I watched Death Note over the past two days. I really enjoyed the first 15 episodes. The confrontation between L and Light is portrayed very intensely and interestingly. It gets worse after that. Many people think the series declines after episode 26, i.e., after L's death, but in my opinion, it happens a little earlier. Right after the 15th episode, when all sorts of hide-and-seek, passing things around, and memory games begin. L was definitely more likable than the high school student with an excessively inflated ego. In this intellectual confrontation between the two main characters, Light cannot be called a "winner," if only because, unlike L, he was always aware of everything, including having an understanding of the notebook and knowing its abilities.

While I enjoyed the first part, a major drawback for me was that the episodes weren't connected by a single plot, and essentially, skipping one or another wouldn't affect the perception of the series. But the second one is much better.
Also, a couple of weeks ago (before Death Note), I watched Blood+. Out of everything I've seen, I liked it the most. In fact, I'll quote myself:

One of the few cases where almost all the characters evoked only positive feelings.
