I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the author for this campaign.
To be honest, I wasn't familiar with this author or their work before, and I haven't played Heroes much in recent years, but this campaign was absolutely fantastic and evoked a lot of emotions. Almost everywhere, you can feel the immense amount of work that went into each map, and I was particularly impressed by the voice acting. It's hard to imagine how much code was written. Overall, I now consider Andrei_21 to be on par with Master and Redhavenhiro – my favorite authors.
As for the gameplay, I played on Veteran difficulty. The first mission was easy and went smoothly. The second mission also went well until the final boss. I reached him after completing the map, around the end of the second month, but I found that I couldn't defeat him with a direct attack (I was developing Sandro with skills in Darkness, Summoning, Education, Sorcery, and Attack). I decided not to spend months building up an army, so I used the console for the final boss.
The third mission also went well until the final boss. At the beginning, the mages and Necromancers caused a lot of trouble, but after defeating them, it seemed like the difficulties were over. However, after capturing the right-hand southern city of mages, a week later, "allied orcs" appeared, who only fought against me
. I defeated the two guardians without much trouble, but the final boss was again too strong, so I decided not to waste time and used the console. (In the end, I would rate this map the highest)
The fourth mission didn't cause any particular difficulties, although the mages were a major hindrance. Perhaps it was the most interesting of all the missions, but it's probably not because the fourth mission was so interesting, but rather because the others were so engaging
. I was able to complete this mission without using the console.
I was already a bit tired when I started the fifth mission, and when I saw the small, square map, I thought there would be several general battles. However, I kept getting defeated by the Fire Guardian, so I decided to finish the campaign quickly and simply added an army for all four elemental guardians, the angel, and Elrath (I confess, I might try to replay it without the console later). I was unexpectedly surprised by the map within a map
, which I quickly completed as well. Overall, it felt like the author was also getting tired by the fifth mission (mainly in the map design).
As for the places that seemed strange or didn't quite appeal to me, I would like to note the somewhat strange intonation in the voice acting of the cutscenes, although the presence of this voice acting is undoubtedly a plus that overshadows all its shortcomings. Also, there was a very interesting plot idea, but in some moments, its execution was weak. I mean that the plot is predictable at every turn, Sandro doesn't surprise with his cunning, there are no unexpected twists, and because of this, as it seemed to me, the character of Sandro wasn't fully revealed. And because of this passive plot, the secondary characters and their relationship with Sandro, apart from their unconditional loyalty, were not fully developed.
In conclusion, I can say that the campaign turned out to be excellent and has made it into my personal top list. In the future, I will definitely play it again. I also have plans to try the other two campaigns by Andrei_21. I wish the author creative inspiration, good luck, more free time, and to never give up. I will be looking forward to their next projects!
