I watched Death Note over the past two days. I really enjoyed the first 15 episodes. The confrontation between L and Light is portrayed very intensely and interestingly. It gets worse after that. Many people think the series declines after episode 26, i.e., after L's death, but in my opinion, it happens a little earlier. Right after the 15th episode, when all sorts of hide-and-seek, passing things around, and memory games begin.
L was definitely more likable than the high school student with an excessively inflated ego. In this intellectual confrontation between the two main characters, Light cannot be called a "winner," if only because, unlike L, he was always aware of everything, including having an understanding of the notebook and knowing its abilities.
