Rezara Sanjore
– Regret has spread across our borders. Ugliness and destruction bare their fangs, hoping to take everything from us. Our cities, our achievements, our families, and our lives. But fear not, Lady Adata — I have fought monsters more than once or twice. As long as I can hold a blade in my hand, no creature will be able to harm either you or our glorious city! I swear it by the name of House Sanjore!
Rezara Sanjore, Knight of the Crimson Blade,
daughter of Sir Remar Sanjore, was born into a lineage of warriors and defenders of Sordgard. Her father devoted himself to fighting the monsters of regret and met his death in the crater wastes, though he still managed to raise his daughter. His grandfatherly methods of training did their work: at her young age, Rezara wielded with great skill a sword painted in the characteristic crimson hue of fresh blood. She struck down many monsters with the ruthlessness of a fury and has even managed to keep her dear head intact and unharmed to this day. Talent and unwavering devotion to Sordgard allowed Rezara to replace her fallen father at the throne of Lord Afortek Transend. The death of the valiant Sir Remar was a loss for the northern province, but alas, an inevitable one. Sordgard stood on the front line, right before the very face of the fierce hatred of the monsters of regret. Here, dying in battle was not a matter of probability for a warrior, but of time. A pale aristocratic girl might have seemed somewhat out of place among the stern ranks of Sordgard's warriors — but only until she drew her blade from its scabbard. A blade always stained with blood.
However, Rezara had no intention of throwing her life and soul entirely into the bloody cauldron. She loved dressing stylishly, took care of her appearance, maintained the image of a refined aristocrat with a blade in hand, and even fought in a distinctive manner. Her way with the sword incorporated several dance-like movements, but at its core remained the traditional technique of Sellaur — Rezara's hometown. Carving up an opponent with five elegant yet deadly strikes is the favored tactic of the Knight of the Crimson Blade.
Lord Afortek Transend commanded immense respect from Rezara. Even her valiant father paled beside his liege. Decades later, old and gray-haired, the guardian of Sordgard could still give any young yet already heroic warrior of Tezoth a run for their money. Rezara did not get to serve him long, for the lord gave serious thought to the question of succession and decided to earnestly undertake the upbringing of his three daughters. They bore little resemblance to their father — certainly less than Rezara resembled Remar — but each possessed their own merits. One upheld the cultural spirit of the province, another fostered trade, and the third... the third was a furry. Rezara was slightly afraid of her, though there was no obvious reason for it. Lady Nosi was precisely that warrior-daughter Afortek had been lacking.
Where else could Rezara go but to her
native Sellaur to aid Lady Adata? Especially since she had known Adata even before her appointment. And who wouldn't know such a striking personality... the two girls likely had much in common. In another life, Rezara would have preferred swinging a sword to boost her self-esteem while spending years studying the arts and collecting beautiful things — but fate decreed she be born with a searing hatred for the monsters of regret. As long as the crater stains the face of Tezoth with its ugliness, none of them shall know a single moment of peace!
– What a beautiful blade... almost like mine. We are all people, and as people we ought to shine. Perhaps I'll take this blade for myself.
Rezara had changed swords several times already. No matter how deadly and beautiful they were, the fangs of monsters snapped them like twigs. But each new blade received the name of the previous one and the same coloring. Such phantom immortality. A sword is an extension of the warrior. Without a sword or other weapon, you are nobody. Not a match for a cruel monster. Trust your blade as you trust yourself. If it breaks — so do you!
Despite all her love for Tezoth, Rezara primarily defended Sordgard. Her brothers and sisters of the province. What lay further south concerned her little. She understood neighboring Silverdan well enough — a fellow sufferer of monstrous misfortune — smiled at the cultural achievements of Estellia, admired the great culture of Tisia, despised the barbarians of the Zari tribes, and was mortally afraid of the inhabitants of Sithia. Why? She had never even encountered them... Caution, most likely. Dull-witted monsters are one thing; Sithia is quite another. Nothing good lay north of Sordgard. This selective patriotism prevented Rezara from truly embracing the philosophy of Kojmagism and tipped the scales toward the simple and clear
radiance of Velkhetra. The desire to be beautiful and bright burned in the blood of the Knight of the Crimson Blade.
– I could have been born in Estellia, but I was born here and immediately got a sword in my hands. That works too. If Sordgard falls, Estellia falls too. Everyone falls.
– Daughter, I think you underestimate the resilience of Tezoth...
– Maybe. But how can those behind compare to those ahead?
In her free time away from carving up monsters and carrying out Lady Adata's tasks, Rezara practices playing the lute. Her lute was carved and gifted to his daughter by Sir Remar Sanjore himself. The noble knight in his lifetime also did not disdain the arts and crafts. Especially after losing his wife early... creation is the best cure for boundless bitterness. For regret.
The year was 297... Rezara Sanjore, Knight of the Crimson Blade, served Lady Adata Transend faithfully in Sellaur...
