If you were familiar with the medieval culture of Eastern Europe, you would know that the griffin was practically a sacred symbol there – it was often depicted on coats of arms and in architecture. We don't have such a tradition in Russia. And the fact that griffins don't exist in nature is obvious, even to a fool.
