Posts from - What are the drawbacks of Heroes 3? (What didn't you like about it?)
I might offend many, but starting with the third installment, this great series began to decline. And the higher the number of the Heroes game after the third, the worse they became. The main drawbacks of the third game compared to the second are the lack of uniqueness (scenarios and tactics are more primitive), the unsuccessful averaging of everything (castles are unbalanced), the elimination of the principle of hero development and the presence of super-armies (you can spend 2 weeks leveling up a hero, or you can equip a newbie, and black dragons have been turned into chickens), the presence of a bunch of unnecessary and easy-to-obtain objects on the maps, 90% of heroes can only be used for collecting garbage on the map, and so on.
You're talking nonsense right now... think about what you're writing... and regarding the game, if 90% of your heroes are just running around collecting garbage, then learn how to play...

I might offend many, but the degradation of this great series began starting with the third one. And the higher the Heroes number above three, the worse they became. The main shortcomings of the third compared to the second are the lack of a certain "spark" (scenarios and tactics are more primitive), an unfortunate averaging of everything (castles are unbalanced), the elimination of the principle of hero development and the existence of super-armies (you can spend 2 weeks leveling a hero, or you can just equip some random novice; black dragons were turned into chickens), the presence of heaps of useless and free objects on the maps, 90% of heroes can only be used for collecting trash on the map, and so on.
I didn't like that when leveling up, there's only a choice between two skills.
I also don't like that the difference in strength between the first level of troops and the last is too great. That is, if you capture someone's Castle in the middle of the game, there is a perfectly reasonable thought to replace your Goblins with Archangels. In Heroes of Might and Magic V, this difference is not so great.
I don't like that when buying a new hero in the tavern, the price doesn't increase, and you can (and should) buy 8 heroes and send them in different directions.
And the imbalance.
(Castles are unbalanced)
To put it mildly, all of this is highly debatable, and frankly, complete nonsense. Of course, IMHO.
What could be controversial here? I expressed what I don't like about the third game, and I have every right to do so.
I understand that you are probably a die-hard fan of the third game, and all the new features only worsen your favorite game for you. Don't be conservative, or you'll remain at the same level in every sense of the word.
Don't be conservative, or you'll remain at the same level forever in every sense of the word.
That's exactly what the third game is about!
Haven't you ever heard the expression: "Simple but tasteful"?
That's exactly what the third game is about!
And TE probably came about because life wasn't simple enough either.

What's there to argue about? I expressed what I don't like about the third game, and I have every right to do so.
It's clear that you're a die-hard fan of the third game, and all the new features only worsen your favorite game in your opinion. Don't be so conservative, or you'll remain stuck at the same level in every sense of the word.
Yeah, especially when you look at the number of pages in the Physics and Magic guide or the list of rules in the first post of the tournament thread))
And TE probably also appeared not out of boredom.
To avoid going off-topic. Cache, +1:) especially about the expansion pack. I read a bit about the classes and experience, and I was surprised))
Regarding the shortcomings of the third game, it's probably the infamous imbalance, which has been written about extensively. Imbalance in both castles and heroes. Many criticize the fourth game for its blandness, saying that the ideas implemented in it were poorly executed. But, for example, the idea of heroes with special abilities originated in the third game, and it doesn't work very well (it's not balanced). There are heroes that you're glad to have, and there are those that you pray don't show up. Although, any hero will do for the Fortress, it's more a matter of skill, but still;)
This, as they say, is just my newbie opinion:):D

Surprisingly, it's in the second and first games that the factions are balanced. Yes, black dragons and crusaders are very different, but thanks to the well-thought-out building costs and prices, and a certain dominance of strength over magic in the card sets, we get roughly equal total results in terms of days taken to complete the game when playing with all six factions. In the third game, there was a good idea – to make all the 1st, 2nd, etc. tier units the same. But it seems they came up with the units first, and then the "wait" mechanic and army speeds. Everything after that just became what it is. Let me give an example: a very good hero with about 300 upgraded hydras versus 4000 fiery dragons. It seems like there's nothing to worry about, but if we add 1 phoenix to the hydras, the result will be quite different. Show me who loves playing as the long-suffering Swamp faction? Why did they help the poor Necromancers? Why can there be a Gunner in the tavern, but also nothing at all. It's not just the factions that are unbalanced, but also the starting bonuses. And why did they add so many artifacts? They should, of course, add bonuses, but it's sacrilegious to scatter teapots all over the map.
This is the opinion of someone who has been playing the third game for about 10 years. I have the right to say that winning with 1 Archdevil against an entire army is somehow not very good, and not in the spirit of Heroes.
