with Magnus. After that, Desser takes the artifacts from Alex and teleports to Celt, and passes them on... Celt collects them, and... that's it!
It took a total of 68 days... it was long; there wasn't enough time for optimization.

By the way - I found another significant oversight of mine - I didn't have any vampires in my army... I sailed to the island almost at the end - and those creatures demanded an exorbitant sum for joining, which I naturally didn't have :( And anyway - by the end, I clearly didn't need them anymore ;) But otherwise - thank you very much for such a vivid description! I won't be afraid of ifrits anymore :D And a big thank you to Kyle - his description was also interesting to read. :) Overall, I gathered many interesting points from this entire "after-action report". I hope my results will improve next time!

The trick is that the Vampires would join, but only if you had at least one vampire in your army... :) That's why scouting is so important... Without vampires, fighting the Efreet is very problematic. Not because it's difficult, but because you'll suffer many losses. Ta Kotoraya...;62772
In general, I learned a lot of interesting things from this "post-mortem analysis." I hope my results will improve next time!
Glad to hear that! See you in the final tournament standings! :) And the higher, the better, right? :D
The funny thing is that Vampires would always join you, but for that, you needed to have at least one vampire in your army... :) That's why scouting is so important... See you in the final tournament standings! :) And the higher you are, the more fun it probably is, right? :D
Well, I'm still learning;) So next time, I'll do a more thorough scouting...

when I was fighting Ifrits, I already had enough “meat,” meaning various pikemen, goblins, etc. So, I took Cyclops, archers, monks, orcs, and hippogryphs, added this “meat,” and spiced it up with the “sacrifice” spell. The archers shot, the hippogryphs tore, and they actually died quite well, but then the “sacrifice” spell consumed virgin pikemen and goblins, and in the end, all the hippogryphs remained alive. And that’s the main thing.
