There are five different factions in the game: Haven, Inferno, Necropolis, Stronghold, and Sanctuary. Each is designed with a specific cultural style; for example, the undead are themed around Ancient Egypt, and the orcs are influenced by Aztec culture.
A holy empire of humans who worship the dragon-god of light, Elrath, with its capital in the city of Falcon Reach. This faction is a stereotypical medieval empire, but its imagery contains significant elements of Romanesque culture. Their goal is a new world order and the imposition of the ideals of light and purity. Advantages — high morale, resilience, and advanced light and healing magic. Weaknesses — a heavy reliance on melee combat and a lack of aggression. The main hero of the campaign is the young Duke Anton, son of Vyacheslav and his heir.
2. INFERNO (Inferno)
Sheol, the "Prison of Fire," a plane of existence created by the dragon Asha to imprison her brother, the chaos dragon Urgash, and the demons he created. Their capital is Ur-Hekal, the Gate of the Burning Heart. In this installment, the developers decided to focus on a more aggressive and demonic appearance. For centuries they were imprisoned in this jail, but now they intend to conquer the world by exploiting a flaw in the spell that keeps them in Sheol. Demons are servants of Chaos, and the only meaning they find in existence is the total freedom of the individual and the will. Advantages — deadly magic, as well as the highest luck and endurance in the game. Weaknesses — lack of discipline and low morale. The main hero of the campaign is Kirill, son of Vyacheslav, who is possessed by demons.
3. NECROPOLIS (Necropolis)
The Necromancers, a traditional faction for the Heroes of Might & Magic series. This time, their appearance has been significantly altered under the influence of Ancient Egyptian culture. And since the game takes place long before the plot of the fifth part, the necromancers in this game are still merely a sect that split off from the mages. The land of the necromancers is called the "League of Silver Cities," due to which they have no capital in the conventional sense. The god of the necromancers is the Primordial Dragon of Order, Asha, but they have overly emphasized the aspect of "Death" in his meaning. Advantages — immunity to fatigue and strong debuffing magic. Weaknesses — poor mobility and a small number of support spells. The main heroine of the campaign is Anastasia, daughter of Vyacheslav, whom she killed. While imprisoned in a dungeon, her brother Anton plunged a dagger into her heart to save her from the torture of the Inquisition, but she was resurrected as a necromancer by her father's aunt, the necromancer Svetlana.
4. STRONGHOLD (Stronghold)
A race of orcs living on the Pao islands in the Jade Sea. Orcs have no gods, but they worship "Mother Earth and Father Sky." They were originally created to fight demons, but were later able to free themselves thanks to Kunyak the Liberator. Their capital, Taumat-Kunyak, is named after the legendary liberator of orcs from slavery. Currently, they are fragmented and live in thousands of tribes. This faction's primary focus was on Aztec culture (due to living in jungles), which is particularly noticeable in the designs of the Dreamwalker and Harpy units. Advantages — endurance, high mobility, and immunity to demonic magic. Weaknesses — weak magic and tactics. The main hero is Sandor, the eldest but illegitimate son of Vyacheslav. For this reason, he did not like living at court and bonded with the orc Kraal, a friend of Vyacheslav.
5. SANCTUARY (Sanctuary)
A feudal land of nagas living near water. This faction appears for the first time in the game series, yet contains a number of units appearing in previous parts. The land of the nagas was created with a strong emphasis on East Asian culture, especially Japanese. Thus, many of its units have Japanese names — the nagas in samurai armor, Kenshi; the water-dweller, Kappa; and the unicorn, Kirin. Following this tradition, their country is called Hashima, named by the developers after the island of the same name, and the capital is Nariya. Nagas live wherever there is water, but in most cases far from other peoples. This is because the main goal of a naga's life is constant self-improvement and maintaining purity. No matter what a naga engages in — art or the craft of war — they are always difficult to surpass. Advantages — balance and unquestioning obedience to orders. Weaknesses — expensive units and limited ranged combat. It should be noted that during beta testing, the second weakness of Sanctuary was removed due to a resulting imbalance between the game factions — Coral and Pearl priestesses gained the ability to attack from a distance. The main heroine of the campaign is Irina, the eldest daughter of Vyacheslav.
