The names are of Greek origin, and each one was chosen for a reason, reflecting something specific: Anastasia means "resurrected," which is fitting since Svetlana brought Anastasia back to life; Irina means "peaceful," reflecting the philosophy of the Nagas.
What an interesting alternative game! And the tiresome, bloodthirsty RACES like the Twilight and Blood Elves, attacking from across the Sea of Irsus, are, therefore, like Native Americans.
Actually, no. Take a look at the list of Greek names (even on Wikipedia) and you won't find Pavel, Anton, Slava, or Svetlana there. You also won't find Sandor, whose nationality is unknown. So, who knows, think what you want, but I think that the developers at Ubisoft were thinking of Russia. P.S. The fact that the names have become traditional should at least raise some suspicion.

Sandor (or rather, Shandor) is a Hungarian name. At least, that's what the developers say (a similar question was asked, and they provided a detailed answer). In Heroes 5 (if you refer to the English localization), there was Nikolai (Nicholas in the Russian localization of Heroes 5) and Irina (Iris in Russian). Nikolai's father was named Alexei (became Alex in the Russian localization). His grandfather was supposedly Oleg (became Helge). The first emperor of the Griffin dynasty was named Ivan.

A little nitpicking: for an observer in the southern hemisphere, let's say, the "desert" will be north, and the "snowy lands" will be south, so "reality" implies both options.
Regarding magic, Irdiss correctly described everything according to the elements. Nowhere was it said that it is impossible to develop non-specialized magic; rather, the opposite is true – any race will have access to any school (it's not entirely clear with the Orcs yet). How exactly the races' inclination to a particular school manifests itself has not been stated. In the description, it was mentioned that Necromancers, in addition to their primary magic (which corresponds to their dragon), prefer the magic of Earth and Darkness. Therefore, it may turn out that for each race, there will be one specialized magic and two non-specialized, but preferred, magics.
