While I enjoyed the first part, a major drawback for me was that the episodes weren't connected by a single plot, and essentially, skipping one or another wouldn't affect the perception of the series. But the second one is much better.
Also, a couple of weeks ago (before Death Note), I watched Blood+. Out of everything I've seen, I liked it the most. In fact, I'll quote myself:
Watching it was an incredible pleasure. For the first time, I felt regret upon finishing something, comparable to the feeling you get when reading the last pages of an engaging book. One of the few cases where almost all the characters evoked only positive feelings. All 50 episodes were filled with plot; there were no "battles" stretched over several episodes or episodes whose content was completely unrelated to the main plot.
