Posts from 1st annual offline tournament "Best Of The Best"
The names of the heroes were a requirement for the map contest. When choosing the names, I was guided by the fact that they should be well-known people. And the Admin, as the strongest opponent – no comment needed. And who doesn't know TIGRYONOK? P.S. I'm not a voodoo practitioner, I'm just a Necromancer ;)
The map is interesting, but challenging :) I think each participant in the tournament will receive a "gift" from VDV for the New Year in the form of a rope with a piece of soap :D To be able to try and complete it myself, due to the lack of time, I'll have to play it once and choose a calm approach based on capturing and developing fortresses. All my hopes are on Jokera :)
Now, a few points regarding the rules. There are many participants, so it seems like it wouldn't hurt to clarify. 1. Is it allowed to run away with heroes and then buy them back and use them again on the same day? 2. I patched the game, but the bug remains. There is a possibility to cast magic twice in a row with a hero on the battlefield, and this is not saved, and the game won't say that you are cheating.
What should we do about this? Regarding the first question, I would allow it - if you have the money, buy and fire as many as you want - and use them again after you buy them back. Regarding the second point, I personally have never used this when playing the campaign or just against the computer. However, when I started playing with friends from work in hot-seat mode, I was forced to do it. The fact is that they always used this bug. When I suggested that they play without it, none of them agreed; each was sure that someone would use it at least a couple of times, and it is impossible to check. They made a decision - like, let Axe also use magic twice, if you don't want to, it's your business, and we won't stop you either :) Thus, we will knowingly be in equal conditions, otherwise - it will be impossible to figure out :)
If we agree not to use magic twice, then let the judge say how he will be able to determine the legality of the playthrough on such a super-complex map, where a lot of battles are expected, both super-complex and simple. I talked to the same guys I used to play with, and they are still playing. They took this map for themselves. They told me that if we were playing in the tournament, they would use magic twice. I told them that it is forbidden. They said that it is difficult to catch, especially if it is not used everywhere, but rarely. In fact, my suggestion about detailed descriptions didn't work out, and I myself agree that a detailed walkthrough of such a map would require a lot of effort. But how to catch the double use of magic in battles? Also, how to describe how much magic there was before the battle, how much was cast, and how much is left? And also, store all saves before and after each battle? But these points are not in the rules either.
VDV-forever - please clarify this situation regarding the listed points.

I believe you are not the only one in this situation. Indeed, the map is quite challenging. But let's hope that each participant will be able to complete it at least once... To those who initially found the map too difficult - don't worry... The main thing is to finish it... And then we'll see...IronAxe;47008
VDV-forever - please clarify the situation regarding the listed points.
I will try to answer all your questions on behalf of VDV_Forever... I hope I won't distort the reality... :)IronAxe;47008
Now, a couple of points regarding the rules. There are many participants, so this seems necessary. 1. Is it possible to run away with heroes and then buy them back and use them on the same day?
Yes. This is not prohibited. If you have enough funds, you can buy back your heroes on the same day. In addition, it is also not prohibited to use the "Hero Excavator" if you need it.
2. I patched the game, but the bug remains. It is possible to cast magic twice in a row with a hero on the battlefield, and this is not saved, and the game will not say that you are a cheater. What should I do about this?
Casting magic twice in one round is considered a bug. I suggest not using it. If you bypass this bug, I will ask you to find a way to justify it :) "like, let Axe cast magic twice as well" - this is up to you. If you think you have the right, you can cast it... There is a way to check your playthrough in detail. And it's not about a "sniffer"... Officially, casting magic twice in one turn is prohibited.
In case of doubt, any player has the full right to demand a detailed description of your playthrough, and it is possible to calculate your playthrough step by step. And you know that...
So, if, for example, with negative morale, you get a bonus every turn, it is better for you to replay that battle... :) we have experience, so to speak...
I made him untouchable, with the written consent of AlexeyPanka:) As with most quests in this tournament.
Added 4 minutes ago Thank you, IronAxe, for the questions, and AmberSoleru for the detailed and, most importantly, correct answers to them!;) I have successfully incorporated this comment into the rules!
Using magic twice in one round is considered a bug. I suggest not using it. If you bypass this bug, I will ask you to find a way to justify it :) "like, let's let Axe use magic twice too" - that is at your discretion.
The justification is this - if it is allowed for EVERYONE, then there is no need to check anyone regarding the use of magic twice per round. That's how those three characters I played hot-seat with explained it to me. In this case, all participants are at their computers under the same conditions and are all equal to one another. Like, for double usage, everyone spends twice as many mana points per round.AmberSoler;47016
If you believe you have the right, you may use it... A way to check your Walkthrough in detail exists.
I don't "believe" anything; I am describing the situation in detail. Yes, I know there is a way to check the leader's Walkthrough in detail, but not every participant's. For this, a most detailed description is needed, including the mana points of EACH hero before EACH battle, plus how they cast in each battle, and how much was left at the end of the battle. Additionally, saves are needed not only for the start and end of the day, but also for the start and end of every battle. This is not in the rules! 1. Agree - making such a description for a map like this might take so long you'd die before finishing :)AmberSoler;47016
In case of doubt, any player has the full right to demand a detailed description of your Walkthrough from you, and there is a possibility to calculate your run step-by-step. And you know this...
That is exactly what I am unsure about. Because what you wrote is not in the rules. Specifically, no one except the judge has the right to demand anything from you; they can ask, but you have the right to refuse. And it's unlikely the judge will manage to calculate every person's run step-by-step, at best only the leader's. But imagine if the judge tells someone to whip up a description specifying the mana points of each hero before every battle, a description of every battle, how much was left, and to send all those saves - THAT IS UNREAL, especially on a map like this. Well, what if this is used not by the leader, but by a player who took 3rd place - NO ONE WILL CHECK THEM AT ALL! (By this, I mean a DETAILED check). In this case, an injustice toward other players remains.AmberSoler;47016
I still hope it doesn't come to that.
Come to what? To a step-by-step check of saves based on detailed descriptions? Yes, I am simply sure of that! The simplest way is to allow EVERYONE what was once forbidden by someone, but the reasons for the prohibition were not explained, nor was a way to effectively verify the use of this bug found :)
You apparently haven't read the thread about the OFF Heroes 1 Tournaments. There, I proposed a point on strengthening the checks at least for the leaders' Walkthroughs, but the proposal was not accepted. So read the rules carefully. If you personally, for example, take 3rd place, you cannot personally check the player in 2nd place, especially if they use double magic not in battles with legions but in battles with dozens. Such battles won't even be mentioned in descriptions on this map! I am surprised that you specifically had to have this explained to you :(
Added after 12 minutes Amber Soler, do you want to be convinced that you are wrong? :) Officially allow everyone to use magic twice ONLY in ONE battle with any of the heroes. After the tournament, let the judge or YOU say who used magic twice in which battle, or at least identify just one "unclean" battle of the leader. Your correct answers would convince me that I am wrong. PS. One can, of course, think that everyone plays fair on their word, but I don't want to play and think that I might end up looking like a bit of a fool.
Added after 56 minutes I'll repeat the essence of my proposal so you don't have to dig and look for it in another thread. Officially allow the player who took 2nd place to check the player who took 1st, allow the player who took 3rd to check the 2nd place player, and the 4th to check the 3rd, respectively. The Judge can check anyone, regardless of what place they took themselves. The chain ends there. In this way, the top three leaders can be checked in detail, which also helps the judge during verification. If the leaders' results are verified this way and everything is clean, is there any point in checking the other players in detail? I think not. If this point had been introduced into the rules, then it would be one thing, and double casting could be forbidden. But a prohibition without corresponding verification makes no sense.
The reasoning is that if it's allowed for EVERYONE, then there's no need to check whether magic is used twice in a round...
I gave a general answer, without reference to a specific tournament or a specific map. It's clear that it's simply impossible to check for progress on SUCH a map. :) Even if you decide to describe your playthrough... IronAxe;47038
The simplest way is to allow EVERYONE to do what was once forbidden by someone, but the reasons for the ban were not explained, and no effective way was found to check for the use of this bug.
In fact, this is precisely why it was suggested to use SoD 3.2 for the game. They fixed this bug there, so there's no need to raise the issue. And if you have it (doublecast) working, then you probably don't have the right version of the game... Try downloading the patch from another source (I mentioned which one earlier :). It's "normal" there and doesn't have such a fatal bug. Doublecast is still a huge advantage over others...

Okay, I'll try from there, although I downloaded it from the source the judge mentioned. AmberSoler;47057

I, on the other hand, want to eliminate this advantage :) for anyone. Until I check the new patch (I'll have to dig into the eternally outstretched hand :)), I can't say anything more. I'm not an expert on the third game.

I found what you wrote to me: ---- Download the SoD 3.2 executable from HW and don't worry about anything ----
Please provide a more specific link, I don't think it will be considered advertising another site. I personally need an executable in which the doublecast bug is fixed. I was explained how to check the version of the game that I have installed, and I checked - it was 3.0. I took the patch that VDV mentioned, put the executable in the game folder, launched it, and something flashed. A text file even appeared in the game folder, and there was even something written in it about v.3.2. But in the properties of the Heroes launcher file, the number 3.0 remained. What the heck, what should I do?
and also, my "Spirit of Despair" isn't working!!! I have it equipped, but the morale is still negative, and I'm skipping turns.... ((( I don't even know what's going on....
The Spirit of Despair is an artifact that reduces the morale of your troops and the enemy's troops to a negative value during battle. :) Naturally, this only happens if you are wearing it. :)

Morale can be positive, negative, or neutral... The Spirit of Despair lowers positive morale to neutral, but it doesn't raise negative morale to neutral. What a trick! :)
Can I ask what difficulty level everyone is playing on? I'm just curious how many people are potential tournament rivals...
As far as I know, 4 people are playing on normal difficulty... CrasH;46954
And also, my "Spirit of Despair" isn't working! It's equipped, but morale is still negative, and I'm skipping turns... ((( I really don't know what's going on....
The artifact "Spirit of Despair" only removes positive morale! This is done so that in very long battles, where the opponent, in the form of slow units that move accordingly slowly, doesn't give them the opportunity to attack your units at the most inappropriate moment!
As for negative morale: Don't take undead with you, and also don't take units of different nationalities, and everything will be fine!
Dear IronAxe, let's not change anything in this tournament anymore, okay! But for the next one, I think we should consider it...;). Well, for now, remember those stagnant times: ... Bus, trolleybus, tram...
