Born in the Abyss ("Made in Abyss Movie 1: Tabidachi no Yoake"; "Made in Abyss Movie 2: Hourou Suru Tasogare")
I took a bit of a shortcut by deciding to watch the full-length movies instead of the series. But judging by the math, I haven't lost much screen time, and even someone knowledgeable only occasionally commented on what's missing, so... Okay.
It's an interesting piece, beautifully shot. It's funny that the main characters, like all children, are drawn worse and more cartoonishly compared to the adults, and the latter, in turn, are less detailed than the environment (landscapes).
Good synopsis, pleasant characters (both the main ones and most of the others encountered). Of course, in the first film, there were some somewhat naive moments, but over time, the movie becomes more serious.
I like that there isn't so much action, but a lot of time is devoted to various important everyday issues, and the way all this is emphasized makes you experience it and think about how you would act in such a dangerous and complex situation.
It's difficult to give a rating yet; I would like to see the third film, but in any case, I like it very much.

The Wind Rises ("Kaze Tachinu" 2013, Miyazaki)
I didn't watch it; I actually rewatched it. And I cried again, just as I did the first time I saw it...
Miyazaki usually likes mythological or fairytale themes, or stories about the future. This film is a noteworthy exception; it's more historical, dramatic, and quite realistic, although he did allow himself a small fantastical exaggeration, but presented it as vivid dreams. This film is about beauty, mutual help, conquering something new and unknown, love, and loss. And it's very much about life – you find some similarities and parallels; you want your life to be like the life of the main character, but at the same time, you don't want it, you're afraid of it.

Summer Wars (2009, Sama uozu) A pretty standard slice-of-life comedy with elements of action; I liked it. The girl is interesting, and the grandmother is the best. 8/10
